You don't need to play multiplayer to get all three endings. I didn't play it at all my first playthrough and I got all three choices.

I thought that everyone was done complaining about the ending so I didn't post this but since it's still the topic of conversation, here's a defense of it: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012...ect-3s-ending/

Finally finished today at 52 hours. I've been playing this game in a total information blackout so I had no idea that things were so contentious. Would I have preferred a more traditional ending? Yeah, but I find myself in agreement with most of what said in the article above.

The last 30 minutes doesn't ruin the rest of the game for me. When I think about the game, I will think about how extraordinary the first 51 hours and 30 minutes were.

I'll third that I planned on playing through with my femshep from me1 and making a new one starting with first game. That was a few weeks ago

I plan on playing through a few more times starting with ME1. I know the ending wasn't very good, but the actual game itself makes me want to replay it. Outside of 5-10 minutes out of 30 hours the game is amazing.

BioWare announces Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut

BioWare has announced the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a free download for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that addresses the controversial ending of the game.
It provides "additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes" to the ending, and launches this summer.

The Extended Cut is designed to give players "seeking further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3 deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes", BioWare said.

BioWare boss Ray Muzyka commented: "We are all incredibly proud of Mass Effect 3 and the work done by Casey Hudson and team.

"Since launch, we have had time to listen to the feedback from our most passionate fans and we are responding. With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc in the Mass Effect universe."

Executive producer Casey Hudson added: "We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player."

Interesting. I wonder if there will be playable sections or just more cut-scenes. Either way, I'm glad it's free.

Not taking into account literal game breaking bugs, this is about as big of a "mea culpa" as you're going to get from a big time publisher and developer.

Now we'll see if the actual content can get people to put away the pitchforks.

It was also a smart play to make the announcement before the PAX panel tomorrow.

I would've been pissed if they changed the ending, so I think this is good. As I've mentioned, I was disappointed by the ending, but certainly not to the extent that others were. I just wanted more closure, and if this delivers, then I'll be more than satisfied. Plus it's free, which I did not expect. We'll see. Summer seems far away though...

Very happy this is free and I'm pleased. I didn't hate the ending, but I was a lieel ticked about it. Now this should shore things up.

I plan on another play through with ME2/3 regardless.

The games are amazing. The ending was odd and felt off. For such a massive build up and the level of how involved and connected to a lot of the characters in the ME universe you become it was a let down.

But they really did not have much of a chance to make it great and make everyone happy. I think it was a very tall order to close this game out. What I really felt was is they left the door wide open for more Mass Effect games. There was no true closure IMO. So who knows.

The ending was meh. I was not enraged about it. It's a video game...you know?

Anyway, at least they are trying to expand upon the ending and help clarify what the heck happened.
