That article on length is a little concerning. I pay for the quality of the game, but I also pay for the length. Hard to compare real play time against a speed run, but I expect to get at least $5/hour of enjoyment out of a game I buy. At $60, I would need at least 12 hours of solid main story gameplay (I don't include side quests in that). Game looks good, but I may wait to see how much content it really has before picking it up.

Generally I take 5 or more hours longer than what's posted on the net from sites... So I don't really think the length is an issue. At least for me.
Game looks beautiful for sure also.
Just want gameplay opinions to go off of.

Yeah, that's more important...though at 10 hours most people finish and sell in a weekend lol....though with GCU you could probably buy and trade back in so fast that you don't spend much.

Heh, I'm a slow-*** player too. I like to try to take in as much as possible.

As far as the length/quality debate goes ... I tend to lean towards "quality at any length," but that's an easy argument when I have the cash. Without as much money to play with, it's a different animal altogether.

Well thinking that I can grab for 48.00 then play until I beat it/done with it then more than likely get 30+ trade in. So basically a week rental or so for 18.00 or less.

              Not bad.

I have the cash but just pretty picky these days about where to spend. Spring / summer is when I throw out tons of money at the golf courses lol

                  Re: The Order: 1886

$48 with GCU at launch is a steal and I expect the trade in price to be around $35-$40 for at least a few weeks to a month. Even at $35 plus the 10% bonus I would get equals $38.50. Tax wise, the game comes out to $52.25 so in the end, the game would cost me $13.75. Can't complain about that either way.

As for the game itself, im still expecting about 15 hours for me personally especially since im playing on hard and will be taking my sweet time. A lot of people said The Last Of Us was a 10 hour game but my first play through on PS3 was over 25 hours so I think that when it comes to linear games or the story in open world games, people tend to rush through the game just so they can complain about it.

Either way, a few more days to go and I for one, can't wait to play it.

                    Thanks for this list EG.
Based on that, and knowing how I play games I can add another 3-4 hours onto the 9 hours....so 12-13 hours for a single player game is perfect for me.

If this game is as long as the Bioshock games, I'll be more than happy. I am a very deliberate player so no worries there.

'The Order: 1886' Will Take You More Than Five Hours
PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886 has come under fire in the past few days after a YouTuber uploaded his entire playthrough of the game and clocked it in at just about 5 hours.

The YouTuber, PlayMeThrough, says the game is about half gameplay and half cut-scenes.

But there are important things to note about this number.

PlayMeThrough rushed through The Order: 1886. He didn’t skip cutscenes because they’re not skippable (largely because they weave in and out of gameplay moments) and he didn’t bother exploring or taking his time with the game.

That’s not really how this title is meant to be played. I’ve gunned my way through just about the entire thing already and it’s taken me well over five hours. My impressions of the game are locked behind embargo, but I will say this: The Order: 1886 is best played with a little patience.

Soak in the environments. Explore when you can. Read the bits of lore and correspondence you find. And set the difficulty on high (or at least medium) so that you get a proper challenge. This will take you well over five hours, though how long exactly I can’t quite say—and, of course, it will also depend on player skill.
Other gamers who have played the game are reporting anywhere from eight to fifteen hours. This sounds much closer to my own experience.

                        Click, Meet Bait

Either way, judging a game based on its fastest possible run is silly: I mean, players are finishing Dark Souls in half an hour. My first playthrough of that game was nearly 100 hours.

The bad press The Order: 1886 and Ready at Dawn have been getting over this doesn’t add up. Indie developer Jonathan Blow received a similar bit of bad press when he tweeted that he completed his own game, The Witness, in just six hours during a speed run.

For his part, Ready at Dawn founder and CTO Andrea Pessino tweets “I am done commenting on clickbait rumors about game length,’downgrade’ idiocy and such nonsense. Don’t bother asking.”

Of course, play the game however you like, but you’ll only really get the full scope of The Order: 1886 by enjoying it for what it is. It’s not really a game you want to rush through, much like other PlayStation exclusives like The Last of Us, Uncharted, and so forth.

                        The Bigger the Better?

I’e written my own concerns about The Order: 1886 in the past—and I’ll have more to say about those soon in my review—but game length doesn’t make the list, even though I think a multiplayer mode would have been a nice addition (and I say this as someone who almost always prefers the campaign.) Actually PvP and co-op both make sense as options here, but I understand Ready at Dawn wanted to focus on single-player, and I respect that.
Paul Tassi has a meditation on game-length and value that I think is well worth the read. We’ve discussed this in the past with Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes as well. Frankly, I don’t think there’s any formula at all for this sort of thing beyond the market.

If gamers enjoy the game they’ll pay market prices for it. If they don’t, the game will quickly drop in price until it reaches a dollar amount consumers are will to pay—just like, say, the Xbox One’s plummet to $349.

The Order: 1886 launches this Friday, the 20th. Look for my in-depth review this Thursday. Stay tuned for more The Order: 1886 coverage all week.

The hysteria before this launch reminds me of when Titanfall came out and people were leary about it being 6 v 6... After you played the game all concerns were put to rest. I know I'm not comparing apples to apples, but the type of hysteria that happens before a game is launched. Smh. Too much.

8-12 hrs is sort of my sweet spot for a linear, single-player experience. That will allow me to play through several times on multiple difficulties and potentially obtain a Platinum.

If those GAF times are accurate, this is the perfect length for me (that's what she said).

Its really disappointing how many gaming sites have taken that speed run time and run with it as a piece of evidence for the continued lambasting of this game. I can't think of any other IP, new or established, that has been under this much scrutiny for game length, perceived value, and cinematic narrative.

I plan on replaying this game multiple times so length isn't really a huge issue for me. It appears there will be some DLC so replay value should be relatively high for a long period of time. I'm very excited for this game. I still have a little to do with Dying Light, but other than that, I will be playing 1886 for a long time, most likely 2-3 playthroughs.
