Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
A glut of games
Not only that, but the accelerating rate at which new games are released cannibalizes existing games and further distracts the already inundated player.
"In the last two decades the growth of video games has produced a huge influx of games," Fuller says. "There are more players today, but there are also more games per player. Since you can't spend as much time on each game, you're less likely to finish the one in front of you."
I've bought...23...games this year and have finished 4,even if I really liked it.
L.A. Noire and Crysis,Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2. Even then I waited on the DX11 patch to finish Crysis 2. Currently waiting on the NCAA 12 patch to finish that and Catherine would be finished but I've been sick for a week. EDF: IA isn't even open. I've also yet to finish the DLC for Mafia II,Mass Effect 2,Alan Wake or even buy it yet for Enslaved (which I did finish but was bought last year). Also have 4 XBLA trials sitting on my 360 waiting to be bought.Comment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
Fun Topic. I am the worse @ not finishing games. Red Dead, GTA, LA Noire etc. I think the problem is I take too much time exploring the game. The only game I've completed this year was Mass Effect & that's because I triggered the final mission w/out knowing it. I forced myself to finish Assassin Creed last year before I turned it in. Sport games are the same way except for MLB Show. Still play the 09 version. I've learned hard way to buy DLC's after I finish the game lolFollow me on http://twitter.com/Alligator_BloodComment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
Its rare that I won't finish games that are finishable (is that a word? haha). If I don't finish it, its because it sucked really hard but that rare because I buy the top games months after its been released. Like the article says, there are too many games sometimes to keep up with so I'll get to them when I get to them."In a year that has been so improbable, the impossible has happened." - Vin Scully

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
For me, it varies by genre:
Sports: Never. Not that I really think it's possible to "finish" a sports game outside of career-type modes...
Action/Shooter: As long as I'm able to make it to the end - I find these to be the most challenging games I play.
Western RPG (Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, etc.): Not as often as I'd like. Usually I get too much into sidequesting and forget about the main plot.
Eastern RPG/JRPG: Highest finishing rate of all of them, usually because the stories are so engrossing - the only way I don't finish a JRPG is if I don't like the game.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
Usually. I rented Black Ops from RedBox a couple weeks ago and beat the story in a couple days, never bothered trying online.Comment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
I finish about 90% of the games I buy.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I beat the single player campaign on all my games where it's possible. It may take longer on some games then others but I will get around to it.

Here's the very small list of games I've finished this generation:
Mass Effect (3 times)
Mass Effect 2 (2 times)
Batman: AA
Dragon Age: Origins
Gears of War
Games I Wish I Could Finish:
Red Dead Redemption
Borderlands
Oblivion
Fallout 3
One could say that I finished Oblivion, though, because I completed everything BUT the main storyline (which is lackluster IMO).
I just bought Just Cause 2 and it's pretty sweet, but I know without a doubt that I won't be able to finish before I lose interest. I can never finish big open world games like GTA4, RDR, etc.
Basically, a game has to be one of the best I've ever played to keep me interested for long enough to finish. Ones with extremely short story campaigns (read: shooters) I usually only play online so I never finish them.
Great thread topic, BTW.Comment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
Well I'm a 15th prestige level 50 in Black Ops does that count?
I did also beat the single player. Beat MW as well. Never finished World at War or Modern Warfare 2.
Finished MGS4 and Assassins Creed. Have not finished Infamous. Have had Batman AA for almost two years and still haven't opened it.Comment

Re: Do You Finish Your Video Games?
I'm kind of all over the place and it has little to do with what I think of a game. I have a slew of unfinished games that I want to wrap up, but then games that I've already finished (like an Oblivion) will call me back over and over.
I'm a franchise player in my sports games and often get hyped about a good real game that leads me to sticking to that given sport for a while. Further, if there's a sequel or a really hyped game that is due to come out, it usually makes me want to replay the current one or one of a similar genre, so that can also further my backlog.
I guess I have video game ADD in a sense.Comment

The only games I don't finish are GTA games. I can't stand all that driving around.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment
