    Re: Ryse: Son of Rome

I bought the XBone strictly to play this game. (I have a PS4 and planned on buying it anyways - but not until mid next year). I will say this - this game has NOT disappointed. I love everything about it. I'm only halway through it because I am taking my time. But man... I love it.

        Re: Ryse: Son of Rome

Just finished IV and V....This game looks more impressive by the second and the voice acting is superb...Not having any issues with the story. It's great so far....also the Emperor's Son is a prick. Hate him!!!!

So far so good and details per level are just more impressive by the hour....

There is no way, that anyone that has an XB1 shouldn't have this game in their library. It shows the power of next gen, and makes me so excited about where they go from here...

        Love it.

Just started and man what a beautiful damn game. Man they really have to do another one. Once they figure out how to manipulate the hardware can you imagine something like this with the original character plans of 150k polys per model? This game is already lovely looking LOL.

                  Ryse: Mini Review

+ The visuals are exceptional. When I say exceptional, I mean out of this world good. Maybe the best I've ever seen. It's not just in the environment, but in the attention to detail on character's faces, parts of the levels that maybe 1% of the player base even looks at (believe me, I searched each and every little thing in my two playthroughs), and the disgustingly real gore.

+ The story was a mega surprise for me. I avoided most reviews (because I knew I was getting this one either way), but I knew a lot of them weren't favorable. I figured that was mostly due to a shallow storyline, but that definitely was not the case. It starts off a little loose, but everything is tied together at the end with a few twists and turns.

+ I enjoyed most of the "boss" battles. They usually took me two or three tries to beat on the hardest levels. Still room for improvement there, but it was fun to face bosses with different fighting styles.

+ The audio was great. In some of the huge war scenes, you can hear troops marching, horns blasting, and people dying. The voice work was also top notch.

                  - The combat is just okay. On the harder difficulties, I avoided most of the repetitiveness because you really do have to focus on the timing of your blocks and stuff like that. But even with almost all my executions unlocked, you still see a lot of them repeated. If it weren't in slow motion, I doubt it would have bothered me.

                  - The idea of QTE has never bothered me. But when I hit the wrong button, there has to be more recourse than slowing down my combo chain. I suspect this is the first thing Crytek would work on, given that they make a sequel.

                  - The upgrades are fairly meaningless. I never really understood focus mode, which was basically just a five second window of slashing as fast as you can. It doesn't work against bosses, and you can usually only take out a single enemy or two in the allotted time.

                  - You run into a lot of similar looking enemies. After playing Dead Rising 3 and seeing what seems like thousands of different zombie models, it seems off that Ryse probably had somewhere around 50.

All in all, I'd probably give it somewhere in the range of a 7. But that's hard, because I'm not sure I've ever enjoyed a game in that score range quite so much. A really awesome experience, and I'd recommend everyone to ignore the large scores if they think they can look past combat that is just OK.

                    Re: Ryse: Son of Rome

Just finished on Centurion level. All I can say is those reviews do not do this game justice at all. They are right about the simplistic combat, but what they failed to mention was the compelling story. The story had me captured throughout. And the end ohh my goodness what a way to end.

By no means perfect but very compelling and the story definitely pulled me into its world. I want more lots more. Hopefully this was just the tip of the iceberg to some great narratives. If they can diversify the enemies more and work more on the combat and add in more elements this is a franchise I would love to keep going. Man what a game. I'm kinda mad I finished it now LOL. But I'm going to play it again on the highest level.

To me the ending was of epic proportions. Loved it.

Finished up Ryse last night. I honestly am glad I bought this game because it looked fun and ignored the reviews that weren't so hot. Such a beautiful game, and the gameplan is really fun. I don't remember the last time I was sucked into a single player game or even finished a single player mode but I got hooked on Ryse and was excited to make time to play deeper into the game.

I started on the highest difficulty available, didn't struggle a ton but there were a few times where I had to keep retrying. I know some people will complain about the length of the game, but I still suggest checking out at least. I will definitely be playing through it again.

Watched the "movie" of this game on YouTube as I won't be getting an Xbox. Absolutely stunning graphics and animations. The story wasn't bad either. While watching the cutscenes I couldn't help but think about the potential of the next Uncharted and Elder Scrolls. Also had me wondering when will performances and stories of video games get more attention. The medium is climbing to another level.

Graphically this game is the best I've seen yet on the Xbox One/PS4. An hour in and having a blast!

Agreed completely. I am awestruck at how beautiful this game is. In nearly every scene showing the nature backdrop, I can only imagine how they'd grace a fantasy-based world such as the Elder Scrolls-based games if developed right.

This is the first game I've gotten into on my One. I got it and Madden just before Christmas, and am about half way through it now. Haven't touched the multiplayer yet. The story is amazing.

Just look at the PC versions of Elder Scrolls. Then scale that back a bit.

That's what you'll get from it.
