If you use The Order: 1886 as an example, you would get 20% off the game which reduces the price from $60 to $48. Excluding tax, if you buy three $60 games within two years, you'll save $36 which already gives you a $6 profit from spending $30 on GCU. Also, the extra 10% bonus on trade ins, 10% discount on used games and the fact that it works when Best Buy does a buy 2 get 1 free promotion, it's literally a steal.

The best thing about GCU is that it allows me to take more risks and chances on games on release day than I normally would and while some people may wait until a price drop or the game going on sale for $40 or less, I disagree with this idea simply because the trade in value will drop and you get a lot more when the game releases at launch for it's full retail price.

A good example of this is of me personally buying Dying Light after launch for $60 ($48 GCU) and trying it twice but just couldn't get into the game. Traded it in to Best Buy for $42.90. Excluding tax, the game cost me $5.10 for three days and trying it twice. Basically, a rental. Sad part is that if I would have pre-ordered the game, I would have received the $10 reward cert so the game wouldn't have cost me anything period if I include the tax. Not including the tax, I would have actually made a profit.

While it's obviously up to the person to do this or not, if you're going to buy at least three games at launch in two years, I say sign up by Saturday. Easily worth it in my opinion.

And back to The Order, I stopped collecting games two generations ago so once im finished with the game, I trade it in. Even if the max I get is $35 in credit, the game would only cost me $13 excluding tax. $13 to play an exclusive at launch and finish it is worth it in my opinion.
After reading this, I may sign up for GCU and get the game tomorrow. I also have a $10 reward certificate to use so I can get the game for $38. Nice.

Well I originally thought I'd beat it then trade it in withing a few weeks to get 30-35.00 back. However I'm thinking the game will drop in price pretty quickly so I'll just wait for that drop then grab it down the road.

Yeah, just an FYI to people who still plan on buying the game, the low scores aren't because the play time. For the most part, people are just saying the game is extremely boring.

Well I am sure I will still enjoy it and don't look bad at those who choose to skip it or buy down the road. I know for me it will take a while to beat as I only game about 24 hours a week on average. And with dying light, far cry 4, nhl, and cod plus the order my game plate is full. Will give some feedback tomorrow but if I beat this game by the time I go to bed in the morning I will feel extremely ripped off.
Only 24 hrs a week made me chuckle. That's almost 3.5 hrs a day. I don't even know if I played that much in college. Did you mean 2-4 hrs? Between working around 55 hrs a week and being married, that's more in line with what I get to play. Plus my wife also wants to play this.

I'd venture it will take me a good three weeks to beat this game. I literally JUST beat Far Cry 4 last weekend.

My biggest fear seems to have come true as I see the word boring used in many reviews.

Will wait until/if I actually play the game before casting final judgement, but even if I do buy, it will be well after the $40 price tag as originally planned.

              Re: The Order: 1886

The story stuff is the most surprising to me, I was expecting it to make up for many of the technical and design deficiencies and it seems to be almost universally panned as boring.

The reasons I opted not to buy got their fair share of angst (restricted gunplay elements, replay value, consecutive chapters almost entirely cinema/QTE) but I really expected the story and visuals (in that order) to make up for a bit of that. Length factors in there too at some bit but really as a factor/cause of some of the other reasons.

Even the visuals are taking a hit in some reviews w/ complaints of overdoing the cinematic effects.

Really interested in the initial and then post-honeymoon impressions of the guys really excited about it.

Yeah, I'm lucky if I get to play more than 4-5 hours in a week.

                  The Order: 1886

Come Saturday/Sunday this game will be $35-$40 on Craigslist. If I was in the market for a retail copy I would hold out but as I've gotten older I've went total digital everything. Love the convenience of digital downloads. Yeah I lose out on recouping $$$ from the sale after I'm done with a game but I guess it's different strokes for OLDER folks.

Let's enjoy the game tonight fellas

Do any reviews claim that? The 'speed run' that was posted earlier this week came it at 5 hours. I'm not sure 3 is technically possible due to unskippable cutscenes/QTEs.

Some sites are saying that the actual gameplay number might be around there since there are a lot of cut scenes. Some sites are saying 6 and 7. Some Neogaf users are saying 10+.

The actual number may never be known. Although, someone playing through the game normally, dying multiple times, recorded it all on youtube under six hours. It was not a speed run.

Platinum trophy in 9 hours is what I've read. So anywhere between 5 and 9 hours would be my guess.

Dude. Take anything from the INTERNET with a grain of salt. GAF is no more or less reliable than any site supported by ad revenue, including this place. There are trolls everywhere, on both sides of the fence, even in this thread.

If you want and are excited for the game, go buy it and enjoy. If you don't, don't. It's not really a hard concept. I'm certainly not going to take the word of people with an undying love or hate of the game though, and those people litter the Internet, especially forums.

There are just as many "tards" creeping on these boards daily too.
