    Re: Far Cry 4

There were a couple of cool main missions in FC4, but the majority of the story was kind of perplexing to me why Ajay would keep helping the people he was helping.

The story makes more sense if you just sit there at the table and wait for Pagan Min to come back.

And I have some more pretty pictures:

I fired up the game for the first time this morning, so it had to update first. Minus not being able to connect to PSN, Uplay (fine by me) or play the Campaign Online, Ive been able to play Campaign Offline just fine. Infact I just finished a minute ago after playing for an hour so.

Thanks i just got it to work. Had to let in run for a few minutes trying to log in, the when it failed choose off line play and it worked.

PS A small rant: I am getting real tired of paying $60 dollars for games and not getting to use all of the features I bought the game for. I have been gaming since there have been games to play an I DO remember the days when patches did not exist at all and if a game was broke you were just out of luck unless you could fix it yourself. But this is getting completely and totally ridiculously unnecessary. At least in my opinion, which means nothing. rant ends.

              Re: Far Cry 4

Finished FC4 last night. I think the story is a shell of what FC3's was. I never really felt connected to anything I was doing and felt no emotional investment in anything I did. I was much more inclined to feel connected to the cause of the Rakyat in FC3 than I was the Golden Path in 4. Pagan Min as a villain was pretty weak compared to Vaas and Hoyt. There was no moment in FC4 with Min that compared even remotely to Vaas's "definition of insanity" scenes, or Hoyt's poker game scene. There was no real resolution in the story with regard to the decision I made at the end regarding Sabal's fate. The first time you get the option to alter your path by choosing between Sabal and Amita you're warned that your path is permanently altered by the decision, and yet later in the story you can jump sides at will. I only chose Amita's side once, one of the last missions in the game and I ended up aligned with her as far as the entire story goes at the end. The story is just a major let down for me.

I found it hard to put down the controller when going through FC3 the first time. I never had any problem putting the controller down in 4. The gameplay mechanics are great, but that doesn't mean as much to me if the glue (story) that holds it all together is deficient.

I really hope this game isn't an indicator that FC is going be taking the same watered down direction as Assassins Creed. Ubisoft is slipping.

That's a fear I've been feeling too. Ubisoft is just repeating the formula that worked on previous games and it's getting dull.

I am a big film buff, so I find almost every game to be bordering on a joke when it comes to story. Open world games to me are among the worst.

Besides Mass Effect 1 (and to a lesser extent it's sequels) I'm struggling to think about characters that actually have an emotional/psychological impact on me.

In my opinion, vidoegames often try too hard to be something they are not - ie films.... I watch characters on screen sometimes with awkward animation and B-level voice acting and wonder why they spend SO MUCH effort trying to make - essentially a film?

So to that end I disagree with you - FC3's story was mostly boring/irritating non-entertainment. I can see where there must be SOME story so in some cases they kind of need to do some of it, but in the end I want to skip it and don't care about the loser party-goer friend in FC3 and can't suspend my disbelief to accept a drunk college student becomes the best action hero the world has ever seen - instead 99% of my game time in the 1st person view "I" am exploring and shooting, not AJAY or whatever the hell his unimportant name is... So to that end, in my opinion of course, FC4 is far and away a better gaming experience than FC3. The travel additions such as the buzzard and grapple have made me do far less fast travelling and more time exploring the world they have created. So in that sense, for me at least, it is a much better game and has achieved that goal of being a great game more so that it's prequel.

I think they're about even to be honest. FC3 does better with characters and story, but FC4 cranks up the crazy for random encounters and aggressive wildlife. Both maps are gorgeous, but FC4's feels alive and it feels huge both vertically and horizontally.

I see where you're coming from. But we do the same thing too with action films, since we're comparing an action/adventure game to film. We suspend disbelief to a very large extent when taking in these films. I can't think of an action film in the last 30 years that isn't so over the top it could never happen. We love films like Taken, when the idea of a CIA agent in his late 50's/early 60's is physically overpowering gangs full of trained guys 30+ years his junior in hand to hand combat is not believable. Any Arnold movie. Take your pick. Some of the most acclaimed action films of all time have some of the worst dialogue and acting in general. And some games have really well done dialogue and voice acting (The Last of US being a prime example, or Vaas in FC3 IMO). So for me, suspending disbelief in games isn't any more difficult than when watching the type of genre films they can best be compared to.

Different strokes for different folks. I place a strong emphasis on story in my games. That's just me.

Have never played any in the Far Cry series and decided to start with this one. Gamefly had a deal for 1$ for the first month to get me back. So i'm wondering is there a lot of hours that can be had in this game? Is it in the GTA type of sandbox game? If so I may send it back and buy it when it's cheaper and take my time and enjoy it.

Yes tons of hours Imo. It's a huge game world and especially since you haven't played any of them before, it will be even more hours for you,at least that's how it's been for me.
I'd say if you like this type of game play, just go ahead and pick this one up!!

How does FC2 compare to 3 and 4? I bought the Far Cry collection on PS3 mainly so I can play through FC3 again and because I never got around to getting Blood Dragon. It also has FC2 included so that's a bonus to me.

I picked up FC2 for like ten bucks a few years ago when I was waiting for FC3 to come out. It's the same idea - you're dropped into an exotic wildlife infested area with some type of civil conflict. However in this one there are no outposts to capture, you can only fast travel to 3 or 4 different locations, and getting anywhere is ridiculously tough because anyone you see on the road will likely just open fire on you.

I never made it that far in FC2, just wasn't a great game overall IMO.

I tried the 5 on 5 battles of kyrat last night and actually really enjoyed it besides 1 thing, is there a way to get into a public game where you bring your friends before hand? I had to get into a game and invite them but then it autobalances teams so we all couldn't be on the same team or switch. Can you party up like cod then search for a game?
