Re: Biggest Disappointment of This Year?

NBA 2K12. I've never been so frustrated playing a game before. Between the mirrored defense, automatic makes when the shot clock is winding down, 6'10"+ centers and PFs getting blocked by guards and more, this game is driving me nuts. I've refrained from throwing my controller but it's almost been smashed multiple times in frustration.

Homefront was a case of a fantastic idea executed so poorly. The game was junk. The server issues, the "beacon" issue - all of it was complete trash. Such a horrible game that I wish I never bought. The online part of the game was good, when it worked. Too bad you couldn't use full groups though like it advertised.

Through all this though, 2K12 is definitely my biggest disappointment. I had such high expectations for this game and I can't even make it through a game because I get so pissed.

I'm going with NCAA 12, Brink & Homefront. I'm still a little upset at NCAA 12, 11 was so good. All they had to was tweak a couple of things.

Glad I skipped out on LA Noire.

            LA Noire.

Loved it - absolutely loved it, one of my favorite games ever - through the first two parts. Then I didn't even finish it. Still haven't and don't know if I ever will.

For me its Dragon Age 2. Still has its redeeming parts with a solid cast of characters and a combat system that I liked, but the whole game just felt lacking compared to Origins.
Brink, yes. I loved Team Fortress 2, but the lag and connection issues sucked. I thought Brink would be kind of like TF2 (awesome fun) but it just sucked.

Homefront, I bought out of wanting a new game and realized it sucked, then boom a blockbuster came out and I got rid of it.

I actually like LA Noire - IT"S biggest problem was the integration of the side missions and lake of options in general. Sure you can choose between a few places to go (sometimes),...but it was annoying traversing great distances in the game AND there could have been more things to do like buying things etc.

PLUS the side missions didn't work - the game gives you a sense of urgency to get to certain crime scenes or suspect houses, but then radio's side missions which at first appear to be urgent ...problem is they are a nuisance because they are much of the time all the way across the map and make the player feel as though they may interfere with the important cases.

same problem in GTA4 which I thought was hollow...you go all the way to the bronx to do a mission and all of a sudden Brucie wants to hang out in Brooklyn ... like eff off!

still having said that, I finished it, had some fun, and sold it.

What were all you people saying L.A. Noire expecting? GTA in 40's L.A.? Still the best game this year IMO. That'll probably last another 3 weeks but still 2nd isn't bad.

It's lack of depth completely killed it for me. Wasn't too disappointed though, I had fun with it.

Brink would be the biggest disappointment for me.

I change my answer. The biggest disappointment is in my wallet. I don't have enough money or time to play all these great games.

I was expecting a game that didn't have completely wasted story threads (homicide), and an unnecessary final act.

It was good up until about 75% of the way in, but I really lost interest after homicide. Plus, the side crimes were really poorly implemented, and realizing you literally couldn't fail at the investigations pretty much killed it for me. There were also huge presentational/pacing problems with the cutscenes, as some of them felt really rushed and disconnected.

I honestly thought it would be GOTY. That's why I was disappointed with it. It had some really good ideas (the investigating mechanics were good, as were the interrogation mechanics), and it looked and sounded wonderful (that soundtrack!), but there were major issues with the narrative. Considering it's a narrative-driven game, failing at the narrative makes the game a failure (cough cough heavy rain cough cough).

Hell of a good answer. I do agree.

Also, I did like LA Noire. Once the awe of the facial animations wore off, it lost some of its luster, but I still thought it was a solid game. I certainly wasn't disappointed by it.

Another vote for Brink. I was extremely excited for it until I read the reviews and found out that it was just a collection of multiplayer maps where a story should have been, and it wasn't even good at the multiplayer part.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

I don't really have a game that I can think back and say that it disappointed me, but the closest thing to that had to be L.A. Noire. That ending to that game was TERRIBLE.
