EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure. -
Re: Hitman: Absolution
I don't know if it's been patched yet (as in it was included with the download or it's coming later today) but much like the folks at PC gamer I'm having quite a few performance issues on PC,even on medium. I could see maybe having issues on ultra but there's no reason there should be any on medium or even high. I also have a better card than a 4800 the PC gamer guys reviewed it on so I'm not sure what the problem could be. If no one is around it's just fine on ultra but the second a leaf blows on to the screen everything goes to hell. It looked like it was going to entirely crash just opening a door on high. Maybe if I close the background programs or I could need a driver update.
They did the awful FMV thing again like DXHR...
FMV:
In game maxed:
If it looks better in game use the in game engine.
Also after it's unpacked it's bigger than a blu-ray disc. So watch out for the 360 version I guess. Might want to wait for some impressions and stuff.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
Game still looks like *** with all that bloom, turning DOF all the way down helps with the dense fog effect, still would like to dial back (or all the way down) on the bloom.
No crash problems here, 306.97 and a 670, but it still runs more sluggish than it should. It did already download a patch.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
Right away there's a big problem with what you're actually doing not being defined. I don't really think this is a spoiler but I'll put it in one anyway.
SpoilerAs everyone knows in the first mission your target is Diana. The goal of getting into the place was quite clear and easily acomplished. Once in there is where the problems started. You listen in on guard meeting, they say she's taking a shower upstairs.
So logically you go upstairs and find a way to kill her. I go upstairs, into the bathroom and...there's no shower. Oooooooooooooook I guess it's one of the other rooms here? Nope. I grabbed some sleeping pills from the bathroom.
Start looking downstairs. No.
There is however a kitchen downstairs and in the great Hitman tradition I put the sleeping pills in the food assuming I could just wait around until it was brought up to her,it'd be an OD and I walk out the front gate back into the ice cream truck. Not quite the exploding burgers trick from Bloodmoney but hey it's only the first level.
This was an incorrect move. The chef tasted the food and stumbled over to a chair. I was punished with a -500 score for a pacification. That's terrible. So now I'm thinking take the chef outfit and deliver the food myself perhaps with a gun under the lid, kinda like the roses hiding the shotgun in that hotel level in Contracts. I couldn't find anywhere to ditch the chef so didn't go through with it. Which is good because that would've been wrong too.
At this point I found my target is NOT Diana but the head of security.
Previously having heard guard chatter that he loves his coffee I put the sleeping pills in the coffee. Went upstairs again to make sure there was no way to Diana. I opened up some blinds and at some point the security man took his coffee and stumbled into the room next to the chef.
The whole point of this was to acquire a keycard.
Going upstairs and using the keycard resulted in another tremendously huge performance drop and then...a cutscene.
Following the cutscene my disguise was gone and was given a tutorial on the point shooting. Which I was not punished for. So I finished -500 off my total score and end up with a Professional ranking instead of a SA because I put pills in food I thought was going to Diana but the chef ate and it turned out it wasn't my job to assassinate Diana at all but get a keycard to open a door to get a cutscene.
Hopefully things will be indicated better in the future. Also at the start of the 2nd level the guy flatout tells you your target has a car around. I like finding that stuff for myself.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
From tutorial mission:
SpoilerThey tell you you need to get a key card from the head guard after you turn off the security system, IIRC. You go in the window, go through the door, it tells you to turn off security system, then it says to get the keycard off the head of security.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
The MXAA was the problem. You can't change it in game, that's why it wasn't making a difference even on medium.
I played the first level again. I didn't get the message about the keycard because of when it dropped to 0.5 fps after opening the door, got it that time. You can't get a SA on the tutorial level so don't even try. I did it on professional, did everything perfect and didn't get it. It was shockingly easy to get on the next level. I even killed a non-target and still got it but not on professional.
Professional difficulty is pretty broken. Disguises might as well be useless. You can just be standing there, they'll spot you a mile away from another room and that's it. You don't even have to do anything suspicous, just be there and if they see you at all,no matter how far away they'll get suspicous and come over. I guess the only difference would be they open fire on sight if you don't have a disguise.
I am having a minor glitch using a 360 controller where the weapon select isn't going away at the start of a new level. It displays I have no weapons and sticks on there. I have to hit left to bring up my guns and then holster them.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
Preordered this game and it's shipped, think it's supposed to be here today. Really looking forward to playing it because even if the reviews aren't out of this world for it, my excitement is.Last edited by Valdarez; 11-20-2012, 08:17 PM.Comment

Re: Hitman: Absolution
Pretty good review here. I've always liked Game Revolution for reviews.. they have a little humor and seem to be pretty honest.
