Re: The Order: 1886
BTW the first Assassin's Creed is a GREAT example of a self-contained kickoff to a much larger story. Tells a whole narrative but also leaves some dangling threads for future exploration. It's a very thin line.
But, if you'll allow me a little fanfic
SpoilerAlright so let's say this happened instead, after Percival dies. The old man that was meeting with Percival sends word to Galahad that Percival was investigating corruption within The Order, and this is why he was killed. Galahad is reluctant to believe him, but agrees to a meeting where the old man gives him a clue but is killed, seemingly by the rebels. Galahad escapes and confides in Isi and Lucen. Lucen seems to believe Galahad but Isi is skeptical, which causes a fissure in their relationship. There's some conflict between Lucen and Isi, and they both have to decide where their loyalties lie. Isi decides that she doesn't believe that Hastings or her dad would ever do anything like that, while Lucen isn't so sure, but asks Galahad to compile more evidence. From there, Galahad tracks the rebel leader and is captured, and it is revealed to him that the rebellion knows what the order has been up to. He is shown proof of Hastings conspiring with the half-breeds (leave the vampires out of it) and brings this information to Lucen, who asks to meet with the rebel leaders himself. When Galahad arranges this, Lucen betrays him, reveals that he is the one helping Hastings and that Percival got too close, and there's an assault on the rebel base where the rebels are hit heavily. Galahad escapes with the help of Lakshmi, but comes across Lucen, and they fight to the death. Galahad kills Lucen right as Isi arrives to where ever they're fighting, and she holds Galahad at gunpoint, demanding he give himself up. Galahad looks her in the eye, and runs. Isi lets him go. Credits roll.
In a post-credit sequence, we see Hastings meeting with someone who is revealed to be the chancellor, and Isi discovers some clue that makes her start to believe Galahad. Cut to black.
This way you manage to wrap up the primary story thread in this game (who killed Percival), you start the conspiracy off, you give semi-closure to Galahad and Isi (who ultimately can't bring herself to kill him), and you still dangle enough threads for future games.
What do you think?SpoilerThat's all good as well and in a few things that you said actually happened. The rebels knew all along what was going on. They definitely could have done that as well but at the same time, once Lucen would become more involved, you'll figure out that he was against you the entire time. The way they set it up, I guessed that it was him after Percival died because there was no way that the developers were going to eliminate two members of the main four characters - one by death and one by betrayal. Granted, Galahad is no longer a member of The Order but I think that will change in the next game. I think that he'll be welcomed back. The only thing that got me was Lucen being a Lycan. I didn't see that coming at all.
Either way, it's all good and in a way, I prefer to have more unanswered questions going into a sequel.
As for Assassin's Creed, I started with Black Flag and continued with Rogue. I was going to say earlier that Unity (which im playing now) is a perfect example of a game engine NOT being perfected. Don't know about you or anyone else but I would much rather have the near flawless working game as opposed to a nearly unplayable game. And this is coming from someone who loves Ubisoft as they're my favorite developer, publisher and go to company.Comment

Re: The Order: 1886
I'm loving this game! It's disappointing to hear that it's short but the game is so well done. The story is sort of wavering and the stealth missions feel like an excuse to extend time more than anything (it doesn't give a reason as to why a gunfight can't prelude entering the area typically) and Friendly AI from what I've seen is borderline useless (on medium at least).
I'd put it as a solid 7.5/8 right now. It isn't a generation defining game, but it's more than worth the $60 (IMO). Games shouldn't be penalized for lacking the open world drudgery of going from point A to point B to point C, and back again. I love open world games don't get me wrong, but those will always be inherently longer than a linear experience.
I could definitely see the makings of a more broad future of the series and that's always good.
In comparison, this game largely takes the Uncharted combat model and improves on it substantially (in my opinion), while it lacks the platforming elements of the aforementioned title, it's combat is miles beyond Uncharted (imo).
I still have to finish it, so my opinions may change.Bulls|Bears|Cubs| Blackhawks|Huskies|Horned Frogs|

Re: The Order: 1886
Wrapped up better than I expected, but left a lot hanging. Story was OK. I'd try and platinum it but not going to go hunt for inspection items since I didn't get any of those achievements on the playthrough. Interested in the changes they make for the sequel but probably won't pick this up or play through it again.
The instant fail stealth missions and the big firefight toward the end kinda reminded me of GoldenEye, where you could just get to the point of memorizing where everyone was and plan your next attempt appropriately.
Most absurd moment of the final play through had to be trying to find the key in the courtyard on the stealth mission. I shot someone from a good 50+ yards away and... 'There's the key'. At least it made me go pick it up. Will reply to the spoilers conversation later when I've got a few to catch up.
Good game as long as people know what they're getting into and know its their thing. Go into it blind and I can see a lot of boom or bust impressions for sure.Last edited by mestevo; 02-24-2015, 02:22 AM.Comment

Re: The Order: 1886
My only complaint about the game is the lack of a checklist for the collectibles. It's 2015, would it have been that hard?? I got 15 of the 16 recordings, that's the only one I can actually see what I have. I have every other trophy (came naturally with one playthrough so sitting at 80% completition) other than the 4 collecitbles. I want this platinum so this weekend I plan on using some guides to figure out what I'm missing. I really thought I searched every nook and cranny LOL.Comment

I know I read a lot of the newspapers for instance, but how many of the 30 or so there are? I have no idea. Luckily there's some really good guides out thereComment
