Maybe it was my imagination, but I could have sworn that they would just keep firing until they hit me, and then once they did it would just stop, whether they had shot 5 or 25. But yeah, I spent probably 4 or 5 hours on that guy and I was only playing on normal.

I'll still probably buy or at least play the next one though, but at times I did feel lost having not played the first.

BTW, I really don't like Geralt. I wish Letho was the main character, he's bad-***.
I will say the Yrden thing was a bit tricky on that guy. It seemed like you could only trap him if he was in the middle of an attack and it didn't work every-time. I was able to trap him a couple of times in the middle of an attack though and was able to wail on him. I think I had the best sword and armor up until that point, so that probably helped.

To each as their own as far as Geralt, I liked him. Obviously he was a bit wooden, but it seemed like that was exactly what they were going for and fits in with the way Witchers typically conduct themselves. From what I gathered a witcher is supposed to be largely neutral on most issues, and Geralt seemed to adhere to that. Letho while he was cunning and a bad *** in some ways, didn't seem to understand that/follow that path and was only interested in advancing his own interests. Not sure what you decided to do at the end of the game, but I had no problem

I remember that fight vaguely when I played it on the PC. I was rolling around like a mad man used Quen everytime I could (shield), I did fast sword strikes and used hit and run tactics. Hit him rolled away from him and kept dodging until the next opportunity arose to roll in and get a sword strike on him. I used Igni as well. As far as potions, I made sure to have swallow in me and I can't remember what else.

Re: The Witcher 2 (PC) (360 soon)

My main problem I think was that I didn't prepare because it kind of came right out of nowhere, and I didn't feel like going all the way back to a save where I could prepare.

But I couldn't get Yrden to work too well. It worked on occasion, but the amount of times I'd get hit by those damn fireballs would knock my health down too fast to be able to survive long enough to get him. I got lucky one attempt and finally beat him though, so it's all good, just took longer than I had wanted.

I didn't really have problems with any other fight/quest in the game though, other than it just taking me super long to kill Saskia, though I did on my first attempt.

Amalur and Skyrim, have turned me into Rocky Balboa at the beginning of Rocky 3, where he's been fighting all these tomato cans, and is too soft to handle Clubber Lang when the time comes. I'm not really enjoying how the game animates and controls during combat still, but I like the challenge and the need for strategy.

I'm starting Chapter Two now, never thought I'd see the day where another Western fantasy RPG developer would be better than Bioware in terms of story, characters, and dialogue. Although I do love the Dragon Age games, I feel like despite the MA rating, the series is written, as if high school aged kids are who they expect will be primarily playing the game. CD Projekt RED does no such thing.

Restarted this after trying to learn on the fly and being totally lost but after skimming through the Strategy Guide I am better prepared and this game is just awesome. My combat and preparation before combat is so much better now that I have a grasp on what I need/should be doing

Totally fixed the things I didn't like about the first one. So many characters though that I must have spent a few hours just on the journal page. Will definitely play again.

Just played through the prologue the past two nights. Incredible. I couldn't put the game down. I love great story telling in games and this one has it with some good dialogue and interesting characters.

I bought this through Steam about nine months ago but decided to play through the original Witcher first and just started The Witcher 2 now. I'm glad I played the original (and imported the save game) because it helps you understand the characters.

Re: The Witcher 2 (PC) (360 soon)

I'm waiting on my copy of Dead Space 3 to arrive and I plugged Witcher 2 in to kill some time. I can't remember if I couldn't just get into it or what, but I only played through Act 1 and then stopped.

We'll, I just played through almost the entire game tonight (just finished Act II and a large part of III) and can honestly say that putting this game down was a huge mistake. I almost wish I had gone back from the beginning because now that I have the combat down I would have loved to do some more sidequests. The game is incredible.

My only issue is that the game doesn't look so great on the 360, which is a little weird given that it's a pretty linear environment for a RPG. Outside of that, the story, dialogue, and combat (which took a lot of time getting used to) are top notch IMO.

Just beat the game. Holy crap, what was I thinking when I stopped playing the game in the first place? I've heard about 16 different endings, so I'm thinking I'm going to go back and play the game again.

                      Worth it?

Depending on whether you choose to ally with Iorveth or Roche there are a handful of new quests that you will get to playthrough on the other side of things. Some of the quests overlap for both paths, but each path has some unique quests. You will also learn more story information about events and other characters by playing through the other path as well. Not to mention there are weapons and armor specific to each path that can be found. So definatly playing through the two paths offers some new experiences and is worth it.

Well, it sounds like I'm definitely going to have to go back and play it again. A couple more questions:

I played the game on normal and had a really rough time, and am ashamed to say I lowered it to casual a couple of times. Is trying to beat it on hard an impossible task? I struggled a lot (even when I'd switch to casual) to kill my enemies. More often than not, it took a minute + of slashing just to kill them. I stayed away from tips and walkthroughs, so maybe I missed something on how to kill fast, but it seemed pretty tough as it is.

Armor never played a huge role for me, but again, that may have been because of the difficulty. I would survive forever, but it also took me forever to kill. Any specific armor sets I should chase down?

While, I assume you already knew this, but just in case make sure your using Silver Swords on monsters and steel swords on human enemies. That right there makes a big difference in how fast enemies go down. I beat it on hard and found it to be manageable. You have to make sure to use your powers to their full advantage and use all the tools at your disposal(bombs, etc.). if you want to beat it on hard, though. Stunning enemies with your powers is very helpful, since it allows you to use finishers. There is actually a skill the swordmanship tre, that allows you to perform group finishers. Also on hard it definatly helps to find the best armors and swords available in the game. Can't remember off hand what the best ones were though.

Also your skill build makes a big difference. Some of the skills are kind of useless to be honest. Also make sure your using mostly fire and damage type ruins for your swords since those produce the highest damage potential, and that the your using the enhancements for your armor that provide the most defensive advanatages. Mutagens also pretty big as well, try to hold out for the greater type mutagens before applying mutagens in the skill tree. There is a skill in the alchemy tree, that gives mutagens are certain chance of being produced when you make potions, make sure to get at least 1 or 2 points in that.

Anyways here is a skill build guide I found to be helpful. Tells you the best skills to invest in given your playstyle :

Also here is guide showing the unique swords and armors in the game:

I'm finishing up my second play through doing Iorveth's side and it's amazing how different it is. It's like CD Projekt made 2 sequels to The Witcher and included them in one game.

                                REDkit mod tools officially released.

CD Projekt RED have now officially released The Witcher 2′s mod tool, REDKit. It’s a powerful looking suite, giving you the opportunity to design quests, build lands, create NPCs, customise combat and “plant realistic forests in just a few clicks.” That last one is probably the limit of what I’d be able to achieve.

In addition to the creation tools, the corresponding 3.4 patch for The Witcher 2 has been released. Called REDKit (Gamer’s Edition), it adds a mod manager into the game, letting you sample the community’s creations. Once the community have actually made some.
