Loving this game though quite confused with alchamey, upgrades, etc.

First, I just want to say that this game owns my soul. I haven't felt this way about a game since TLOU. The Witcher 3 may just end up being my favorite game ever. I'm astounded.

But yeah, this stuff really confuses me. For instance, I really would like to get some more of those abilities (such as Cat), but the game does a really bad job at indicating to the player how exactly to do it. For instance, I had no idea what Swallow was until I read about it on a forum. Seriously. I didn't know a health potion even existed until I read about it on the Internet:

I also really want to upgrade my armor and weapons. The problem is, and I get you need schematics, but all of the schematics I have are for weapons that are weaker than the ones I currently have.

Ok. So how do I upgrade my current weapons then?

And how do I get better/more oils?

A very early side-quest involving a damn frying pan is more interesting and has better writing than 90% of side-quests in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

In DAI that would have been a fetch quest for iron to have the blacksmith make her a new pan.

I enjoy the more personal story of Geralt and others, and the more grounded fantasy compared to the save the world trope BioWare has been running for years.

A very early side-quest involving a damn frying pan is more interesting and has better writing than 90% of side-quests in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

When it comes to blending world-building, characters, quests, choices, and exploration, Inquisition isn't even in the same league.

The Witcher 3 in most ways is the antithesis of what I found to be lacking in Inquisition. Ultimately, I guess the two games had different goals, it's just I prefer those of The Witcher 3 and how CDPR executed on theirs.

LOL! I just told my brother that I'll never play DAI ever again, and I loved DAI.

Everything you do in this game has meaning. Even the side quest and random encounters are so remarkably engrossing and well written.

CDPR knocked it out of the park. I can't stop thinking about this game. Every RPG made from here on out needs to take notice.

I'm actually worried this may let me down on MGS TPP. I know it sounds crazy because MGS is like my favorite franchise ever. But seriously, fetch-quests need to rot in hell and I'm now very concerned Kojima may include them. I'm sure it'll be brilliant but that's how good TW3 is!

The Witcher 3 sets the new benchmark as far as I'm concerned.

A bit of weirdness happened when I came to a bridge with water underneath I rode up with roach to the edge of the water. I got off went for a swim to search for items & when I came back up I noticed roach was gone. I tried calling but he didn't come so I dove back in the water & to my surprise I saw roach standing at the bottom so I tried to hop on him but then he disappeared. It took a few tries to call him but eventually he came back to me. Maybe roach has part fish in him.

Absolutely addicted to Gwent. The Monster decks I've encountered seem really over powered. I have a very strong Northern Realms deck and it gets crushed by the Monster Decks.

I also think fast traveling in this game is not the way to go. I would have missed out on a few quests and random encounters with people on the roads on the way to my location.

Agreed, and agreed

Not only do I not fast travel unless I have to, but I tend to run a lot of places just to makes sure I don't miss out on any fine details.

I had a great session this morning/afternoon. Put PS4 in rest mode to recharge headset and controller while watching UFC, then will get back into it. Finally got to the first couple story quests in Velen, and man, they are awesome.

I try to do that in large open world games too (Red Dead, Skyrim, GTA, etc). I feel you miss so much of the grand scope of the world when jumping from location to location. Its the little things, just like in MLB, that bring you in.

Love just going anywhere and exploring finding things. Is there anybody else that mostly walks and not even worry about a horse? Most of my traveling is this way.

Yeah, that's me for sure.

Especially with consumables being so important for regenning health on the harder difficulties that I play on now, I go through the landscape and try to pick off groups of wolves for the raw meat

Some of the Ghoulish creatures you may run into at some of these Undiscovered locations are just insane. I've been gaming for over 25 years and this might be the best game I've ever played. RDR was the only other game I could say that about.

Been playing everyday since Monday and the farthest I've gotten quest wise is IN CIRI'S FOOTSTEPS. I can't stop venturing around the land to save my life.
