Yeah I just picked this up too.. Never played the Souls games.. and I'm loving it so far. I've died a TON, but I'm getting better. I can't wait to meet that first boss. I'm also really looking forward to finding some armor (if there is any..lol) and trying out a new weapon or two. Such a different type of game than I normally play..

Re: Bloodborne
Jeez. I don't mind saving manually but having to find/light a lamp and the short cuts just to save progress is ridiculous. Never played any of the Souls games whatsoever and it's the first time im actually playing Bloodborne since I tried it out at launch.
Having to go through all the enemies I defeated already repeatedly if I die and having to do what's required in order to save the progress im making isn't a good thing to get newbies like me into the game. Camera, controls and combat isn't helping me either.
What's worse is that I realize that there's no in-game manual or controller configuration diagram which is horrible especially when there's no manual/booklet nowadays. UGH.
If that isn't your cup of tea then the game probably just isn't for you (and for the record, there isn't anything at all wrong with that). I'm definitely enjoying the game and have a great appreciation for what the devs have done. For what they want this game to be they've done a brilliant job. That certainly doesn't mean I love it as much as 42 or Extreme but it also doesn't mean the devs should change the formula to suit my needs; it's crafted perfectly for the crowd it's meant for.
To be honest, what has worked best for me is this: I play almost non-stop for a week or two then have to take a break for a week or to so I don't get too frustrated. After a little time off I get the itch to jump back in and, when I do, things just seem to "click" and I get past the area/boss where I was stuck.Last edited by DickDalewood; 01-05-2016, 09:23 AM.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
Bingo. The biggest adjustment for anyone is no hand holding. No tutorial, no map, no "go here" instructions. You just learn as you go. Most satisfying game I've ever played because of that. When you beat a boss you get the sense of accomplishment that no other game has given me in a long long time.

Fast foward to the chalice dungeons and we meet again and i tear this thing a new one first try which shocked me because he was so hard and it just went to show how much better i had gotten from our previous encounter. Things like that make a great game imo when you can visibly see the difference as your skill goes up. Its very rewarding.Comment

I'm back into Bloodborne in a big way...just FINALLY finished off Shadow of Yharnam after about 10 times. I've definitely had enough of the Forgotten Woods but damn did that feel good to beat that boss.Comment

Took out out the hunter on the machine gun perch by shooting him off and assumed I had killed him. I was wrong and after a few deaths I did a little grinding and some fire paper he's dead. Felt good and I will check out the rest of the area tomorrow.MLB: Chicago Cubs

Re: Bloodborne
Last week started my 2nd playthrough, a skill build, and go the DLC finally. Level 70. These Old Hunters hit hard, wow.
Beat the first boss of the DLC on the 3rd try with a summoned NPC. Picked up the Beasthuner Saif as well, really great skill weapon. The L1 attack combos are amazing, it either pulls you closer to the action or gives you space."You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Re: Bloodborne
From Software games are games of repetition. You learn from repeating your steps. You're going to die....a lot. It's just the nature of it. The game is meant to be difficult, but rewarding.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
That's not the "problem" with Bloodborne, that's the whole point of Bloodborne. That doesn't mean it's a game for everyone, but to change that core formula changes what the game is completely.Comment

Re: Bloodborne
I beat the game twice and dlc twice. I am on my third playthrough and level 211 and still love this game.
I just beat Dark Souls 3 another awesome game and have already gotten close to halfway on second play through there.
Just love these games so much.

Re: Bloodborne
I'm still playing this game, slowly chugging towards my first platinum.
Finally cleared the chalice dungeons and killed the queen. Not a big fan of the chalices, and BLEEP the defiled chalice. That's all I will say. Every boss could one shot.....omg"You can not ensure success, but you can deserve it." - John Quincy Adams

Re: Bloodborne
This damn game. I played the crap out of it when it came out, beat it with a VERY poorly optimized build (even stats of basically everything), and never tried the DLC.
Well, I snagged it last week during the PSN sale ($20 for game and DLC), and it's sucked me right back in. I love the Souls games, and I played DS3 a LOT, but Bloodborne feels the most polished out of all of the FromSoft games. That, and the setting is right up my alley, so the game world keeps me coming back.
Anyways, I've started running a pure skill build to work toward the Rakuyo in the Old Hunters DLC, and I've been blowing through the game. Managed to kill the Cleric Beast, Papa G, and the Blood Starved Beast each on the first try with the Saw Spear. Working my way up to Vicar right now.
Is there a recommended level to enter the DLC area? I've read varying things online in that regard.Comment
