1. Shogun Total War 2 - Best total war game I have ever played. Part of this is because of my fascination with Japanese history and architecture (castles), but the game is just so solid

2. Skyrim - Pretty straight forward. An awesome game with plenty to do.

3. The Show - Another great installment. I played it a ton

4. Socom 4 - Loved the single player, I never got into the MP too much. The MP felt so different from old socom games, I just couldn't get into it

5. NHL - This gets the top 5 because other than the above 4 the only other games I have bought this year are NHL/NCAA/Madden. I was very underwhelmed with the ladder 2, and while I really enjoyed NHL it had a number of bugs that eventually killed the game for me.

Looks like alot of love for Skyrim. Maybe I should take the plunge. I should probaly wait until the Spring when I have nothing else to play and can really get into it.

What was really interesting to me going through the 4 pages of this thread on Operation Sports is that only a couple guys had a sports game (the Show) on the top of their list. I'd like to say it's because there are so amny great non sports games out there but I believe it has more to do with the main stream sports franchises becoming very, very stale.

I also get the impression that there were a lot of issues with bugs and glitches in the sports titles this year. NHL had a major freezing issue that I became painfully aware of after a few games.

It's interesting to see how many people put LA Noire on their list. A ton of people cited LA Noire as the most disappointing game of 2011 in that thread.

I find it hard to do a top five list since I play so many older games. I loved Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Alan Wake and Mass Effect 2 and spent a ton of time on them this year but because they came out last year I guess they don't qualify.

So here's my top five

1. Skyrim. I would have paid double the price.
2. Unchartered 2
3. LA Noire
4. Football Manager (Itouch).
5. The Show

I haven't played any of the Batman games. I'm probably missing out.

La noire could have been amazing, it just got repetitive after a while kinda like the first assassins creed.

Other then Skyrim and possibly Battlefield 3, I don't really see anything else coming into play. I spent most of the Summer getting "acquainted" with Mass Effect 1 & 2.

If I added older games, Mass Effect 1 & 2 would be added into the list in the 2 & 3 spots. Zelda and AC: Revalations (which are games I have yet to play through) could possibly jump onto this list by the end of the year. I also need to play Gears 3.

I just realized how many games I've played this year.
