I'm not usually into post-apocalyptic zombie games so I passed on this the first time. After reading all the hype for this game, though, I finally decided to pick it up for the PS4 and I'm glad I did. I'm only a few hours into it but I'm totally hooked. It's got a very cinematic feel to it along with great graphics and very intense gameplay. I like the fact that there is strategy and stealth involved rather than simply blasting wave after wave of zombies.

Anyway I'm running through it the first time on Normal but I'm sure once I finish it I'll run through it again on a harder setting.

I've been watching a guy stream the multiplayer for a while now and it looks like a lot of fun. With shooters, I think prefer smaller battles like in TLOU as opposed to something like Battlefield. Nice to have something to look forward to once I finish up the game.

Well after saying "One more instance" a dozen or so times I just finished the game. I can't believe I never finished single player when I had this on the ps3. A game like this really showcases what kind of medium Video Games can be when it comes to story telling.

I'm on chapter four, right around the middle of it, on my Grounded play through. This might sound crazy but I think I am enjoying grounded more so than I enjoyed hard. It's still a little early for that though, as I have yet to face any truly difficult parts yet. I really like the limited resources on grounded, really makes everything you craft and every piece of ammo very important.

I've also become much better at the game thanks to the lack of Joel's targettinf/focus ability. I think I've died less so far than I did on hard at the same point of the game. It probably has something to so with knowing how vulnerable I am now and being extra careful. The new play through has made me realize a couple things I was doing wrong before. I always thought that it was either total ninja assassin or total Rambo. I've learned how you can run and hide after being spotted and still go for stealth kills/sneaking around if you just law low and are careful.

I also find myself enjoying the story and interactions a little more this time through as I can relax a little bit more knowing what to expect.

I still haven't touched the Left Behind or muktiplayer combat yet. Definitely can see myself getting 100+ hours out of this game easily. One of the best purchases I've made this gen, by far.

Any thoughts on the gore? Am I just not noticing limbs coming off?

There is man. Trust me. I have seen limbs blown off. I had a headshot execution that blew this girls head off. Check it at the 6:49 - 6:53 mark...

I completely agree with everything you said jare. Grounded takes a completely different approach than normal. Patience and distraction are key, I've actually done better on certain levels because of this approach. I try my hardest not to use my guns because of the limited resources it adds another layer of strategy. Unfortunately there are times when I have no choice.

I found myself not using bricks or bottles very often on hard, on grounded they have proven to be very valuable.

Took me 13 Hours to finish. Only died 15 times and I think a couple of those times were getting caught because I didn't just run.

Trying to decide whether to do a Normal+ playthrough with some things turned off before going to Grounded or if I should just start on Grounded now.

Do not view this video if you have not beat the game. This is just a persons analysis, a player who has put massive hours into the game. He shares his views and a few things that maybe you missed when you played through. Hopefully you guys enjoy this video as well.

Also I said a few posts back that grounded wasn't hard. I lied. I think I stopped trying to be so tactical with next gen since I had beat the game before. I ate some humble pie and it's getting easier but still difficult. I just beat the hotel basement and advanced a little ways.

Man, you are good with the hunting rifle. Any tips? What perks do you like best? I can't remember how I rolled on PS3.


Not sure if I will play through this again. I usually don't and I have tried, just not into it this time around. Might just play strictly MP.

Nice link, I am going through the old ps3 thread reading people's thoughts from back when everyone first beat the game. I definitely am interested in hearing different things that people got from the game and the ending especially.

The hotel basement is not a part I am looking forward to on grounded. I'm getting pretty close to that point though

This game might be the strongest blow yet to the "videgames aren't art" argument.

And, holy cow, a Photo Mode like this one should be standard in EVERY PS4 game going forward. It can be just as much fun as the story itself.

I pick a random class each week, so I don't have any silver bullets in terms of perks, whatever the random gods give me. Just use listen mode a lot would be my best advice.
