    Just Cause 3 (PC/PS4/XB1)

Game Informer December Cover Revealed – Just Cause 3

It’s been more than four long years since Swedish developer Avalanche Studios released the outrageous open-world game Just Cause 2. Players gravitated to gunfights atop moving vehicles, the versatile parachute, and the innovative tether that could link nearly any two objects, humans, or a combination of the two. The 400-square-mile world provided the ideal backdrop for players to go nuts, with many players hitting the 100-hour mark to earn 100-percent completion or to simply goof around with the wild physics. The mod and YouTube community kept interest in the game alive for years after launch and eventually pushed sales to more than six million units.

In 2015, the beloved series returns with Just Cause 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. We got the chance to be the first people outside of the studio to play not just 10 or 20 minutes, but several hours of the game, set in a fictional Mediterranean archipelago. The time flew by as we tried out the vastly improved parachute and grapple mechanics, terrorized the latest dictator’s well-defended bases, and soared through the sky with the all-new wingsuit. Just Cause has never played this smoothly, and as you’ll see in the cover story launching digitally today, it’s never looked this good.

Following last week's rumours and speculation, we also wanted to take the opportunity to address a few misconceptions. Those leaked screenshots were taken from an ancient version of Just Cause 3. Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models. Those leaked screenshots show aspects of that process, and in no way reflect the game we are making today.

To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.

Does that mean we'll release the game and call it quits? Nope. Beyond launch, we are likely to look into DLC packs and items as part of our ambition to support Just Cause 3 and its players for many years to come, but until that time we’re completely focused on making the best Just Cause game we possibly can. Rest assured it will be a huge, fully packed and extremely rewarding experience right out of the gate.

We can't wait to see your reactions to what we've created. Just Cause 3 truly represents the next generation of chaotic sandbox fun. But just like real sandboxes, ours doesn't really come to life until it's populated by crazy kids refusing to let go of the red barrel as it's shooting across the sky about to explode in a sea of fire, and... Wait, where are we going with this again?

    Enjoy!
    Go Noles!!! >>----->

All I needed to see was the grappling hook and I'm in. I don't even think I played 10 missions in Just Cause 2, just spent all my time causing chaos by seeing what I could grapple hook together.

Oh...wowowowow! I just bought 2 several months ago and had a blast with it! I don't even have a next-gen console yet, and still I'm excited. All I can wish for is they add a bit of destruction to the game.
      My Specs:

      ZX Spectrum
      CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
      GPU: Monochrome display
      RAM: 48 KB
      OS: Sinclair BASIC

Great news here. Like Sandman, I never did missions. I just ran around causing as much mayhem as possible.

I loved Just Cause 2. Great open world game. My favorite moments is when Rico would parachute out of an airplane hit the side of a building and say, "sheesh." So much fun.

Exclusive Just Cause 3 Screens And Info

Avalanche's New York studio is ready to tackle the new installment of the highly explosive, go-anywhere sandbox series Just Cause. Grappling ace Rico Rodriguez is back, but this time he's traveling to his come country, a fictional Mediterranean island nation called Medici to fight off another evil dictatorship. What will Rico do when he gets to Medici? As you can see in these screens, he'll blow a lot of stuff up.

Just Cause 3 takes place several years after the second entry. You might not be able to tell from these screens, but Rico has been significantly aged since his last outing. Now he’s returned to Medici in order to fight General Di Ravello who has set up an oppressive regime in his backyard. As you can see in this screen, Rico will get a lot of height during the game, thanks to a grapple mechanic that allows him to hook onto nearly any object, including enemies and passing aircraft. A new wing suit allows Rico to reach untold new speeds while free falling.

Just Cause has always been about crazy explosive action, and Just Cause 3 is no exception. Avalanche Studios has spent a significant amount of time retooling the game’s controls, which now feel a lot tighter. Several ex-members of the Burnout team have also worked to make sure that the vehicle handling is a lot more fun, which is something the series has needed for some time.

We didn’t get much of a look at any of the main story missions, but Avalanche did let us tool around the environments and explore Just Cause 3’s emergent gameplay. The game features a 400 square mile map, and the team wants to let players explore any of the three main areas from the very beginning. Throughout this journey players will attack several enemy bases and destroy propaganda billboards, statues, loudspeakers before installing their own forces in the town. Once Rico “owns” these towns, he can use them to fast travel, lay low and dissipate heat, or save vehicles that he can then call in as a supply drop later on.

                It looks awesome.

I'm in the same boat with Just Cause 2. I didn't play much of the story, but the world itself was huge and had a lot to explore. It was also extremely easy to upload game footage from the game.

as you can tell from my Avatar I was a big fan of JC2. The world was Huge yet it was very polished for a open World game. I am expecting it to be Awesome.

Looks fun. Avalanche is also developing the Mad Maxx game out in Sept. I'm hoping that the games are not too similar, but my bet is Just Cause 3 has Mad Maxx car combat but is just a more diverse game with air combat and other things. We'll see.

Looks just as ridiculous as 2. As long as the grappling hook returns I'm there day one.

10 Features from the Gameplay Reveal

                              1. The Wingsuit:
The perfect complement to his trademark parachute and grapple hook, the all-new Wingsuit completes the trifecta of traversal that make Rico the most dynamic action hero in gaming. The Wingsuit allows Rico to swoop across Medici at breakneck speeds, using the grapple to slingshot through tunnels and caves, under bridges and down mountainsides.

                              2. Multi-tether:
Rico’s grapple has taken a huge step forward, with one of the biggest new features being the ability to tether up to 5 things together in the world, taking the creative destruction that made Just Cause 2 such a success to a whole new level. Tether towers to the ground and haul them down, create car catapults, hang buses from helicopters and use them as battering rams to smash down statues – your imagination really is the only limit

                              3. MASSIVE Explosions:
When we say massive, we really do mean massive. Medici is a world that’s packed with petrol stations, huge fuel tanks and electrical substations that are just begging to go “boom”, with every explosion potentially triggering another and creating epic chains of destruction.

                              4. Cascading Destruction:
The new physics-based destruction system in Just Cause 3 means everything breaks, crumbles and falls apart in real-time, according to your actions – nothing is pre-canned. This makes the world as crazy and unpredictable as Rico himself, and means that no two playthroughs of the game will ever be the same.

                              5. The “Reeled Hang”:
Another of Rico’s new grapple techniques, Rico will adopt this unique position when hooking onto the underside of anything in the world, allowing him to unleash chaos from above, even when upside down!

                              6. Destructible Vegetation:
Now, even the plants and trees can’t escape Rico’s wrath. Blowing trees to bits with rockets, smashing through fences and vineyards in buses…even the downforce of low flying helicopter rotors will flatten beautiful fields of lavender or sunflowers.

                              7. Monorail trains:
Yes, that is a monorail train smashing its way through a bus. Monorails are a completely new addition to the Just Cause vehicle mix, bringing with it a wealth of creative opportunities for those who like to take a walk on the wild side.

                              8. Serious Miniguns:
There’s nothing “mini” about this bullet-spraying behemoth. When wielding this, Rico can carve through just about anything in his path, like a hot knife through butter.

                              9. Bridge Destruction:
Towers and gas tanks aren’t the only huge structures you can destroy – when your tail is getting too hot, you can now bring down bridges too. Shoot out the struts from below, or lay your unlimited C4 on the asphalt to blast huge holes through the road and send your pursuers crashing down to earth in your wake.

                              10. Stunting:
Rico can now walk freely across the top of all the vehicles found in Medici, from the wings of planes, the tops of monorail trains to the bonnets and boots of automobiles. This allows him even more freedom, running and grappling from one rooftop to another and performing crazier stunts than ever before.
