The gameplay looks pretty ho-hum. It's not pushing the envelope. Maybe it doesn't need to? Hopefully the mechanics that are there are rock-solid.

DOOM SnapMap has me super excited though. I absolutely loved TimeSplitters and its inclusion of its easy-to-use level editor, and this looks like a more powerful version of that.
My most anticipated release of the year outside of Uncharted 4. IMO, "not pushing the envelope" is the point. This is going back to the old school, continuous movement twitch gameplay that shooters started with and that Wolfenstein brought back to the limelight early this gen. Movement keeps you safe, your health doesn't regenerate, knowing your surroundings is key, etc. That game, btw, is the best FPS on either console... again IMO.

    So so excited for this.

Having seen more of the gameplay - and for unrelated reasons having played and studied the original Doom game a ton lately to figure out the what, how, and why of its game design and mechanics (the original still holds up incredibly well, by the way) - I completely understand what id Software is going for with this game, whereas I didn't when I originally made the "ho-hum" remark. I'm now super-jazzed to see how they've adapted that vision to the modern age.

The preorder went up on Amazon today, by the way. The game releases May 13, and the collector's edition comes with a 12" statue of the Revenant.

To be fair, I didn't realize you had made that comment on June of last year

I preordered that Collector's Edition about 20 minutes ago... way too cool not to!

Anyone ever played Far Cry 3 multiplayer online where we can play ranked pvp on custom maps which is community voted with a rotation called gold and silver maps? I know we can create custom maps on the upcoming doom game but I wonder if it will be ranked pvp like Far Cry 3 MP.

I just got a code to be in the closed beta. Let's see if it is any good.

I'm getting this game for the campaign but I would at least be interested to hear about the beta. I'll take anything I can't get at this point, lol... very excited for this to come out.
