    Re: The Witcher 3

The fun has come to a complete halt. After breezing through the first 7/8 hours I'm am getting slaughtered time and time again in a cave underground. Playing on normal presents more than enough challenge for me.

Game has far exceeded my expectations and it will no doubt put the other games in my rotation to bed for a while. The Witcher 3 is just that good

Off to pull the Strategy Guide out and figure out how to kill this Hybrid sob

Is the witcher 2, or even witcher 1, gameplay like this? If so I might have to go through both those games on my PC ASAP

It's not operator error, I find the controls to be clunky as hell. Annoying really.

Had to step out for a while but about to get back into it.

Before I left I had a few decisions to make.. I know they really affect things and.. well I feel like an *** about one decision...

The Witcher 2's combat is very similar to this one, but it isn't a vast open world with tons of places to explore. The game's broken down into 3 or 4 areas I think, each with its own main and sidequests. There's no monster hunting either.

The Witcher 1 has the monster hunting, but the combat feels very different. I have to imagine if you went back it wouldn't feel great.

I never finished 2 but got about 3/4 of the way through. I remember having to make decisions and really being torn about what to choose. That's the beauty of these games. Actually make you "feel"; not only button mashing monsters into oblivion. Though we get to do that as well.

Throw the vast openness, story, combat, decisions, scenery etc into the mix and this game should be finding itself in rare company, a la Red Dead and as Flight eluded to earlier and TLoU.

Having said that you guys are killing me. I'm still at work with an hour+ drive home...the day is dragging!

I agree, there is a bit of a floatyness (totally not a word) to Geralt. It's hard to describe it, but the weight is just off. That tutorial with him running around was just weird to me. I ended up jumping down instead of climbing. First off, I wasn't going to let Ciri beat me, and second I had no idea how to climb down ladders. The jump animation captures the weight thing I describe.

Other than that I do enjoy the combat controls. The lock-on helps when I remember to engage it. Plus I notice the timing of the rhythm of the hits are still in there from Witcher 1 and 2, but they really don't talk about it in the tutorial either. For those that haven't played the earlier games it's akin to combat of Batman. Don't mash the button, but try to time your strikes. If you time it correctly, the strikes should flow from one to another.

Some thoughts (didn't feel like multi quoting)

Headset is very nice with it. Wind howling as trees sway while I stalk a beast in the forest is super nice

Controls are a little funky. Not terrible, but not great. I felt the same way about Evolve. Just feels loose. I think I'm getting used to it tho.

Thanks for feedback on the first two games. I'll probably play W2 at some point for sure.

I love the gravity of the choices you can make. Real heavy consequences.

I feel this game is a mix of a bunch of really awesome games. There are bits of TLOU, RDR, Masa Effect, bloodborne, Skyrim, it just meshes well together. A real treat so far.

Using the One controller on PC. Works great. If you're not using a controller on PC I'm not sure it binds heavy attack to anything and you have to edit an INI to change some keybinds FYI.

Also it will switch between gamepad and keyboard on the fly, very nice.

I'm not getting this until Saturday or so but if I have access to both consoles, and I do, the PS4 is the one to get it for right? I remember something about it running at 900p on One and 1080p on PS4 or something.

I'm playing it on PS4 and my roommate has it on his One. I watched him play some today while I was eating lunch and I really couldn't tell the difference. I didn't get super close to examine tho
