I'm playing at Blood and Broken Bones (hard) after starting on Story and Sword (I always play my adventure games on normal). Still a bit easy now, and I'm afraid it might get worse on the DLCs (I'm only 1 level below the recommended to start Hearts of Stone, so the current gap will probably increase).

I think turning enemy upscaling on is the obvious answer to this matter, but I read about some bugs with rats and some other enemies scaling to be much much stronger than they should (almost unbeatable) and people generally having a bad time when they had this option turned on accidentally.

TBH, I'd like the game more if it didn't have a levelling system.

    How do you tackle this?

Too hard IMO....Quests that recommend level 20 I cannot beat and I'm like level 23 or something

I was killing some time one day and decided to do one or two contracts. Got curious when I read one adressed specifically to Geralt and went to see what it was about.

Next thing I know is I was in Toussant with some goofy soldiers (colorful place, isn't it?). Killed a giant and went back to Velen immediately.

Yeah its a pretty amazing place and the perfect place to end it all. Not ashamed to admit that I tear up every time I get to it.

Sounds like you're ready for Death March.

I would at least give it a try before messing with enemy upscaling.

Plus, I think the difficulty in both HoS and B&W were buffed up a bit overall. But still, just move up to Death March. It's fun.

Maybe. HoS started at a difficulty level that felt just right at Blood and Broken Bones, though. I think your last paragraph has some merit. I'll wait a bit. BTW, I gave a break to the game to play The Evil Within 2 before diving too deep into the DLCs.

Yeah.. I had my *** handed to me in those first couple of boss battles on HoS.

That was probably the point in my playthrough where I realized how useful alchemy and oils could be.

I think it depends if you're a completionist.

I'm not, and I just act as if they don't exist. They're mostly filler anyway. But I never use fast travel, cause I like traversing the world to enjoy the landscape, so I bump into a lot of these activities just by passing close to them. It makes the experience feel more organic.

But in the end, it's up to you how you wanna play them. I'd do it between missions if I had to choose.

Doing a bunch of them at once kind of burns me out.. feels a little grindy.

I usually just try to hit as many as I can on my way to the next quest. And then everyonce in a while, if the mood strikes me, I'll take a break from whatever else I'm doing and try to knock out a handful of them in an out of the way area.

Haven’t played this in months and currently I am sitting at Lvl 21. I’ve forgotten so much that I’m thinking its best that I just start over from scratch. I’m sure there is so much I’ve missed out on so going back won’t be so bad.

Question for the PC guys here...

What are the must have mods for a fairly straightforward playthrough? Not looking to do anything drastic, but I just started poking around Nexus mods and I'm definitely intrigued.

My only issue is that I don't have a ton of FPS to spare. Playing on mid-range gaming laptop. Actually, probably worse than mid-range, but I average in the low to mid 40s with Witcher 3.

I have a framerate on the 50s and I personally don't consider trying graphic mods, because any improvement would have a performance cost and tbh the game is already gorgeous out of the box.

                                Spoiler

Having read all of the books, played all of the games several times each and having also read the World of The Witcher and a myriad of other materials on the lore and world. I will take a swing at this one.

The Ghosts and Wraiths in the Realm of the Witcher, which is only referred to as the Continent or the Northern Realms, are a result of curses or powerful magic. This entities are brought to "life" thru powerful emotions around their demise or resulting curses. Hence the Botchling in the Family Matters Quest line or the Various Noon and Night Wraiths encountered. These all started after the "Conjuction of Spheres" when Magic and Monsters were re introduced into the world, hence the need for the Witchers to begin with.

Since other realms are known of as well as other regions of time and space. The existence of a "Spiritual" Afterlife based on Religious principles has never really been proven or disproven. It is mostly left to matters of Faith much like our society. Each Race seems to have a Theological concept but whether this is in the nature of remnants of the "Conjuction of Spheres", Realms of Time and Space or more "Spiritual" groundings is obviously up for debate.

                                Edit:

It should be noted that The Church of Fire as an actual organized religion is fairly new concept to this Realm. The majority of its people have a faith based around Dieties and mythical beings and prophets. Most are your traditional gods of Love, Healing, Death etc. For example the Church of Fire holds no sway or impact in the Isles but is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with in the North.

Lord apparently I am a bigger geek of this game than I thought. I need help...
