Re: No Man's Sky
Serious question:
How long do you think we are expected to explore planets for? In other words, is the majority of time spent actually being on planets (like three or four gaming sessions on the same planet), or are we probably planet-jumping more often, landing, checking it out, and backing out (like three or four planets on the same gaming session)?
Interesting thing to ponder... actually living on a planet for a while, so to speak... versus the actual space exploration portion.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

The game is planets though, everything in between playing second fiddle as best I can tell.Comment

Lead developer has said the goal which I know you know. But how much time you spend on each planet depends on what you need or want to do there.
He said he's sure there will be someone that will like their initial planet so much they will decide to stay there and never leave, instead looking to search all over it, discovering all of its secrets and resources.
Though he did say there will be things you probably couldn't do on that planet without certain resources that only exist in other planets.
But I don't think there are any expectations. I'm still confused by how long the actual game is."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: No Man's Sky
Has there been any talk about multiplayer for this game? Not the murder, death, kill type, but some type of coop or something others have done in the same system that you could see. Would make for a nice E3 announcement if they added it besides the VR that I fully expect. Very intrigued, but still waiting to find out what the game is really about before throwing $60 at it.Comment

Re: No Man's Sky
No Man’s Sky is a procedurally generated game in which a 32 digit seed number originally determined the planets you will uncover. 2 to the power of this seed number will grant you billions of planets to explore, and if you explore one new planet every second of every day, you might see a repetition after 4,000 years or so.
However, now that No Man’s Sky is one of the most anticipated games of the new generation of console, Murray said the team is thinking of changing the seed number to 64 digits, creating 10 to the power of 19 number of possibilities. With this seed number, you might see a repetition once every 4 to 5 billion years, meaning you will have to search roughly the same amount of time that our own planet Earth has existed.
So again, not infinite. Just very, very, very large. Is some jerk gamer going to sue Hello Games for false advertising this time?Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I want to stay on my first planet for the whole month of June. I don't want to leave any stone unturned.
I can't wait the name all the animals, mine the ore, swim with the fish, etc.
Eventually, I want to set up a trade route, and befriend an alien species by learning their language.

JMO....... Lets say I want to be an explorer and I want to explore a planet I've spotted in the PICCI Quadrant.
Lets say the current technology will prevent me from exploring its harsh environments or travel there. I'm going to need a certain technology, or resources of equal value to obtain needed resources. Do I instead look for a trader to help craft something for me? Or build a hyper-drive for my ship? Do I join forces with an alley to help conquer an enemy who has materials I may need? Or, as possible payment for my assistance in battle against their enemy? This is what I hope can occur, which would be ideal.
Maybe they'll be a space casino and you'll find me at the blackjack table as a recourse.....
Ok Blzer, maybe that piece wasn't a serious answerComment

Re: No Man's Sky
In a bid to be a wide-ranging game, "No Man's Sky" is giving players an experience that is best enjoyed on its launch date. Let's look at five reasons why it totally makes sense to get your hands on this PlayStation 4 and PC adventure from day one.

This is a preview of an article you can read on our new website dedicated to virtual reality, Versions. /// Destructive treasure hunters like Nathan Drake and Lara Croft tumble through decadent crypts, dismantling rare artifacts in their wake. Their scrabbling work, however incidental, is the antithesis to the careful field of archaeology. Yet, in marketing materials they’re labeled both as explorers and, yes, archaeologists. It’s for reasons like this that I’ve found myself, as a student of ar
