Trying to finish this up so I can trade it in when I pickup Dragon's Dogma in a couple weeks. It's good and definitely worth playing, just not as awesome as I was hoping/anticipating. I think I've just been spoiled by the wealth of great RPGs recently (DS, ME3, Skyrim, etc.). I will say that I have enjoyed this game a whole lot more than Amalur. I just couldn't get into that one at all (got 12 hours in max).
In the original edition Chapter 3 was much shorter. The EE supposedly added more content in Chapter 3, but I would assume it is still shorter than 1 and 2.

      Kinda weird feeling to it.

On one hand, the game had a great Visceral feel to it, and on the other hand the Combat and RPG choices really felt underwhelming to me.

The story, which many people have praised, kinda feel flat to me. A lot of the time I was just like "What? ANother King is pissed and his sorceress is crazy?????"

It had a lot going on and I just never really got into it. ME Series Still blows this away.

The choices are pretty good and feel like they have weight, but only a few of them. A lot seem like filler Convo choices that do nothing.

They really need to work on Combat and making the PRG choices feel more meaningful in the next one, which I trust they will do.
Just curious what exactly did you find underwhelming about the combat? I think the game gives you alot of tools as far as combat goes (signs, bombs, potions, oils and obviously sword play) and I am finding the gameplay to be pretty good if you use all the tools at your disposal. I am also playing on hard and find it refreshing that I have to play smart or I will be punished. I also like the realistic manner, in which you have to drink potions prior to combat. Some people may not like it, but it encourages preparation and drinking potions in the middle of battle tends to make other games too easy( I am looking at you Skyrim).

As far as the story it really helps if you look up the basic plot outline of the first and the read the journal in this one, to get some of the additional back-story. The visceral/brutal feel is exactly why I enjoy the story so much in this game, as well as the fact that the devs had the guts to touch on themes that are typically avoided by others. Not to mention the fact that many decisions and storyline aspects are shades of grey, instead of the typically black and white you see in most games.

To each their own I guess, this really isn't a game that everyone will enjoy. To me, as somebody who enjoyed Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, I find this game to be just as good in it's own right. I defiantly don't agree that Mass Effect blows it away, in any aspect . They are obviously different types of games, but I feel they both accomplished what they wanted to, for the most part.

I have a couple main missions left on the path I chose, and than plan to play through on the other path as well. Basically a completely new 2nd act, is worth playing through on the other path.

This post is SO ON POINT. This game is amazing and I'm shocked that so many passed/slept on this game. They missed out on a good one here

I think it is probably due to the fact that it is the second game in the series, and that might scare some people off who think the story might not make sense without playing the first. That really isn't the case though, and reading a simple plot outline for the first and the journal in this one provides almost all of the additional back-story needed, since the overarching plot is largely self-contained and can stand on it's own. I would think that is the primary reason though, along with the fact the game doesn't necessarily hold your hand, which may scare some console gamers off.

Also to point out the obvious the game really doesn't have any mainstream marketing (commercials, etc.). I think alot of casual type console players may not even know the game exists. I do wonder how the game is doing sales wise on the 360. The devs certainly deserve the revenue for bringing a great PC game to the 360, largely intact (not to mention adding additional content).

So I finished this up (on one path at least),and as you can tell from my other posts I thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably my favorite RPG. I enjoyed every aspect of it and will jump right into playing the other path to see the other side of Chapter 2.

The only gripes that I can think is the one small part of Chapter 2, at the end, where you
              Spoiler
. That part didn't last very long, so it wasn't a big deal though. Also there were a couple of boss fights where Geralt started with his sword not drawn and standing still, which made it hard to not get hit initially. Those are basically the only minor nitpicks I can think.

This game doesn't seem be getting a lot of love/attention here, but any RPG fan owes it to themselves to try this game. It is not a game for everyone, but to me this game is every bit as good (if not better) in comparison to the other top RPG's out there.

Dragon Age 1 and 2, Skyrim, and Amalur made me forget what it was like to have pay attention and use strategy, combat wise, for anything other than bosses, in a fantasy RPG. It's taken me a few hours, but I'm finally starting to get the hang of it.

The dialogue, plot and characters are top shelf so far.

Agree about the last 3, but I felt like DA:O required a ton of strategy for the combat. If you ran around aimlessly in that game and didn't pause and queue up attacks you would die in normal fights fairly easily.

This game is pretty tough though when you first start out. There comes a point in the later half of the game where the combat becomes fairly easy just because of all the upgrades you have given Geralt. Leveling Quen up to level 3 makes you a tank.

Finished this up today. It was pretty good, but I don't really have any desire to play through it again.

That boss fight near the end of act 2 was really ticking me off.

Also the fact that 1/3 attempts to dodge resulted in my witcher-sense thing going off making him stand still and get demolished by the attack I was trying to dodge was uber-annoying.

Not sure if you used it or not, but Yrden helped quite a bit against him. Basically what I did is threw down Yrden to trap him, and than used Quen when the fireballs were being thrown. Also, if you positioned yourself behind an object the fireballs generally wouldn't hit you. Took three tries on Hard using that method. I will say the end of Ch.2 was the least favorite part of the game for me though, but I found the boss manageable enough.

Chapter 2 does change completely (new quests, new story/dialogue, new weapons/armor) on the other path. I'm am sure you know that, but Chapter 2 does offer a completely new experience on the other path. From what I understand, there are some interesting story bit/plot-points that are missed if you only play through one path. I actually saved right before making the decision, so that I could back and start right at the beginning of Ch.2 on the other path.

Generally, with most conversations the top one moves the conversation to the next stage/point. If you want additional info/backstory you should go through all the ones below the top option first.

LOL... after 5 or so tries I read the guide and did exactly what it said. It didn't help. I hid behind stuff and one would land directly on top of me. The only times I could avoid them was when I was rolling around like a madman out in the open. Maybe it was my imagination, but I could have sworn that they would just keep firing until they hit me, and then once they did it would just stop, whether they had shot 5 or 25. But yeah, I spent probably 4 or 5 hours on that guy and I was only playing on normal.

I'll still probably buy or at least play the next one though, but at times I did feel lost having not played the first.

BTW, I really don't like Geralt. I wish Letho was the main character, he's bad-***.
