I do agree that RE6 graphics look a bit worse than RE5. Leon's level really shows the low textures quite a bit. Chris's level looks really good from a graphics stand point. Jake's level falls somewhere in-between the two. Having 3 different stories is cool from a longevity stand point making this a 24-30 hour campaign, but do wish it was just one protagonist all the way through. We won't know until next week how this all pans out. There is a review embargo till Monday for this. One review slipped out and they had to take it down, but the reviewer gave it a 4.5/10. I hope this is the last game in this story and that Capcom reboots the entire franchise.

Re: Resident Evil 6
I've honestly thought that as well. There are def some low res/poor textures if you look at the walls, boxes, etc. RE5 was a great looking game, and still looks great today... prob the better looking game based on the demo right now. I could have to do with some the things they added though, like flesh tearing away where zombies are shot. As much as I've loved the demo, I'm still waiting to read a few reviews.... The three campaign story thing worries me a little.Brand New Tomba Slider sets ready for Next Gen Versions of NBA,Madden and Fifa Stay Tuned...Comment

Re: Resident Evil 6
Just tried the demo out. I like Leon's campaign the best simply because it feels like RE but with modern controls. The only thing I don't like about it is how dark the environment is.
Chris and Jake's campaigns don't even feel like RE at all based on the demo. And if this Jake guy is like Wesker, you better give me all the moves!Comment

Game Informer Review 8.75
Over the years, the tone of the Resident Evil series has morphed from a George Romero horror flick to Michael Bay summer blockbuster. That metamorphosis into insane action is front and center in Resident Evil 6, and bringing a buddy along for the chaos is great fun. The game’s minor flaws don’t hold back the decadent experience from being an unhinged, flaming rollercoaster ride.Comment

Evolution and ambition are only natural for a franchise as old as Resident Evil, as is the need to respect a long-lasting legacy and the fans that have come to appreciate it. But in trying to serve all masters, Resident Evil 6 loses focus and fails to accurately assess which of its elements are truly worthy of being included. When this game is at its height, it sets new standards for the series in every way. Unfortunately, there are no shortage of lows either, taking what could have been an excellent experience and making it something considerably lesser.
The game represents a tremendous amount of effort and investment and, for those impressed by such things, Resident Evil 6 may delight. But all the effort in the world won't make up for a lack of vision. This game is blind to imagination and focus. Capcom's uncertainty about the series' identity post-Mikami (and post-Uncharted) is hardcoded into its structure: four campaigns offering different, flawed expressions of that potential. And the inevitable price for this wavering is a lack of coherence. Resident Evil 6 is an unwieldy tribute to the series' past, an uneven expression of its present and an unwelcome indication of its future.
Resident Evil 6 is a shape-shifter. It’s an oversized behemoth. It’s a franchise-diminishing disappointment. More than anything, Resident Evil 6 is a compromise – a desperate, ugly bid to appeal to as many people as possible.
The Good
Intriguing narrative structure
Great voice acting and action-packed cutscenes draw you into the story.
The Bad
Loads of bad, overlong quick-time events
Excruciating overemphasis on mediocre set piece events
Ruins the pace by constantly ripping control from you
Poorly executed scripted events lead to unavoidable deaths. But how far can cinematics get you when the gameplay sandwiched between them is so poorly paced, so utterly misconceived, so reliant on stick wriggles and button tapping? There's a place for contextual prompts and cinematic storytelling in video games, but Resident Evil 6 is a mishmash of elements put together without any sense of care or direction. Series faithful might stumble through for the sake of story, and perhaps to appreciate those few moments that recall when Resident Evil was at its peak glory. But this long, poor sequel is the ultimate test of patience for even the most dedicated.
It's bad enough that the game -- at its very best -- is so pedestrian, but to screw up in areas that even third-rate shooters manage to get right is something Capcom should find degrading. It's not enough to say that Resident Evil 6 is poor as a Resident Evil game. That alone implies there could be a quality experience if fans can get past their preconceptions and feelings of betrayal. No, Resident Evil 6 is poor by the standards of any game, not just the high ones set by its own legacy. This is unexceptional tripe that becomes insulting once the woeful missteps come into play. Resident Evil 6 is not just a step back for the series, it's a step back for common garden, unassuming action-shooters.
If any consistently good thing can be said of Resident Evil 6, it's that it has made Paul W.S. Anderson's film adaptations look like fine works of art in comparison.
It’s a bloated, often incoherent game, but the most frustrating thing about Resident Evil 6 is that (Chris’s focus on cover shooting aside) it’s not an unimaginative one. It might feel padded at times, but Capcom always has something new to show you after the filler, such as a fresh campaign, another repellent boss form, a surprising enemy type, a co-op vehicle section, or an odd location to explore. Even replaying a chapter from the perspective of your teammate will offer a tweaked weapon set and slightly altered routes. In always trying to offer something more, Resident Evil 6 fails to refine what it has already given you. And whatever else you might say about the game, it achieves something that its predecessor never did: it steps out of Resident Evil 4’s shadow and becomes its own game. Sadly, it’s a game that redefines the series as a loose collection of action scenarios with a shared theme of mild sci-fi horror. It’s a game so eager to please that can’t settle on an identity. And it’s a game that marks a critical point in the series’ history. Resident Evil might have lost interest in pure horror a while back, but it seems Capcom would rather you were thrilled than afraid.
Anyway, save your RE6 money for one of next week's games. I played a couple of those and am pretty excited about them!Last edited by Flawless; 10-01-2012, 10:15 AM.Go Noles!!! >>----->Comment

Re: Resident Evil 6
And... preorder cancelled... I'll wait for this to go on sale. All they needed to do was build off of 4, even 5, and slow things down a bit.
My joy was starting to waver after more demo time, but now it's pretty much gone.

My friend wanted me to get this so we could do co-op, but with AC coming at the end of the month and lackluster impressions I'm gonna try and hold off from peer pressure.

What's sad is the 3DS version was fantastic. It went back to it's roots and was slow paced and scary.
Oh well I guess.Comment

Re: Resident Evil 6
Here's my own spin of the "back in my day" old-timer stories...
I remember playing the original Resident Evil games on Playstation1 growing up and falling in love with them. I was already a fan of horror movies, and Resident Evil making horror games more mainstream was awesome to me. I remember many nights sitting up in the dark, all the lights off, volume cranked, walking around the abandoned police station in RE2 and knowing for a fact I wasn't sleeping that night.
What made those old games so great wasn't the action. It was the atmosphere, the story. It was the creaking of the floors in the distance, the echoing moans, and the drifting footsteps. It was opening an old wooden door and not knowing whether a licker, a horde of zombies, or a typewriter to finally save your progress would be behind it. It was walking down a hallway and a bird crashing through a window and forcing you to press pause and change your drawers. The action was clunky and frustrating sometimes, but the games weren't about the action. They were about the mood. And that's what made them classics. It's the same reason I still enjoy games like Silent Hill and Alan Wake.
I understand from a business perspective why Capcom would want to reach a broader audience with more action-oriented gameplay. Shooting games are guaranteed hits nowadays. And they're trying to make money.
But while playing the demo (particularly Chris and Wesker Jr's) I couldn't help but miss those old days with the original Resident Evil games and the dread that's completely missing from this demo. Having an AI partner, blasting away at 50 "altered soldiers" in broad daylight just doesn't pack the same punch as being alone in a mansion with only a few lights guiding your way.
Unfortunately, I don't think Resident Evil will ever get back to where it was. And for gamers that love the more action-oriented versions, that's awesome. I just miss the atmosphere. The chills. The guy saying "Resident Evil" with a loud boom when you hit start and knowing s*** was about to get real. To me, that will ALWAYS be what Resident Evil is about.Comment
