    Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Finshed Normal/Ironman this weekend. A little disappointed with the last mission...

    Spoiler

Anyways, time to take what I learned and see if I can have a better run at Classic/Ironman now.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. The PC version is on sale through gamefly. It's only 24.99. I'm picking it up.

Oh, and if you are skeptical about using Gamefly for your digital download service, you don't have to use them. After you purchase XCOM, they will email you a key. You can then input the key into Steam and it becomes a Steam game. It's a great deal. I'm downloading now. I can't wait to play.

This has been a great game so far. I got an A on my first report card and I was actually proud of myself. lol I think this is one of the most satisfying games I can remember.

Add me to the very long list of those new to this game that absolutely love it. I keep saying 'one more mission' but I just can't put it down. Amazing game.

              +1.

I'm on my second play through after getting my *** handed to me in my first game. Playing more carefully and trying not to get my guys killed. I named my soldiers after Metal Gear Solid characters, so far I have Big Boss (heavy), Sniper Wolf (sniper), Para-Medic (support), Otacon (support), The End (sniper), and myself (assault). Planning on creating Revolver Ocelot and using pistols and naming the SHIV after MK II.

On my next play through I plan on using characters from The Walking Dead. So much fun and nerve wracking at the same time. I even bought the Elite Soldier pack so I can get more customization options.

EDIT: **** I got too careless and ended up with a casualty. RIP Sniper Wolf..

Getting back into this Friday night. I am 60% through and am looking to finish off my first play through (on Normal non-Ironman) and eventually start up a normal Iron Man play through.

This game is amazing. And it is one of the harder games I have played in quite some time (I have stayed away from Demon Souls and Dark Souls....but will get around to those one of these days lol).

I was in the middle of my Madden playoffs with a bunch of friends and I was getting reading for a huge showdown. Instead of practicing I was playing X-com.

On Monday I set my alarm for an hour early so I could play an important mission before my kids woke up. Argentina was about to be lost and I had to do a mission marked "Very Difficult" to save them. Not very many games are this addicting.

P.S. I won my Madden Super Bowl anyway

You know what was fun? Playing on the hardest difficulty with the soldiers being names of people you don't like. It was never so rewarding to have a Chrysalid eat and transform my soldiers!

We need to get another match in.

Hell any 360 guys wanna do a little tourney bracket style? Nothing hugely involving or time consuming, lord knows I'm busy as hell but could easily manage a game against someone with schedule in advance. If anyone is interested on 360, sign up here http://challonge.com/hwo116nz

I think it would be cool to do a little 360 tourney and see the different builds people would come up with.

I have to get the game again. My disc scratched/broke after the one month you get to return it for a new one (I didn't get the year warranty ) so I have to wait till I get money again to buy a new one.

Actually just heard about this game last week. I went ahead and picked it up and I gotta say, this is very well developed game. Pisses me off when my experienced Sgts die off, but very good. I've started over a good 7 times already. Make that 8, because I'm about to start over again here in a few minutes lol. I just wanna have one of my squad get over 5 missions on his resume without dying... sheesh!! I'm playing on normal/ironman mode out of the box by the way (and thats with NO familiarity of XCOM history) Hey, I'm a glutton for high difficulty and punishment.

                          I'm wondering two things.

                          1. Is it really possible to not have ANYONE drop out of the alliance?

                          2. Does anyone have a particular squad mate that has made it to 10 missions? In this game world I'm considering anyone over 5 missions a real veteran. If they make it that far, they get the perk of not having to scout or take point again.

                          Anyway, game is spectacular.

                            Re: XCOM: Enemy Unknown

Currently have 2 with 18 missions and 3 with around 12 missions. All I can say is, move slow, spread out your squad for you won't get flanked but not too far apart to the point that one could get cut off from the rest. Get laser weapons as fast as possible, then plasma weapons as fast as possible.

Think of this game as real life and you will do better. That is what helped me the most. I think of every move, every research as a real life situation. Learning to fall back is a life saver too. Some of the enemies can move very far and then attack all in the same turn. Be careful of that. See somebody getting too close, fall back.

I'll be picking this game later this week. I see a lot of you guys touting the replay value and discussing various results after playing through a second, third or more times.

How long does an average play through take?

I think to beat it, it averages around 25 - 30 hours. Pretty robust.
