Re: Dark Souls II
Just want to say that after a couple weeks, I see what the hype is about. I'm up to level 55 or so with my cleric with four bosses down (last giant, pursuer, dragon rider, and the flexile sentry), sometimes by myself and sometimes summoning. Just ran through No Man's Wharf first try without dying.
I love this game.

Re: Dark Souls II
I've been a club guy my most of my playthrough. I've heard a bit about maces, are they that good? Especially since most seem to be using the starting mace.Comment

Re: Dark Souls II
Surprisingly, it's a great starting mace. I started off as a cleric too and ran through half the game just 2 handing that weapon. I still go back to that weapon as it hits hard and swings pretty quick. I think Lenigrast sells it early.Comment

Re: Dark Souls II
This game seems relatively easy to speedrun because of the staggering. Though, those guys are really, really good at the game and can dodge any attack that comes their way. I lot of the moves added in NG+ would make it virtually impossible to speed through, I would imagine.Writer for Operation Sports

Re: Dark Souls II
I beat Demon Souls for the first time last week and loved it. Not long after I went to Amazon and bought Dark Souls 1&2. DS2 arrived first so I just started it, as a deprived class haven't made it very far but I'm liking it already.New York Yankees

Re: Dark Souls II
So I'm going through theSpoilerGiant Memories, haven't been to the one with the Great Lord yet. The Giants are some of the cheapest enemies in the game. Instant stun lock when they do an attack, massive damage on every hit, along with a small time frame in the memory. I have the Ancient Dragon Soul from Freja's place, two souls from normal Giants(memory with the lance and one with the shield), about to hit the Giant Lord one.Comment

Re: Dark Souls II
Took my time, but I finally beat the game. ISpoilerwent through the Giant memories, picking up the Kinship of the Giants. The Giant Lord was easy, just hugged his legs. I then headed back to the castle, through the King's Door, and entered the Throne of Want with the two summons(for quest lines). The Throne Watchers were neat looking, but went down easily. The smaller one had almost no defenses, and once his gold buddy was down, you could just power stance him.
I was a bit surprised when Nashandra was the final boss, as I thought it was setting up some sort of Giant or Dragon confrontation. She wasn't that bad once I learned you could hit the curse things through an errant swing. She had the Smelter Demon pulse attack that got me the first time. The second time she was decent, as I'd run up and get some nice shots in while she did her laser attack. So Nashandra died, some nice Giants made a bridge for me, and I became the new Heir with the Throne of Want.
My lore thoughts wereSpoilerso obviously she was part of Nito, right? From what I read in game, she was power hungry, made the King go get the Throne of Want from the Giants, pissing them off. The Giants then invaded the kingdom, while she brought in a "dark piece", that cursed the King and the land. She was also looking for the First Flame and the Great Soul...
I lit all the bonfires and have NG+ open to me if I want it. I'm not sure if I'll go yet, as theSpoilerstone woman finally sells unlimited Chunks.

SpoilerI think that's pretty spot on. From what I gathered, Natasha used Venderick as a distraction of sorts while she took command. That's why the shot of Venderick walking around in circles, dragging his sword, was so jarring for me. The story really comes full circle, at that point.
I think Natasha was fine as a boss, but in terms of overall power/story, it was pretty clear she manipulated her way to the thrown. In that light, it made some sense that she wasn't as powerful as Gwyn. For me, this brief reign over the DS universe was more of a bridge to what From Software has said will be their biggest effort yet in Dark Souls 3.Writer for Operation Sports

But yeah, the whole game you're hearing of how great Venderick was, how he was a warrior king. I had the same feeling when I came across him, just walking in circles. I was a big fan of the Royal Aegis in front of Venderick. He reminded me of Artoris(sp?) from DS.
When I first met the Queen, something felt weird. Kind of like the "Princess" in DS, where the land is cursed, the king is cursed, and damn castle is cursed, yet she still looks pristine and no worse for wear. The backstory on the Emerald Herald was interesting, with the whole Dragon thing.
I'm also curious as toSpoilerwho Aldia was/is. He is mentioned in multiple item descriptions, created many monsters, and even had a dragon.

Dark Souls II
SpoilerGAVLAN WHEEL. GAVLAN DEAL.
I also like the pyromancy lady whose name escapes my mind. I gave her full havels set and she looks hilarious! she's a nice change of pace from the rest of the NPC's. Always in a positive and joyful mood

Re: Dark Souls II
Spoilerran into that guy three times, he offered me to join, but I didn't take him up on it. You meet Havel?I need to head back through the Warf as I never met Galavan.
A cool theory I was reading about, involvingSpoilerThe Last Giant, the first boss fight is that he is the Giant Lord in the memory. It says that the Giant Lord was defeated by a nameless hero. That and when you enter his boss room for the first time, he is calm until he notices you, and becomes enraged like he remembers who you are.Comment

Re: Dark Souls II
SpoilerI thought that was really cool, actually. It sort of felt like that's something that might come up in future installments. I'm not sure how accurate this is, but it felt like some sort of hell, or prison.Writer for Operation Sports
