    Re: No Man's Sky

I watched this and another game play video and I gotta say, it's got me even more interested.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I haven't been this excited for a non-sports game since I can remember.

That last video got me pretty pumped. I was excited before, but this might put a hurt on my Mariners franchise.

I am really really looking forward to this slow burn of a Space Opera I am about to embark upon.

I have waited for a science fiction game like this my entire life. It's looking like something special has been crafted here.

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I have a question

My understand is that the game, if you want it to be, could be "endless." That was back when I thought that you could hop between multiple galaxies that were all procedural and generated on the fly. So, it's not quite like that, right? We travel in one big galaxy but it has a finite number of places to explore?

Sorry if the question doesn't make sense. basically what I am trying to ask is can you explore forever or will you eventually run out of new planets?

Well I am not sure really what the game is going to be like. I was still under the impression that it was the whole Universe. But from comments that I have heard from the Developer, like 99% of the planets will never be discovered and the like, I don't see how it is not endless. Even if you eventually made it to the center of the Universe, do we even know that this is the "Endgame"?

I personally don't see anyway to actually finish this "game". I think people will just stop playing over the course of time. I would like to know who the first person is who makes it to the center of the Universe. I feel that this might be a ore daunting task than some people think it will be.

I mean it's "quintillions" finite, so it might as well be infinite.

Upon trying to search for your answer, I got in my smile for the day as well...

they alrrady gave a stat along the lines of if you went to a new planet every minute it would take you over a billion years to go to each one, so if you play the game for 500 hours you would see .000001 lol

In one of the vidoes, the developer played a "map" of how many systems one would pass to get to the center.

The thing was moving fast and I don't think he ever got there. He was kind of just showing how far the center is from the edge of the universe.

I'm not sure they even know how long it could realistically take to reach the center. It's the goal but will anyone actually get there? Will it have to take several real life years?

Did I misunderstand what was happening?

                      Is anything real?

If we reach the center, will we be looking into a mirror of ourselves?

I think there has been some confusion as to what we are actually exploring. I have heard we are exploring the "universe" which is literally everything and is expanding infinitely. But I also heard them say we are exploring a "galaxy," which would imply one galaxy upon billions in the universe. So not sure what is actually happening here.

                          Precisely.

What I thought was a "universe" (that never ends) initially I think is in fact basically one enormous "galaxy." It may be huge but there is a boundary eventually, you can travel from one end to the other. That's just my interpretation of what I've read recently.

For the record, I'm not complaining. Hope I'm not coming off the wrong way, I can't wait for this game, a, counting the days, and have felt that way for last couple years

They are definitely using the term interchangeably but in the end, I think most want to know how many planets are there and will I see them all?

Universe or galaxy. You won't. And that's damn impressive.

I'm looking forward to guys talk about their first planet. Someone here is going to start in some luxurious place with great resources and someone else is going to be cursing the heavens when their place is freaking lava that snows hail with predators the size of Godzilla (I really don't think it can be that bad). Then we will all laugh.

                            Can't wait.

Once we get our hands on this title, can any developer truly lock their gamers into a small map anymore?

Why can't I go past the trees or water?

I can see the next step being a game that has a story in a main continent or location but will randomly generate a world around you if you travel there. Every experience will truly be unique and tasks that are to be completed will generate in random locations across the globe.

                              Why not?

Kinda hard to tell a quality story....some games could use this strategy well, but with everything random it's hard to guarantee quality. Plus I worry about repetition of basic stuff...will exploration get old?
