    Re: Homefront: The Revolution (X1/PS4/PC)

Alcohol hit me a little too hard last night, so I just now got to start playing.

Frame rate? I've noticed it start to dip at times, but it's never been as bad as Lichdom Battle Mage is (which from my experience largely plays the entire game almost sub 30 FPS). I've so far had two instances, in my first hour (which isn't good, but hopefully patchable!).

Graphics and sounds? I'd say both are pretty good, some of the models are kind of meh, but in all it isn't horrible.

    Spoiler

The sounds are actually really good from what I've heard, the streets in civilian areas seem really crowded (audibly), but are filled probably akin to a Mass Effect hub world, there's people sprinkled about, but not a huge amount by any means.

I'll try to have more as I dig deeper, probably will wait until tomorrow night for anymore impressions given work and this is largely just a very basic impression, I haven't done much in terms of gameplay yet, some exploration, and there's already some signs that verticality will be a factor.

I'll just say that while I'm sounding positive, I'm just going to be cautiously optimistic as I start getting into the thick of it.

    Edit: PS4 Copy

I enjoyed the first one, but with some of the reviews and the backlog of games I already have, I think I'll wait for this one to get into the bargain bin before picking it up.

Whew! Was soooo tempted to get this pre ordered with Best Buy giving the $10 gift card, but with no review anywhere to be found I was starting to re-think ordering it and from what i'm reading, glad I passed.

I didn't know until today that it was part of the $10 gift card rewards from Best Buy until today. I would've bought just for the fact I liked the last one and the $10.

Oh well...maybe its better that I didn't know and therefore haven't purchased based on some of the reviews.

It wasn't part of the GCU $10 program. They were just giving you an actual $10 gift card for buying it.

Is that deal still going on?

Guess I'll go pick it up.

Don't think im getting it honestly.

You can watch one of my go to guys Centerstrain01's live stream he did earlier to see things like gunplay and stuff.

He usually plays games on hard and loves stealth aspects as well.

I just saw that there is no blind fire from behind cover in certain areas from his video. It's worth a watch to answer some of your own questions

I have my copy pre-ordered and will pick up Thursday after work and will try it out at some point this weekend. Wanted to go pick it up today but didn't have the chance to do so. I have seen all the reviews and scores and yeah, it's not good at all but for $38, im still going to give it a chance.

                        Re: Homefront: The Revolution (X1/PS4/PC)

So some more impressions after several hours.

In the present state, a high 5, low 6 is a good score. It is by no means a horrible game, but in the present state, frame rate issues are rather common, that alone would edge it closer to a seven if they could balance it out. The gun play is acceptable, it isn't anything special, but by no means the worst I've ever had.

I've had one bug, where I clipped through the environment and had to fast travel out to fix it. Otherwise I haven't had any bugs aside from frame rate sputters.

Most times, the drops are just a few FPS, occasionally more and very rarely it completely hangs for a few seconds, my hope is that this will be patched out sooner than later, other games had frame rate issues and they were fairly quickly fixed (not by this developer specifically, in general.)

Again, it's in my wheelhouse, so I am enjoying it in general. $30-$40 would definitely be a fair price range, I have about four hours in, and I'm still not too far in, spent a lot of time liberating the opening area.

Graphics continue to be hit and miss, the game has some beautiful lighting effects, some models are good and some environments are good, other times they are really poor.

Really sad, this game with another few months of development to iron out the kinks could've reviewed around a 7-8, as opposed to a 4-6, and in terms of sales, that difference is huge.

                        TL;DR

Game is at most a rent at the moment unless you can find it for about $30, in the present state. Has potential with patches, but cannot justify $60 on a game that needs some patchwork to be a smooth experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I was going to pick up at Best Buy on Friday along with Uncharted 4 due to the $10 gift card, but I think I'll pass and wait for the bargain bin as I was going to originally.

Definitely can't blame you. Once it gets patched, (if it does) it'll be in a lot better shape, but if frame rate issues really bother you (to an extent it does bother me, but like I said this type of game is one I enjoy) you won't get much if any enjoyment out of this game in present.
