    Re: Gears of War: Judgment

    Previous and new info:
    • Developed by People Can Fly (Bulletstorm, Painkiller)
    • 15 years before Gears 1
    • Setting is Halvo Bay, which is the home of the Onyx Guard Academy. Looks like modern day San Diego or San Francisco of World War 2.
    • Baird and the rest of Kilo Squad are to stand trial for transgression against the Coalition of Governments.
    • Team Kilo is composed of Damon Baird, Augustus Cole, Garron Paduk and Sophia Hendricks.
    • Still third-person, but with an FPS control scheme - LB tosses grenade, Y switches primary weapons, hold it down for pistol.
    • Gameplay is much faster
    • Because the gameplay segments of Judgement take place early on in humanity’s fight against the Locust, you face more enemies onscreen than ever before.
    • Less cutscenes, plot is primarily delivered through narration - environmental and characters narrate their own part of the puzzle to the testimony
    • Want to bring the scare of the Locust back.
    • “One of the pillars of the game is high replayability, and that’s part of what we call the Smart Spawn System, or S3,” Fergusson points out, “Basically it looks at how you’re playing and it will adapt. It will see if you’ve played a section before and it’s mixes up the enemy variety.”
    • The AI system will take into account player movement, position, and even the difficultly setting when orchestrating enemy attacks.

    • The OverRun mode for multiplayer is PvP and 5v5.

    COG Classes:
    • Baird (Engineer) -- Weapons: Gnasher and Blowtorch -- Special: Sentry Turret -- Blowtorch repairs damaged fortifications
    • Cole (Soldier) -- Weapons: Lancer and Boomshot -- Special: Deploy Ammo
    • Sofia (Medic) -- Weapons: Lancer and Snub Pistol -- Special: Stim Gas Grenade -- Revives allies
    • Garron (Scout) -- Weapons: Longshot and Snub -- Special: Beacon Grenade -- Climb perches for better sniping leverage

    Locust - OverRun mode
    • Wretch
Role: Leap over hazards, clim perches.
      Special: Stunning scream.
Tip: Travel in packs and stagger screams for maximum stunning power.

    • Ticker
Role: Eat fortifications, eat grenades, detonate.
      Special: Speed boost.
Tip: Can be kicked over barriers by grenadiers.

    • Kantus
Role: Hammerburst rifle, heal friendly units, ride Bloodmounts.
      Special: Chain heal.
Tip: Support valuable units like Corpser and Mauler with healing.

    • Grenadier
      Role: Lancer rifle, ride Bloodmounts.
      Special: Frag Grenade.
Tip: Throw grenade at COG turret to cause deadly explosion near enemies.

    • Bloodmount
Role: Melee enemies/fortifications, be ridden by Grenadier and Kantus.
Special: Halve the cooldown time on rider's special ability (passive)
Tip: Carry a mounted Kantus behind cover while his heal recharges.

    • Mauler
Role: Devastate fortifications and COG soldiers with flail and shield.
      Special: Spinning spike shield.
Tip: Aim the reticle at enemies while shield spins to deflect bullets back at COGs.

    • Serapede
Role: Eat through barriers, destory COGs, ranged support.
      Special: Spit poison.
Tip: Have two Serapedes overlap to protect one another's vulnerable rears.

    • Corpser
Role: Demolish fortifications and COGs with heavy melee.
      Special: Burrow and move underground.
Tip: Armored legs reduce damage from the front.

        Thanks Altimus........

After reading more on this new Gears, it's going to really piss off a lot of the hardcore fans. EPIC lost a lot of fans with the changes in Gears 2, they went back to what worked well with Gears 3 and now Judgment is doing some funky things with this series especially with optional FPS controls in a TPS. One thing I dislike is how there are less cutscenes driving the story.

A big YUCK to that new control scheme. And less cutscenes? Very lame. I love watching a story unfold.

This series was already extremely popular for being what is was... Why start making it more like everything else now?

Less cutscenes is not necessarily a bad thing. Both Half Life and Dead Space portray their stories very well without the use of cutscenes.

Although PCF's previous games in Painkiller and Bulletstorm aren't really story focused at all so we'll see.

Control scheme sounds superior to me, especially for what is supposed to be a faster playing game than previous Gears. I'm sure they can offer classic controls if people really want them.

Trying to remember but what was LB's use in Gears 1-3? Dedicated grenade buttons are always better, because if I have to switch to them I never use them.

I want to say LB was used for Tac/Com, but its been awhile since I played Gears.

No way. The LB was the tac-com which is probably the most useful tool in Gears. Older games showed location and weapons of your teammates which was huge if u had a power weapon. In Gears 3 its location only.

I hate the new button layout with a passion.

I'm kinda worried about this game.. I was a hardcore fan of Gears 1-3 but this spin off by a different team just has me uneasy. I like what I'm seeing especially the Game Informer covers but I need more info before I jump ship

                          Re: Gears of War: Judgment

Game Informer: Hands-On With Gears Of War: Judgment's OverRun Mode

OverRun consists of two timed rounds, allowing each team to play an offense-based Locust round and a defense-based COG round. When playing as the Locust horde, you’re tasked with breaching two sealed emergence holes before finally destroying the COG power generator. These emergence holes are placed one after the other, so you’ll be destroying them in sequence rather than choosing between two simultaneous objectives. Once you’ve destroyed the seal of one of these holes, the COGs are annihilated by a Kryll storm and your team gains a new spawn position. Several minutes are also added to the timer, giving your team more time to make the final push towards the generator. Scoring is determined by how many objectives the Locust complete, with a maximum of three points awarded if they manage to open both emergence holes and destroy the generator before time runs out. In the case of a tie, the team that completed the tasks in less time gets the win.

Locust characters typically rely on their natural abilities, but the four COG classes focus more on technology. Soldiers, medics, and scouts provide ammo, health/revives, and motion trackers, respectively. In Battlefield, you have to be in close proximity to a teammate to provide support, but Gears of War: Judgment allows these classes to toss their support items like a grenade.
As you take down fortifications, deal damage to emergence holes, and kill enemy COG, the Locust players earn points that can be used as currency to unlock more dangerous creatures. Tickers, Wretches, Grenadiers, and Kantus healing classes are always available, but you’ll have to save up points to access the second tier, consisting of Bloodmounts, Corpsers, Serapedes, and Maulers.
Each playable unit has a unique ability tied to the left bumper, such as the aforementioned engineer sentry, Ticker dash, and Wretch scream. Epic wants players to use each character’s ability on a regular basis, but still be vulnerable in-between recharges. During our gameplay sessions, most abilities operated on a 6- to15-second cooldown timer, and they varied wildly. Serapedes rear up and spit poison at foes, Maulers spin their shields and reflect bullets, Corpsers burrow underground to avoid taking damage, Grenadiers toss explosives and ride Bloodmounts, and the shaman-like Kantus provide support with a heal ability that protects all nearby Locust.

Over the course of two days, we played several hours of OverRun mode and continuously discovered new strategies that led to more tactical and engaging rounds. While our skill level never reached a point that allowed us to beat Epic on a regular basis, the pursuit was consistently entertaining and left us wanting more. Even at this early stage, OverRun certainly feels like it will become the premiere multiplayer mode for Judgment.

Hoping the shield will finally have the ability to be used as a melee weapon in this installment..
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.
