I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. I'm only level 5 right now....Guess I need to find more quest or something.

You probably aren't doing anything wrong.

I've played quite a bit and I'm barely level 8. I've been limited on time except for a few long sessions so I'm not too concerned with leveling fast.

As long as you're enjoying the story, side missions, etc. I don't think it matters what level you are or how fast you get there.

A word of advice for all those venturing to Novigrad - pay a visit to the bank. All those coins that you collect sitting in your inventory will be converted to real currency and added to your gold.

I've found that you get more XP from main quests. So if you're lagging pick up the story for a few levels then do all the side stuff you can.

So I got to play for only an hour or two before going on a week's vacation. Now I'm back and I can't remember all the combat tutorial stuff, specifically counters and parries. On the PS4 it is L2 to counterattack and parry. Do I just press L2 at the right time and it will couterattack or do I need to do a combo of L2 and one of the attach buttons? I couldn't get the counters to work right last night. Also, I read that the vitality bar flashes or something when it is the correct time to press L2, so I'll watch more for that. But why are the enemies sometimes hightlighted in red? Is that because the L2 button also doubles as that Witcher vision?

I've found that you get more XP from main quests. So if you're lagging pick up the story for a few levels then do all the side stuff you can.

When an enemy goes to swing their weapon is when you tap the block button (L2 on PS4). Also, their health bar will flash red. Once you parry you can quickly follow up with an attack while the enemy is momentarily pushed back.

I still have trouble parrying enemies with pikes. Swords and axes are fairly easy as you can tap block once they have their weapon above their heads.

To counter you have to press L2 as the enemy starts to attack. I don't have much success with that, so I just dodge and block (hold L2). Enemies are highlighted in red if you press L2 while out of combat. That's the witcher vision.

I can't stress enough that not taking damage and using signs are crucial for combat. In other games, I can usually kill an enemy before they kill be, and not have to worry about defense too much. But in this, being lazy and going all out of attack without worrying about defense gets me killed by even the weakest opponents

There is one in Claywich after you rescue him from bandits.

There is also one in Oxenfurt and should be one in Novigrad. I would assume there's one in Skellige, but I haven't sailed there yet.

Yeah I've barely gotten any work done all day thinking about playing it later haha.

Going to grab the guide too, the 578 page one, any more thoughts on that? I've heard great things about it.
