They certainly could. I'm more on the pessimistic side of things and don't expect it though, haha. Just like I feel like they could update the AI after release and make them more of what I was hoping for in previous posts, but I also doubt they really do that either.

This team has been so hush-hush with a lot of things around this game that I still am struggling to figure out what their overall vision is for the game. Are they completely satisfied with a general exploration game that has small aspects of other genres like we're getting now, or do they really have their sights set on something much bigger down the road?

I'll probably pre-order this soon to support them and hope that this isn't something I play for 10 hours then never again, but I wish I knew more of what their goal was with the game. If I knew they were wanting to really expand the game if it had success and were going to add in features I want to see like Alien races exploring on their own, claiming land, getting into wars, etc. then I would've already pre-ordered this long ago, but their secrecy has put me off some, but I am beginning to break just because I love space and exploration so much.

But that's just not the type of game they are or ever were going for. That would make it more of an action-adventure game and its been said many times this is primarily an exploration-type game. If you were battling other races for land or having gun play, that's more like a Civilization or Mass Effect type game.

I'm actually glad it won't have that stuff.

I don't want to main focus to be any of that stuff, I just think it could add to the game to see the AI "live" on their own instead of being static as it appears they are. If they're exploring, settling, creating new travel/trade routes, then exploring becomes even better because everything you discover is truly going to be dynamic and the game universe will really take on a life of its own and create its very own lore.

I'm not wanting a focus on battling the other races and having them battle each other, I just would rather see them have that possibility over being static for the rest of time.

Okay, fair enough. But I do think other races use trade routes and stuff like that. At least that's what I got out of some of the videos. I also think I've heard you can get caught up in battles. But I'm not 100% certain on that one.

There are "trade routes", but it literally looks like they just have ships spawning and flying back and forth between destinations as a cosmetic item. You can steal their loot and get a wanted level for attacking them, but you're not actually causing anything else that affects the world.

As for getting caught in battles, I don't know about that. The closest thing I've seen to that is random AI pirates spawning, but they got decimated rather quickly when attempting to steal cargo.

It sucks we still know so little about this game 2 months from launch. I think they want to keep it that way too.

This is actually a brilliant marketing strategy for a new IP like this. Just give people enough to keep them wanting more. Be vague, but appeal to peoples curiosity. They will sell a ton of copies on curiosity alone.

Kind of expecting at the end of all of IGNs previews they'll say 'OK, so that's 80 hours of content .... and we never left 1 solar system. There are eleventy-billion of them, go and make your own adventures!'

I really wish it would be like that. I want this game to be absolutely amazing. My tone may sound a little negative in some posts, but I don't mean to come off that way.

This will be one of those games where you literally couldn't finish it 100%.
                    MLB: Texas Rangers
                    Soccer: FC Dallas, Fleetwood Town
                    NCAA: SMU, UTA
                    NFL: Dallas Cowboys
                    NHL: Dallas Stars
                    NBA: Dallas Mavericks

I don't think you're being negative at all. Just skeptical like we all are.

Is this the type of game that PC guys can break open and mod? Maybe someone makes a "realism mode" mod or something eventually?

                          Re: No Man's Sky

So I was just do some reading about the game from some various sites and there is some contradiction happening here. I've heard that we are exploring the "universe" which would imply multiple galaxies. Then I am seeing that we are exploring "the galaxy." So which is it?

I think we've all heard that the goal is to reach the center of the "universe." Which would imply outside of the galaxy. (there is no center of the universe by the way) Then I just read we are supposed to find the center of the "galaxy." This would imply in realistic terms that is, we should see a super massive black hole at the center. But then again there seems to be life on 700 degree planets.

Needless to say this is a little confusing. I would at least like to know what it is we are actually exploring before this game comes out.

I could have sworn I saw a video like a year ago or even earlier where the guy was jumping from galaxy to galaxy. I could be misremembering though

Or maybe I'm confusing myself. I tried finding the video and can't

What I'm confused about is, if you can just teleport galaxies, what makes it so hard to just... teleport to the center of the universe?

What I'm about to say might be really stupid and I apologize in advance if it is.

The impression I got back in the day was the purpose of exploration is to basically find clues as to where the "center" is and otherwise, without those clues, you're basically just going blind, wandering without a compass. Communicating with alien races and learning about what happened on inhabited planets helps you figure out where to go next trying to find the "center" or "where it all began." The resources you collect help your ship keep running and I think upgrading allows you to go deeper snd deeper

Again I'm mostly going off of videos and interviews I saw a long time ago, I haven't watched a lot of recent stuff

I'm confused as well, as the devs seem to be purposefully coy and mysteriously

                                Edit:

This can't be right as I'm reading that if you want to you can set off for the "center" anytime you like?
