Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands
Just played it for about 5 hours straight with 2 others, laughing and having a great time bouncing between missions. Game is great with friends, not sure how much I'd like it solo bouncing between objectives with AI. Not as interested in that. Solo it'd be just another in a pile of decent open world games that I play for 2-10 hours and then never again.
If I can get a decent digital deal, will be picking it up for sure, maybe even day 1.
Got to level 7 or 8, may play it a little more this weekend just to unlock some of the more advanced drone abilities.Comment

Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands
This game has potential, but it feels very unpolished. Sometimes the framerate doesn't feel smooth. I think it'll be fun in coop mode with sone friends.

Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands
So, I played a bunch yesterday. Overall, I'm enjoying it as a co-op game, but I'm seeing what most of you guys are seeing, which makes this feel like a bit of a missed opportunity. It's a beta, so I'm going to mostly ignore the graphical and audio hiccups in this post (since they're relatively minor, outside of the clipping which I certainly hope is improved by launch) and focus on my main issues.
AI: I'll start with this since it is, IMO, the only aspect flat-out holding the game back.
I miss the cover system of The Division. That said, while the lack of a cover system is a big letdown for me, honestly, it would be mostly an aesthetic addition as it stands on Veteran or Elite difficulty due to the AI issues.
An easy example on Veteran are the side ops which let you rack up large amounts of supplies by stealing a plane or chopper. My son and I decided on one of them to just charge in with a van, hop into the chopper and leave. It took the several guys on the ground going through their alert cycle (I saw you, meter fills, fire) before reacting. We didn't clear anyone (except for one guy near the chopper that I ran over).
We simply grabbed the chopper (and not even that simply...I couldn't get the icon to pop up to enter the damn thing, so I was running from one side to the other trying to get it to trigger...lol) and left with 7-8 guys uselessly firing at us. We both took minimal damage and the enemy pursuit hangs back then flat-out stops once you near your destination.
The hope I hold out for the AI is that there have been a couple of cases where they have spotted my one of us sneaking when we appeared to be pretty well hidden. Also, while most of the time the AI appears to be mostly deaf and nearsighted, there were a few takedowns that triggered a full alert, which was encouraging. It seemed inconsistent and was certainly VERY rare. So, hopefully that can be tweaked. The fact that a full alert didn't worry us as we simply took down an entire base is also concerning though.
That all gets better moving up one from Veteran, but it's still not great. While enemies seemed to react a bit quicker, it feels like the main change is how many bullets you can absorb. I'd love to see improvements to the overall detection (vision AND hearing), patrol, and tactics of the AI. I'd also like to see a bit more aggression when alerted (more active pursuit...at least send a couple of guys to clear buildings or something). It's too easy to hole up and take turns picking guys off after being spotted.
I haven't tried Ghost yet (we are going to today), but keep in mind there's also an "Easy" difficulty as well, which means there's really no cause for the two middle options to be quite so forgiving IMO. I am not a guy who looks for crushingly hard experiences or anything either, but I really hope balancing of the two mid levels is a priority moving forward.
- Driving/vehicles: They feel REALLY arcade-like to me. It's bumper cars, with minimal damage effects (visually, it's ok, but that's about it) and very loose. What bothers me most though is that the other vehicles on road don't ever react to you (I played chicken with a couple drivers to see). It's relatively minor gripe, I guess, but it's a bit disjointing.
- Weapons/Loadout/Skill Tree: The weapons feel pretty good. They are satisfying to fire and not too forgiving. I can notice differences when changing attachments beyond just the scope, which is also nice (e.g. after increasing accuracy at the expense of recoil, I noticed it immediately and had to adjust). The drone is nice, though I wish it were easier for enemies to detect it (something akin to WD2 would be fine). I do like the limits on range and battery life though (we eventually used an in-house rule of single use to offset the AI on Veteran difficulty)
The loadout and customization is solid and while it comes into play less early on, it would seem like you can work up some nice orientations to compliment each other in co-op down the road. Same for the skill tree, which can allow for guys to play differing roles and expand your tactical options.
- Co-op: The co-op experience is, IMO, the best part of the game and enough to keep me playing so far, despite my gripes. The game can be lots of fun to play with someone and, even with the weaker AI, it's fun to coordinate attacks and clear areas. Like The Division, joining up was smooth and quick, making things feel seamless.
Anyway, overall I'm having fun. I just want the tactical side to matter more on the middle difficulties. I can't see getting this on day one based on what I've played so far, but even if nothing but the AI gets addressed, I'm probably in for the co-op fun eventually.Comment

Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands
Hahahaha. No, im not but wish I was unless Vivendi takes them over which is expected so in that case, no thanks.
Just think that too many gamers are putting way too much stock into what is said to be a four to six month old beta build.Comment

Re: Ghost Recon Wildlands
The lack of a cover system is killing this game.....for me anyway. The beta is underwhelming, even for a beta. Gone from day one from me to maybe not even getting it later on sale.
