Also, lawyers didn't ruin NCAA Football. If you're looking for someone to blame look in the direction of the NCAA/EA Sports. If you want people to be in your game you should pay them to do so.

*I'm not a lawyer and agree that most people in the US will not think of Sky News when they think of NMS. I think this may be different in the UK. Just wanted to try to help a few people understand what is an understandably complicated legal situation.
The US has far too many lawyers and the nation has been distorted as a result. NCAA football used random names. To assert a college athlete has a legal right to the number on his uniform is silly. The uniform belongs to the school and the number can be reassigned to any other player at the school's discretion.

The lawyers ruined it and the lawyers will walk away with the bulk of the money while the players barely get bus fare.

You can be bounty hunter, explorer, etc.

What is the goal? Accumulate wealth so you can upgrade your ship and be a bad hombre?

This game reminds me somewhat of a game called Elite from the 80's.

I think it was more than just the number on the uniform, I'm sure the physical attributes of the players in the game had a lot to do with it

I believe you can be all those things, yes.

As far as the goal, from everything we've been told the goal is to get to the center of the universe.

What's at the center of the universe? Front row seat at a live Beatles reunion?

That would be cool. I had front row seats once for the Stones in St Louis. They were rocking.

So this game is basically all solo, correct?

My buddy asked me if I was getting it, but if I do, it'll most certainly be for PC, while he'll be on PS4.

Pretty much. They said its possible you might run into another player, but not likely.

He wrote one shortly after the delay. This is a different one.

This game IMO will be exactly what I think it will be. A super slow burn deep space exploration game where I make up my own destiny, adventures and play the way I want to.

As long as the menu's and controls are intuitive, and the planets are varied (atmosphere, geography, seasons, animal and plant life) as well as a vast amount of alien races, this game should be a wonderful escape for me. There is no rush to finish it, because I don't think this is a game you ever will truly finish.

It will be just a different life in a different solar system where the universe is yours to explore.

Well said. I share the same feelings, as well. It harkens back to the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books, and the imagination of sci-fi space as a kid.

I sense those who are brought up on the modern 'hand holding' narrative of gaming (well post 16-bit era), etc., will balk at games that, *gasp*, relies on self role-play imaginative experiences.

The menu system looks almost identical from what was shown, to that of Destiny and the like, so that is a huge plus. Very nice user interface.
