If you buy the indoctrination theory. And I do. Hell, it was going on the whole game. I don't think the little boy was ever real now. Go back to the very beginning of the game. Anderson is in the next room and doesn't seem like he hears Shepard trying to save a little boy. When the boy struggles to get into the shuttle, you would think the adults would help him into the shuttle, but they never even notice him. The nightmares about the boy. The manifestation of the boy in the Catalyst. It was Harbinger's attempt throughout the game to indoctrinate Shepard.

This is the theory I will go with. The game was tremendous. It will be played again along with ME2. I never played ME, but i can only imagine how cool the first one was as well.

This IMO was the best action/shooter/rpg series ever made. I personally understand some of the dissapointment with hardcore fans. A lot of hours and character builds were made and played. But some of the fanboism going on and the outrage the utube vids....I mean get a life people. It's a freaking video game! Get over it. I don't think Bioware had a chance to win regardless. It is the nature of todays society with the internet, message boards, facebook etc. It is too viral today.

It's a great series. Enjoy it. The ending was doomed to fail IMO. Because the game was over. The war was over. I felt I understood what happened to all my former comrades, companions etc. Most died fighting for the galaxy. What did everyone expect?

I feel that the ME1 story was the best out of the three and it was the most "RPG-like" of the 3 as well, though the combat was better in ME2/ME3 than ME1.. The ending in ME3 basically contradicts all of ME1 though. So if ME3's ending is supposed to be taken at face value, then the events of ME1 had no real purpose(well, that could go for ME2 as well actually). It's like the last 5 minutes was meant for another game

There is some truth that they would've had some people saying the ending was bad regardless, but the reality is this was one the worst endings I've ever seen. The lead up to it was great imo, but in the last 5 minutes the ending sank it into the toilet. It was overly cryptic, totally came out of left field, and felt very rushed. They tried to pull some M. Night Shyamalan crap at end, and go figure, it didn't work.

Anyway, I didn't actually care too much for ME1, it was ME2 that I really loved, and I'd say the same about 3, except for the ending.

The whole main plot of ME1 was Sovereign trying to access the citadel so he could bring his reaper buddies to the Milky Way galaxy from dark space. Normally he would just send a signal to the Citadel and the keepers would activate it. The Protheans that were at Ilos blocked that signal to help the organics of the next cycle.

so when it came time for Sovereign to signal the Citadel, there was no response, he spend thousands of year trying to gather allies to help take it on. The Rachni Wars I believe was his first attempt at this. that failed obviously. Then the events of ME1 eventually happened.

well if Catalyst was actually the citadel all along and is in control of the reapers all along, why the heck was Sovereign needed? The Catalyst could just activate himself and let the reapers in. Sovereign wouldn't be needed to "scout" the advanced Civilizations either, as it was made clear that the Citadel was always the center of the advanced civilizations now and in the past.

I was thinking indoctrination from the very first "dream" sequence. Agreed. The theory makes a lot of sense, but like you said I don't think it was Bioware's intention. If the theory was in fact their intention, I think they would have come out and announced it by this point. Which leaves the only explanation, that the endings are meant to be taken at face value and as such they are pretty bad to say the least. I think they missed a significant opportunity by not utilizing the theory's angle, it would have been a great plot device.

Bioware has already released a statement saying that they are not going to alter the ending. All thats getting released is a free dlc that "explains" the ending beter.

I know what Bioware said but do you believe them? They say a lot of things...

Also pretty bad is giving too much credit to the Bioware team. It's like they sat in a conference room for days thinking about how they could F this ending up and boom. They did it.

This is my favorite franchise to date. I've read all the books/comics, played all the games, even bought ME iPhone game. But this I can't accept. It's their game and they can choose to close how they feel but this is just unexcusable.

If not, I'm curious to see how Bioware explains this BS. How do you explain the entire Normady crew leaving battle? Crew mates teleporting from battle into that cut scene. Among a lot of other things.

But what else is dissapointing is the battle before the ending. In the 2nd one you had this crazy show down while you were assigning different teammates to do different things which was awesome. Here, you just pick two and everyone else relaxes in a show down for all life? I was hoping Jack and her crew would come in and provide a biotic shield while you were configuring the missiles. Something... but we get nothing. Perhaps they didn't want to repeat the same pattern but they should have IMO.

Oh, I completely agree. I thought the ending was terrible, and was being kind when I said pretty bad. Like you said the ending/suicide mission in Mass Effect 2 was great, which makes the ending in this game all that more disappointing.

But like I said, while the theory makes the ending make sense and would be significantly better than the ending at face value I just don't think that was Bioware intention or what they plan to do when the rest of ending content is released. I think we would have heard something by now if they were going with the theory or planned it all along.
