Re: Assasins Creed Unity
If you are on PS4, make sure you installed them. The 2.0 update didn't allow me to install it immediately like before. Between the Ubisoft sign up, Pre-order bonuses, and Spin to win I had 10 or so packs that didn't install until I went to the Library screen and installed them one by one.Last edited by cdawg44; 11-13-2014, 04:55 PM."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
1) Personally, I don't think the so called "downgrade" was serious or major and here's why - if the game wasn't hyped up like it was, we most likely wouldn't even be having this discussion. This is also why I never ever over hype myself for any game. I get hyped and excited but not to where im setting myself up for a disappointment.1) Whether or not this a familiar practice - its downgrade was pretty significant and that form of marketing is setting the gamer up for disappointment. Its not hard to understand why people were upset over it.
2) Watch Dogs was boring and the on foot controls were clunky to me. The concepts were interesting, but the game itself wasn't.
3) You know there are female gamers right? I play through RGPs all the time with female characters. Honestly, its not that hard to reskin a character. Its not just the "outside" media and critics pushing in on some all-boy gamer club. There is an increasing number of female gamers that obviously want to be represented on the screen in positive ways.
4) They basically set themselves up with the parity crap and made it even worse by releasing a game with widespread problems.
7) I have faith in the FC guys largely in part to how diverse and enjoyable the main story missions were (the open world was fantastic) and Blood Dragon. Oh yeah, the director of FC also did Child of Light so I have faith in his vision. I just hope Ubi doesn't force them to milk it like they have AC. Legitimate concern.
2) Overall, I thought that Watch Dogs was a solid game. I actually liked and enjoyed the story but Aiden and majority of the characters were weak which hurt the story. The shooting and driving were great and good respectively. On foot, I thought the controls were the same as GTA which have always been clunky going back to GTA III on PS2. Absolutely loved the hacking especially when driving and hacking the steam pipes and the cars go flying and all the crashes were great. Music and sound was also great. Reasons why I rated the game an 8/10 was because of the weak characters, some of the missions were boring and while I did a lot of the side stuff, they just didn't do it for me like they did in AC IV: BF and FC 3...also, not being able to kill the guy in those side missions (forgot which one) was a negative and not being able to shoot while driving was another but I understand why they did that. Good solid game in my opinion and I honestly believe the sequel will be the AC II of the franchise.
3) Yeah, I do and im assuming you mean RPG's right? Sadly, the RPG genre is basically dead but that's a conversation for another time. Developers and publishers know that there's female gamers and yet, they STILL DON'T create female lead characters simply because they won't and don't sell. Bayonetta is the only good franchise that has a female lead and yet, it doesn't sell as good as it should. Personally, I prefer male characters simply because they fit in better in the majority of games because when it comes to fighting and shooting, let's face it, it's a guy thing, not a girl thing. In the end, I just don't think female lead characters sell regardless of it being geared towards male or female gamers.
4) Can't argue this but the funny thing is that there's reports that if you're offline, the frame rate problems rarely show up.
7) Agree 100%. And yeah, Child of Light was awesome.Comment

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
On memory 4 or 5. Frame rate issues usually for me happens when I'm climbing something. And there is no doubt that is happening, you move like you are in quick sand and you see screen tearing in different places. Usually lasts about 5 seconds. Not a fan of all the micro transactions in this game. Having to buy skills is LAME.
I do like they finally brought back heavy weapons, long weapons and single handed weapons, along with ranged weapons. But the whole dress up doll aspect of this game is a turn off. It wouldn't bother me if you didn't have to do it, but you have to in this game in order to give your character more health, eagle vision and stealth.
One thing for sure you will notice pretty quick is that the enemy AI combat strength is kicked up 4 notches from any previous AC games. The days of fighting groups of people are over. You will die pretty fast if you just TWO people attack you at once. I lost count how many times I been killed fighting just 2 people.
So in a way they made this game heavily geared towards tactics and careful planning. Ranged weapons are your friend big time in Unity. You can no longer just rambo your way to the target. Their guards will mow you down quick. One must make money, do side quests, etc in order to make money and make skill points. Money is needed for weapons and armor. Which I may say, there are a ton of options with at least half of them expensive as hell. Then you need to make skill points to buy skills. Which is LAME how some skills only become available to buy after certain missions. Because of this, Unity plays much like a RPG.
Story line so far, not feeling it. Maybe because I have to focus so much on making money and skill points and dressing up my character to keep him from being killed so easily. Or it simply can be because the story line so far anyway just isn't any good.
And for the life of me, this doesn't make sense what so ever, but Ubisoft going to Ubisoft
SpoilerSo your dad was an Assassin, killed by Shay in Rogue. A templar takes you in and raises you with his templar daughter that is the same age as you. Everybody know you are the son of an assassin, even the daughter. Templar guy gets murdered, then the assassin's finally come and recruit you after you are thrown in jail ? Even though they knew where you were all those years being raised by a templar ?
Why the hell didn't the templar who took you in not raise you as a templar just like he was raising his daughter as a templar ? That made no sense to me. Maybe the story line will reveal more later on in the game, but so far I thought that was very odd and unrealistic.Comment

Digging the game but they should not have released this yet. This game needs to cook longer. The framerate at times can be downright "BRUTAL" Had an instance last night and I have to turn it off.
Other than the framrate at times the game is really good.Last edited by Flightwhite24; 11-14-2014, 06:57 PM.The poster formerly know as "FLIGHTWHITE"Comment

The RPG genre is basically dead? Skyrim sold about a gazillion copies and the new Dragon's Age is about to be released and is getting good reviews and should sell very well. I'm playing it in advance on EA Access and the first character I chose to create was a female elf.3) Yeah, I do and im assuming you mean RPG's right? The Last Of Us had a brilliant female lead character in Ellie and although you played most of the time as Joel there were stretches during the game and in the DLC where you played as Ellie.
It's silly for Ubisoft to not at least provide the option of playing a female assassin.Last edited by Seahawk76; 11-14-2014, 08:41 AM.Comment

I will say Avaline was a great lead character in Liberation. It's a shame not a lot of people played it and it was so glitchy cause she was very well done."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
Well, its a catch 22 now isn't it? They don't create female protagonist games so of course their overall sales are going to be low, but the fact of the matter is that female gamers now comprise nearly 50% of the market. Those games that do feature a playable female protagonist typically have a marketing budget that is significantly less than normal - sometimes as low as 40% when compared to their male counterparts. Not being represented is really just laziness to me. Like other things UbiSoft has done lately their "too hard to program" line came back to bite them in the *** and for good reason.

Even still there are successful franchises such as Metroid and Tomb Raider. RE has had several playable female leads. So its not an impossible feat when given the chance. Even though Ellie wasn't the major playable character in Last of Us she was a fantastic character that drove the story and emotion of the game.
Of course you prefer male characters - you're a male. I enjoyed Mass Effect with a female lead. Saints Row was fun as hell running around with a prissy, upper class woman smearing **** all over walls and using a giant dildo as a baseball bat to people's faces. It adds a nice layer of diversity that really isn't hard to accomplish, but some companies unwillingness to do so just shows how backwards and stubborn they are to the changing demographic of the industry.
I'm not even going to touch the RPG genre is dead thing because that's just silliness.

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
I'm loving this game. They didn't change the formula much. It's the same vintage AC, just with better graphics and more NPCs on the screen at once, and im fine with that. Im only 22 percent through with the story, but im liking it so far.
I was hoping that I could finish it before GTA and Dragon Age come out, but that will be hard because there is so much to do.
Ive seen a few short framerate drops but nothing major. (X1)Comment

Man stuff is so damn expensive in Unity and acquiring money is a serious grind. In Rogue and Black Flag you could get money very fast and a ton of it. In Unity, nope.Comment

Re: Assasins Creed Unity
I agree with pretty much all of what you've said. I'm all for more female leads and great female characters. My only thing is when you have a game like Metal Gear Solid and people wanting a female option for Snake. I'd rather have a fully fleshed out character, cleverly written, than simply put in for the sake of putting in. Someone like the Steve(think that was his name) from ME3 seemed like a last minute addition and a caricature, especially when you have other solidly written characters in the game.Well, its a catch 22 now isn't it?
