I would double those numbers at least, skillz. In my experience anyway.

I don't think any open-world game has been able to replicate the feel of a crowded urban area.

Just finished up Cassandras and Vitos side missions. I feel like all of my people that played Mafia 2 should do Vitos side missions. After you're done he explains what he think happened to Joe after what took place towards the end of Mafia 2.

I don't know if I've seen anything as packed as those shots, but on the PC I don't really remember any road or sidewalk ever being that dead either. I'm always seeing people and cars all over. I spend a lot of time walking from mission to mission instead of driving and the sidewalks are definitely full for me.

I'm sure some editing can be done to increase traffic on the PC. That was one thing I always did in GTA.

I have decided that I think this is a pretty good game. The more I played the more I enjoyed it. The theme, the setting, the story and the messages behind it, all top notch.

After about 9 hours I give it a solid 7.5

The thing that I am really disappointed they didn't continue from Mafia 2 is the garage system with your cars. Especially with all the nice cars in this game.

This is a common theme it seems (not with you personally). Usually a good idea to wait to really critique games until you've played them more.

BF1 is a good example too. Everyone writes if off during beta, and now....everyone loves it.

Heard this starts off pretty good in the first few hours but then gets super repetitive after that. (in regards to missions/mission variety)

                    Re: Mafia 3

I too find this game more than decent. The story is extremely good and the gameplay, cars, driving, combat are fine. Crashing into other vehicles is a little comical and more on the Saints Row side of things but the actual driving is good.

The strangest constant occurrence is the cloud cover. On a sunny day when the clouds cover the sun they don't gradually change the lighting of the world, they radically change it. The shadow line on the ground moves as fast as an overflying jet. Instead of inching over the world it speeds and it looks really silly. Hopefully that can be adjusted in a patch. It doesn't detract from the gameplay but it totally betrays the overall quality of the product.

The characters are fantastic and Clay is a good protagonist. For mine, this is a case where the story is more than good enough to carry the game and the game outside of the story is still good enough in many respects to compliment the story.

Each district follows the same path for takeover. To me it feels similar to a Ubisoft designed open world game in that there are the same objectives and collectibles for each district. Whether or not that will feel repetitive depends on the gamer and whether the game can immerse them in its world despite its flaws.

Personally, I'm still having a blast. The narrative resonates with me because each character - even the minor ones - tie back to the story and its themes. Everyone has left something behind. While they will never get it back they dream and hope that their path of revenge will lead them back to where they were. Lincoln is supported by a cast of characters that reflects his own cause of crusade and each serve as yet another reminder for motivation.

The world itself is wonderful. The Hollow feels fine until you venture out and see that it's practically a third world. Once you wander into the upper class sections of the city and witness new cars, segregated businesses, and police that serve and protect rather than scrutinize, it really brings New Bordeaux to life. Escaping to the swamp and bayous is a brief relief, but a retreat none the less. The night-time visuals are beautiful and combined with the ambiance noise of city living its great to just take the time to walk down the street.

As I progress the game does become more difficult despite the elementary nature of the AI. I've died more times in the last two districts than I have in the warming up stages of the game. This is in large part thanks to some of the more cozier spaces that are teeming with goons to put down.

Fortunately, I haven't encountered any game halting glitches or anything to cause me to scratch my head for more than a second. Sometimes the lighting can be a bit...much - typically during dusk/dawn - as the sun reflects off puddles of water int he street and causes sudden blindness. Still, there are times where the game truly feels like it came out of the 60s with its superb soundtrack combined with the hazy visuals of a post-card New Orleans.

For me the positives far outweigh the negatives. This may not have the polish of a GTA or even a Watch Dogs, but for me the characters are a lot more memorable and interesting.

Everybody look exactly what I thought they would except for Lincoln Clay. His voice just don't match his actual look.

I agree with this 100%. I am pretty early in the game, but I am hooked on this tale of vengeance.

I think the word repetitive is over used as most games are; especially open world games like GTA and AC. Even classic JRPG's that some of us love where you go to town > talk to people > upgrade weapons/armor. go to the next dungeon > beat the boss > Next Town > Repeat. Every Mario game, which many love, feel very repetitive.

Could the game have benefited from more time to polish things, absolutely. When it rains at night in game, the graphical representation of rain drops look very strange. The game could also feel more "alive". And the AI, on Hard especially, could be smarter.

But at it's core, this is story telling done really really right, which adds to the immersion. Yes, the cover, stealth, gunplay mechanics do nothing to redefine the genre, but they work. I have not run into any strange glitches. The AI is what it is. I don't remember the last Open World game where the AI was superb (Not saying they don't exist, I just don't recall any). With a few tweaks to each of the key mechanics, this game could have been an instant classic. Through the negatives, though, I cannot wait to watch this story unfold. The bad in no way takes away from the good.

This seems like a tough game for pro reviewers to score highly. They are probably tuned to look at everything from a technical standpoint, comparing the experience to other like games. From a fun standpoint, I highly recommend this game for anyone on the fence. Whether you buy it no or wait for a sale, I think it's worth playing for the story and setting/time period alone. Hoping that they continue to make updates/DLC that continue to add to the experience.

Thanks for the write up and I did read the whole thing, although this is all I really needed to hear.

Probably just watch the cutscenes on you tube.
