Re: Assasins Creed Unity
I'm probably going to take you guys advice and wait a couple of days before buying a new releases game. The same could be said about new console as well. I use to do this with Madden after the game became the same every year and so far i'm glad i decided to wait until this years version.San Francisco Giants

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
I read that article last night and disagree with the majority of it.If there's a review embargo till after a game is released, major red flag. Ubi is the new EA.
1) Watch Dogs being "downgraded" is such crap because anyone who knows anything about video games knows that nearly every trailer and demo you see is running off a high end PowerPC. Even Batman Arkham Knight from this past E3 was running off the same. Gamers should know this already as it's been done for generations. Personally, I think the game looked great and the shootouts were awesome. Visually, it's the last thing that was wrong with Watch Dogs
2) Watch Dogs was a solid 8/10 in my opinion and definitely needs some adjustments for the sequel but what hurt it the most was it being overhyped. Ubisoft should just shut up and let the games speak for themselves when released. Of course, it doesn't help matters when every gaming site is hyping it up to unreachable levels.
3) Stupid answer to why women assassins aren't in Unity but seriously, who the hell cares? The franchise has only been male every time except for Liberation and Aveline character wasn't exactly great so in regards to why there's no women assassins, it's for the same reason there's few games that have women lead characters...it's because gamers don't want to play as women plain and simple. This will never change and the media and outside sources need to stop pushing this crap because when something is forced, it will only make the game worse as a result.
4) Parity - this should have just been avoided by Ubisoft. I wouldn't have said anything. Would have just announced 900p/30fps and leave it at that. With that said, im not a visual nut so I don't really care and considering the other problems with Unity, 1080p/60fps wasn't exactly going to make those more serious problems go away.
5) Review embargo. Yeah, I read that other article about why it's done and yeah, it's not exactly being honest with gamers but at the same time, in order to get the game for free, websites agree to the embargo which quite honestly, is worse than what the publisher is doing. Websites should pay for the games just like consumers but get it two weeks early so they can review the game fairly as anyone who's just paid $60 for a game will be more critical but at the same time, would be a lot more open about the entire game. Either way, review embargos are bad period but as long as websites get the games for free, I don't see it changing. Of course, in the end, the only review that should matter to anyone is their own, period.
6) Regarding the micro-transactions and companion app, I agree 100% but to be perfectly honest, neither should be in the game to begin with or any game for that matter unless it's a free to play game centered around micro-transactions. Personally, I can ignore the micro-transactions but the locked treasure chests really pisses me off but it just means that when I finally do play Unity, I won't have to go nuts trying to complete the game 100%.
7) Far Cry 4 being the same as Far Cry 3 is something I strongly disagree with simply because it's not. There's a lot of new stuff, characters, location, etc. The reason people think that it's the same is because the basics are the same as in Far Cry 3 but to me, that's a good thing because when you change things (like the climbing and running in Unity) it usually turns out worse. I loved Far Cry 3 and it was my 2012 game of the year and that's saying something since the FPS genre is my least favorite genre but the game was awesome. I'm expecting Far Cry 4 to be like Far Cry 3 is the majority of ways but blown up to include more and allow you to do more which is 100% okay with me. Already pre-ordered and will be picking up Monday night or Tuesday depending on work. Don't see Far Cry being an annual release.
8) As for the "setup" in Ubisoft games, personally I enjoy the setup. Yeah, it's all similar but that doesn't mean it's bad. I only started AC with Black Flag and Far Cry with 3 so maybe, it's because I haven't played all of them but even then, I enjoy the setup to it and hope it stays for the most part the same. The stuff I would change is making co-op and multi-player separate from the single player storyline as too many developers and publishers are doing this and im not a fan of it at all. But as far as the hunting, upgrading, outposts, etc. are concerned, bring them on!!!
As for the Unity map, yeah, that looks way too cluttered and crowded but what the article doesn't tell you is that you can scroll through the items that you want as opposed to seeing them all on the map. The 3D affect when playing is annoying but im pretty sure you can turn that off. Personally, I always have "all items" listed but the option is there for those who only want to see certain icons on the map.
While Ubisoft isn't perfect, they haven't really pissed me off yet to where im not buying their games. Since 2010, they have given me my game of the year and a lot of good other solid games. While I won't be playing Unity for a while since im playing Rogue first, I doubt that it's as bad as reviewers and sites are making it out to be.
Thegamescabin.com rated Unity an 8.8/10 and the guy bought his own personal copy so if anything, that's probably one of the better reviews out there. And on a related note, I did play two memories in Unity and while there's some negatives, the big one of frame rate isn't one of them.
In the end, im still hyped for Far Cry 4, enjoying Rogue very much and still have to see if Unity is as bad as those so called reviewers say it is. Ubisoft is STILL my go to company and my favorite developer and publisher. A few screw ups (most of which are minor to non-existent to me) isn't going to change my opinion of them. And yeah, im still awaiting The Division and Siege.Comment

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
I have had one instance of slowdown and one major graphics glitch and that's it. Guess I have been lucky. Still not in love with game and I fear once FC4 and DA come out on Tuesday that this game will be put on the shelf for a long long time.

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
Nice post! The real question is who is not screwing up lately. Seems like so many games are "not finished" when they release. I know it will never happen but wish most of these game were not yearly releases.I read that article last night and disagree with the majority of it.

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
1) Whether or not this a familiar practice - its downgrade was pretty significant and that form of marketing is setting the gamer up for disappointment. Its not hard to understand why people were upset over it.
2) Watch Dogs was boring and the on foot controls were clunky to me. The concepts were interesting, but the game itself wasn't.
3) You know there are female gamers right? I play through RGPs all the time with female characters. Honestly, its not that hard to reskin a character. Its not just the "outside" media and critics pushing in on some all-boy gamer club. There is an increasing number of female gamers that obviously want to be represented on the screen in positive ways.
4) They basically set themselves up with the parity crap and made it even worse by releasing a game with widespread problems.
7) I have faith in the FC guys largely in part to how diverse and enjoyable the main story missions were (the open world was fantastic) and Blood Dragon. Oh yeah, the director of FC also did Child of Light so I have faith in his vision. I just hope Ubi doesn't force them to milk it like they have AC. Legitimate concern.

haha that drinking game.
I did find the story to be un-inspring, and could have been a lot better than it was, and I believe the next WD will be better as they know they didn't live up to the hype.
Either way, I finished the story but what I really like in that game is the online hacking. I still play that multiple times a week ever since it's release.
Either way, I haven't lost faith in Ubisoft. They have been one of my fav. developers.Comment

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
Ubisoft need to be slapped for these crazy long load times in between missions and every time you die. That is unacceptable for current gen. Even last gen Assassin's Creed Rogue didn't have long load times. I am also not a fan of how they changed the controls. They should have kept them they always were.
I just finished I guess what you call the training missions and just unlocked Paris. Graphically the game looks good, very good during cut scenes. Far as during game play, even watered down, the game looks better then Rogue and Rogue looked pretty damn good for a last gen game.Comment
