Anyone play Ladies Of The Woods? I'd like some explanation...

I'm a little confused about what exactly is happening here. Can someone explain it to me like I'm stupid? Who are these witches? Also, I decided that the tree spirit thing was not being honest. But who was/is he?

I just got to the part where you play as Ciri during that quest. So if it's all explained at the end of the quest, just let me know that it'll all make sense once I finish the quest. This game has been pretty easy to follow to now but this quest is confusing me.

I just finished it today. They explain a little more before the quest is over. They are crones, which is apparently different than witches. I'm pretty sure they help out the surrounding villages but expect payment in return. I also decided the tree thing was dishonest/evil. The crones talk about it a bit once you see them again, if you ask the right questions. My understanding is that the person/soul/spirit that took over the tree was once with the 3 crones. I think she got out of line and the 3 crones punished her.

There's another quest you can do a little bit after Ladies of the Wood that explains a little bit more about the crones. I'm still a tad confused though. Definitely the most complicated story in the game so far.

Anyone have any tips fore the Werewolf ? I have nothing with any information about Werewolfs in my Bestiary and struggling to figure out how to combat the ****ing thing. I know I can get behind him occasionally and deal more damage and sometimes use fire to slow down the health regeneration, but it doesn't seem to be enough.

I believe werewolves are susceptible to cursed oil. The way I defeated it (and the werewolf in a side quest) was by blasting igni over and over again. I have the alternative mode for igni, so it starts burning them for a few seconds, giving me time to get 2 or 3 hits in with a sword as well.

I used the Axii sign, or whatever the sign is to confuse enemies. I spammed that over and over and eventually killed him. Also dodged quite a bit too.

Just checked, and you it works.

Are you sure? I removed the Axii mind control from my action tree and was not able to use it. I did the same with the Quen shield upgrade and noticed it wasn't "breaking" upon contact.

Definitely an interesting way to upgrade skills and makes you think before just spending points. I need to respec some of my General skills to combat. I'm to the point where I don't really need vitality buffers as much as I did in the beginning.

Yes, that was a bitch and a half for me. I couldn't keep the werewolf lit long enough to take advantage of the dragon's dream, but the other bombs did significant damage as well.

This is my basic understanding of that quest:

The witches are keeping Anna Stranger as a servant of sorts for helping her miscarriage. She takes care of the children that are there as basically sacrificial inventory for the witches. The tree spirit is the witches "Mother" who they imprisoned when the land began deteriorating and people began venturing into the bog. Its in the book She Who Knows: http://i.imgur.com/NFpKKbT.png

I'm not sure why I chose to help the tree since Geralt agreed to the contract of killing, but considering it was a deal with witches I didn't exactly trust them to be fair one way or another. Plus, it just seemed like the tree spirit was being defensive against the villagers who were unwittingly being tools for the witches service. They would try to kill the tree because they blamed the tree for all the bad happenings. The witches demanded payment to protect the village from this spirit that they themselves had locked up.

re: Ladies of the Wood/Return to Crookback Bog

Holy ****. I don't think I have ever felt this many emotions while watching a game's story unfold apart from maybe The Last of Us. Honestly, I still think my reasoning for freeing the tree spirit is sound and "right," but once I stepped foot into Downwarren and saw Black Beauty's vengeance I started feeling regretful for my actions. Sure, the villagers were essentially in league with the witches and acting on their behalf, but they were tools for the witches. Unfortunate demise for them.

On the flipside, Black Beauty freed the children of the bog so the actual innocents in this whole ordeal are saved. All the other parties are involved and while some are more morally ambiguous than others I feel like their actions held more weight than mine. Plus, ultimately, those witches are to blame for this whole mess.

As for Anna and Baron - I kind of just fell into a neutral, "ya'll got a ****ed up thing going on." After Baron's last story about Anna's repeated murder/suicide attempts, running away, and Baron killing Anna's boyfriend in front of her I was decided that any end to that cycle will be a blessing to them both. Unfortunately, it ends in their deaths.

This game is beautiful on all fronts. The quests and choices actually make you feel legitimate emotions. I sat there uneasy at the start of Return of Crookback Bog as a I saw how my decision played out and as the quest continued and my decision played out further I felt a slight pain of regret and actual sympathy for the characters. Unreal.

I am definitely trying to test the abilities thing and see. I always thought that you had to put the ability in a slot for it to be activated. I could be wrong though?

Does anyone with a manual or guide know for sure?

Does anybody know the timeline of Ciri's movements through Velen? I guess it doesn't matter, but I feel like I played a sequence out of order that is throwing me off.

I'm also starting to get the hang of Gwent, but I cannot find any cards to buy to save my life. My Northern Realms deck is up to 97 card strength, but I haven't been able to find where to buy new leader cards or additional unit cards yet. I managed to beat the Baron and get his special card and have beaten a handful of random smithies, merchants, and innkeepers. The armorer's journeyman at Crow's Perch is giving me fits, however.

Anyone with the sun and stars ability can find out quickly. I'm sure abilities need to be placed in spots. Otherwise what's the point of having those slots?

I m level 8 in Valen and I have encountered bandit hideouts that destroy me. I would say I wouldn't expect to dominate every area of Valen until I'm like a 15 or 16.

To specifically answer your question, yes you had a few bad lucks hitting the higher level ?s there are plenty you should be able to handle, but at level 4 or 5 it'll be challenging.

What did I do wrong to be so under powered if that is the case? I completed everything I could before advancing.

So you guys feel investing in arrow deflection is worth it?

I find myself just trying to time the deflection perfectly to send it back and missing. Plus yrden leveled up destroya arrows. I might use my potion of clearance and am trying to optimize my skills

Also, there's a person in distress marker that is killing me because the bandits don't drop the key to let the guy out. I've loaded a bunch of past saves and no matter what I can't find a key anywhere at the camp

If you have that many cards in a single deck you are decreasing the odds of getting your best cards in your hand.

I only have 22 units in the deck and 2 decoys and 2 commanding horns.

Deck Strength is simply the total point number for the units.

Anyway, apparently I missed a couple cards from White Orchard since I actually lost to the tutorial guy and didn't play/buy all the cards from the innkeeper there. I believe they will be in the next console patch because its already patched in for PC.

I got that too. I think it's just best to try and forget about it. Game is great, but little bugs like this are really annoying.

If you're using Yrden often I would say no since it already has the arrow destroying ability. I guess it also depends on our level and play style. I'm playing on Hard and the first thing I always have to do when fighting humans is take out the archers since their arrows do so much damage.
