    Re: Crusader Kings II

Something weird just happened in my game. I started out in 769 as a count in Denmark quickly became a Petty King and after a few generations was able to reform the Norse (well its now called Germanic) religion and turn my succession into Primogeniture. Currently I hold Denmark, Saxony, Brandenburg, most of Finland, most of Sweden, and some of the islands of the coast of Scotland.

Meanwhile those Karling's in Europe have not been able to do anything, constant succession wars, fighting heresies and the Umayyads are steam rolling them. So I was not to worried about the Pope calling a crusade on me or the Karlings attacking. But out of no where the Pope called a crusade on me, funny thing was that I noticed the Pope was a little dark

I get a chuckle out of it and move on. At his point I believe that I will be able to fend them off the Catholics (especially with the Jomsvikings on my side) when suddenly I notice that giant blob in Spain pulsing red. So first I look at the Caliph only to notice well he wasn't one

I know for a fact before this current Umayyad Emperor 95% of those lands that they owned were Muslim. No clue how they converted so fast or why, but the struggle is real now, Norse may have to die out.

Question: Since my Kings ancestor reformed the Germanic religion and now my King owns the Fylik title (head of religion) if i want to convert to Catholicism (by taking the convert to attackers religion decision) I need to give that title away that right? (My character is not zealous btw). I'm asking because, one this is a ironman game and two because I don't want to give away the title if its not going to help.

I've never played as Germanic, so I'm not quite sure what would happen or what would be needed with that title.

        Re: Crusader Kings II

I've actually restarted since my last post, played as same starting point though. The game played out much differently this time though.

        map in 1071 AD.

Started at earliest date(769?) as duchy of Pruenthia, but renamed it Prussia.
expanded west and south taking Polish, Behemian, and Pommerian lands. Kingdom of Lithuania formed before I was able to take their lands, but I was able to create the Kingdom of Prussia title. my starting duchy was part of De Jure Lithuania however, which let to several wars between us. mostly stale mates as our armies were identical in size. Between us, we were able to get The religious authority for Romuva high enough and I controled 3 holy sites, so I was able to reform Romuva pagan.

        current Religous map mode

Romuva spread to a few other nations. Finland, which much of their lands I did help with getting back from Sweden once they became Romuva. There were a few Russian nations that became Romuva, but that changed.

for a while it was just Prussia and Lithuania as Romuva, once my starting duchy became part of de jure Prussia, the wars against Lithuania ended. We had several Marriage alliances, for a very short time, a member of my dynasty was the King of Lithuania(never knew what happened, there was no war, he just went from King to duke instantly)

Finland was once controlled by the King of Lithuania, but at death it split, I believe it fell to another dynasty now.

only recently, there was a great holy war for Rus, which I ended up winning. I had planned on giving it away to a family member, but after the war, I actually had enough Prestige to create an Empire, so I went ahead and did that. my empire is split, but currently Lithuania is an Ally as is Finland. so it's not too bad.

Ruthenia is the biggest threat currently. they are still unreformed Slavic pagan. They may be busy with that Purple blob though.

Sweden has been flipping between Germanic and catholic, so they have been fracturing. they once own all of Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Umayyad has been going into France, then driven out, then comes back. mostly because of all the in-fighting there. no Karlings in charge now I believe, at least at the king level. West Francia is now France, although they are not currently on the map.

if you look back at the religous map, that reb to the east is Hindu, they are become very huge and spread into northern Russia.

I'm hoping to eventually integrate Lithuania into my Empire at some point.

So has anybody played the Game of Thrones Mod for this game? It is fantastic. Anybody who loves the lore of A Song of Ice and Fire will love this. I've wasted hours already lol. Really fun addition to a very solid game. Here's a link with info on the Mod: CK2 GoT Mod

                Re: Crusader Kings II

got this game because I was looking for a GoT RTS in the wake of season 7 starting, but have been playing the base game mainly as I figure out how to play. This might be the deepest strategy game I've ever played. Difficult to pick up and play, but once you figure out how it works it is incredibly addictive!

Yesterday, I started a game in 1067 as King Aed of the Petty Kingdom in Connachta (a west coast province of Ireland). To set the stage, my adult son and heir had given me two young legitimate grandsons, but he was unmarried - presumably his wife died before the game starts. I was able to arrange a marriage between him and the third daughter to the King Harold of the Norge (Norway). This forged a significant alliance because King Harold is pressing a claim on the Kingdom of England currently - and if he were able to secure me the kingdom of Ireland, he would essentially have England surrounded on both sides.

I spent much of the three hours I played scheming to press my de jure claim in Breifne, a small province to the east. I have a strong claim there, but sadly, my levies are *just* a bit smaller than their King Aed's (the leader of Breifne happens to have the same name as my current character).

In the meantime, my new daughter-in-law came onto me, I declined because I don't want to have my somewhat weak succession line be threatened. Then a year later, I uncovered her plot to have me assassinated..... bitches be crazy!! Under normal circumstances, I would have locked her in a cell for the rest of her days, but because she is the key to my critical alliance with the Norge, I just attempted to confront her to end her plot and succeeded.

Back to Breifne - since I don't have the numbers to take Breifne by force at the moment, I have had to resort to undermining the lesser King Aed by way of my council. I had my Spymaster build a spy network there and my Chancellor sowing dissent between Aed and his vassals there, hoping to reduce his vassal levies. At home, my Marshall is training the troops, and I've sent my Court Chaplin to Rome to improve relations with the Pope.

On Breifne's succession line - The lesser of the Aed's began at 30 years old, unmarried with no children. His heir would be his 41-year old nephew, who had two adult sons himself. After a little while, Aed took a 19-year-old wife. Wanting to disrupt his line of succession, I took note of my superior State Intrigue score, and plotted to kill him before he had any heirs to his throne. To bolster my chances, I was able to buy the allegiance of the lesser Aed's spymaster, and within two weeks, he was dead. His own spymaster had aquired a poisonous viper which was what killed him. The merchant who sold him the snake blabbed after the assassination, however - to my surprise - Aed's nephew didn't seem to care. He kept the Spymaster that murdered his uncle on his court, apparently thankful to see his opportunity to rule. He even expressed interest in improving our diplomatic relations immediately following the assassination.

Shortly after, I hired Aed's murderer as my own Spymaster - his Intrigue score was 3 points higher than my other Spymaster, and he liked me a great deal. Removing him from Breifne's court also reduced their state intrigue score to just 1/3 of what mine is now.

Typhoid is now going through Breifne, and it has killed Aed's Nephew's oldest son and heir - leaving him with just the one son, his 23-year-old novice Spymaster. The time has come for me to press my claim. I tried to offer Aed's nephew a vassalage, so I could lay peaceful claim to the province and take one step closer to being the King of Ireland, but that didn't work. I simultaneously began a plot to kill his son and lone heir, and declared war. His levies stand at about 1500, while mine stand at 1400, so I will not go on the offensive just yet. I have called my allies to my side, and will wait for the Norge to arrive in Ireland before beginning the assault and pursuing what is rightfully mine.
