The only FPS I would put ahead of it this gen is Wolfenstein (and its story DLC).

This game is incredible.

I have Wolfenstein sitting here unopened, but most definitely plan on jumping into it when I am done with DOOM's single player. Heard nothing but fantastic things about it, as well as The Old Blood which I also plan on getting soon too.

I also have Shadow Warrior I paid $7 for brand new (boxed version), that I heard was pretty fun as well. I enjoyed the original back in the day on the PC.

DOOM man, it just oozes with nostalgia, mixed with nice modern gen FPS elements, and I expect the same with Wolfenstein.

It's funny the other day I was asking for a good fps campaign and this releases the same day and I had no idea. Ask and you shall receive... I love it. Fast paced and gorey. And the sound is fantastic, wow. (PS4)

Can I just say this one thing... this game slaps all the haters in the face.

So many people were bashing this online through early gameplay videos, etc., and boy is this game so good. Worth every penny!

To be fair, I don't think Bethesda did a very good job showing it off prior to release. They focused to much on the multiplayer, which while not outright bad, does feel uninspiring and something that will be quickly forgotten.

The snippets of single player we got, until better looking videos starting coming out only a week before release, made it hard to get a good sense of anything. It looked like they were going for this edgy and serious DOOM and the focus on glory kills (melee) looked like something that would get old fast. Not the case when you play it. The campaign absolutely has some of the heart and spirit of classic DOOM and the glory kills work well and feed into the gameplay loop. Tongue-in-cheek humor and self-awareness are evident and immediately sold in the game's 10 minute intro.

Level design also didn't look to hot, but then you play the game and see glorious map layouts like this:

I would honestly say the exploration and platforming is almost every bit as fun as the combat, which is saying a lot.

I loved and beat both the most recent Wolf's, The New Order and Old Blood. Awesome gameplay experiences, then I moved on to Shadow Warrior another awesome game. Now I'll be grabbing Doom in the next couple weeks, I love me some old school shooter fun!

Yeah I own those and still need to dig into them. I'll grab Doom on sale eventually for the single player, multiplayer impressions absolutely demolished any desire to grab it day 1 even though I'm not a competitive MP gamer for the most part.

Loved Doom 3...one of my favs. And yes Wolfenstein The New Order and the Old Blood are awesome. Played them both. Fantastic shooters.

Oh you are in for a treat. I only played the first level and instantly was hooked (in which I heard it only gets better and better). The presentation in no nonsense! Reason I stopped, is I that I want to finish UC4 first as well. As soon as I am done, I am jumping right into DOOM.

I have Wolfenstein, TOB, and Shadow Warrior sitting here unopened to play when I am done with the DOOM single player as well. Old school shooters I grew up with in high-school/college, modernized, is gaming bliss for me right now.

Played the first level and man it's smooth. GTX 970 plays this on ultra smooth and the combat is incredibly flowing. It's an extreme far cry from Doom 3, but it's a great game, definitely thus far a solid 8.

Yeah it's more like the original Doom than Doom 3.

How do I put this lightly... **** multiplayer. Lol. This is one of the best FPS campaigns to grace a console in years and is worth every bit of your time and money.
