Game has consumed a ton of my gaming time and still does. Game is addicting. Here is a clip I took of a pretty nice headshot to a raider:

Yeah same here, though I did manage to pull myself away for awhile yesterday to try out the hockey mode in Rocket League. This game will most likely keep me occupied until March when The Division drops, that one sounds amazing!

        What a game. Just wow...

A few questions for a Fallout Newbie:

Weapons/Armor. I'm about 8 hours into the game and at level 9. I JUST went to Diamond City for the first time last night. Got Piper as a companion which is cool. My question is are the settlement things all "side quests" and then Diamond city the "main story".

I am having a really hard time just keeping track of all the stuff there is. I haven't found but 1 "legendary" enemy I think and it was a bug. Is this normal? I haven't really found any new exciting guns and such yet. Are those further along in the main story?

Assigning jobs. I'm building up sanctuary but I can't seem to figure out how to assign people to do things? Do you have to be in the "building mode" and then select them. Every time I just talk to someone they either don't give me any options, or just want to trade stuff.

This is by far the most expansive game I've ever played. I just feel like its so hard to know if I'm doing the right thing, unlocking and discovering the right equipment. Played Far Cry, GTA before but they can't compare the complexity of this game.

Last but not least: The map really sucks. I hate having to go into the pip boy to see how far something is. The onscreen map tells you so little.

Thanks for any and all advice! I'm officially hooked

yes you have to be in workshop mode to assign settlers jobs.

if you want more legendary attackers bump the difficulty up a bit and you will notice a difference.
on normal it takes a while to start getting them.

as far as knowing what to do i would just explore and explore some more. after some time you will get the direction of main quests vs side quests and faction quests. i'm pretty much at a cross road as far as the main quest goes but i 'm still enjoying all the stuff there is to do so i'm not committing to main quest just yet. i just hit level 40.

              1) As far as I can tell, settlements is a side thing and not required to finish the main story. They do come in handy especially when you set up supply lines between settlements.

              2) Legendary gear drops at a higher rate as you raise the difficulty level. I started out on the middle difficulty and had found my first just a few hours into the game. What difficulty you rolling with?

              3) You have to be in the workshop mode to assign people, hover over them and press the action button, then hover over the task you want to assign, it should say ASSIGN at that point with a button to press. Shortly after pressing a button it will come up with a confirmation message.

              4) I agree, the map does not do a very good job of telling you where things are. You have to move the cursor around the multitude of open locations to find what you want. However, if it's main story or side quest related, you can have it show you the way point of your next task on the map.

              Hope this info helps!

My best advice is don't even try to keep things organized or tracking things. Just play. Wander around, do quests you've found, etc. Even as an Elder Scrolls/Fallout vet myself, I try to go into these games and do things in a somewhat structured way, but I always get overwhelmed and just start doing whatever.

I'm a level 19 I believe, and I haven't even stepped foot in Diamond City yet. I think I only have like 5 active quests right now, and the ones I have completed were just basic start of the game quests. I get way too caught up every time I play exploring some new set of buildings I come across.

And compared to Fallout 3/NV, this game has a ridiculous amount of stuff to explore. I get to a small city, and I spend literally 3-4 hours just scavenging all the buildings. I'm a stickler for exploring an area to the fullest so I can find what I can before I move on. In terms of better weapons, I've found some really awesome stuff just exploring. Like I said, haven't done many quests, so you don't get cool new weapons by just doing quests. You come across them as you just explore and kill enemies.

But to answer your question, I think the Diamond City quest follows the main quest. I sort of wish they would have an icon next to each quest that shows what faction the quest is part of, sort of like they did in Skyrim. Helped keep thing straight in terms of what you're doing.

The comments I got were hilarious.

Awesome feedback guys. Playing on Normal, and dying like crazy haha. Just got the hang of the VATS system which has helped slow those raider rushes down for me.

What a ride this game is. The roommates keep hounding me to play NBA/FIFA, but I can't even touch another game after 2 days with this. Sucks because I usually have to wait until they head to bed to really sink my teeth in late night. Works been a real pain the last few days.

Haha, I feel your pain man! I have died plenty as well! But I am getting smarter at how I approach certain situations. About a week in to playing I raised my difficulty setting to very hard, it's definitely more of a challenge but the legendary drops have been raining down in buckets it seems ever since lol. I have some pretty bad a$$ weapons modded up now, and every piece of armor has some kind of bonus perk associated with them.

Our play styles are very similar. I've explored way more than I've quested. The only thing that got me advance to Diamond City is having maxed out my companions approval and getting their perks. I needed others to work with.

The only thing I'll add on finding better weapons, enemies start carrying better weapons as you level up so eventually you'll upgrade just by looting bodies. Things in most containers are random but items in the world are set. That means there are certain spots while exploring where a specific gun type can always be found. A certain roof top will have a hunting rifle near a skeleton, a certain shack will always have an assault rifle propped in the corner. Things like that. So if you explore enough you'll stumble on upgrades too.

Is there a way to see if I've got their perks in-game? I lose track of that stuff. I know for sure I maxed out with Piper, because she's with me constantly, but the others that I've used, I'm not positive about.

There is a perk tab in the pip boy. Under data maybe? Im just not sure if it shows the perks you get from companions.
