    Re: Stellaris (PC)

Being a fan of Hungary in EU4 I started the

    Galactic New Hungarian Empire

Ive found a few other people to the north, north west area of the map who don't really care about me, but a few hours later I found a very large empire to my Southeast who wants to kill me. Space Ottomans, is that you?

lol, a couple hours in, mostly on fast, and i get a quick war declaration and a fleet shows up with 800 or so strength and wipes out my entire home sector.

Oh well, was ready to start over I guess! lol.

I'm starting out slow, taking my time.
created a scientific focused Direct Democracy using Mass Drivers starting weapons and Worm Hole travel.

My starting system was very big, 22 named objects(lots of Moons and asteroids). ended up with 5 energy and Engineering research, and 2 physics research. a near system had 9 minerals and another one next to it had 7 mineral, which was nice.

          Re: Stellaris (PC)

Haven't been able to put this game down since I started this morning. I waged war over a Gaia planet right outside my border, after forcing the enemy to cede the planet I purged the alien population and got a message from a super advanced race basically telling me to stop being a jerk or they are gonna come after me. I actually lost a lot of good diplomacy with a bunch of neighboring empires after that.

There are a few minor things I haven't quite figured out how to do, a couple mechanics I don't have a firm grasp on. It's stuff I think I'll figure out eventually though. For example I don't understand how to earn blockade points or occupy enemy planets I'm attacking while at war. Right now I just continuously bombard the planet or move on to another star to attack their forces there. Feel like I'm missing something there.

The whole slave army/slave trading I've read about is beyond me right now. Also, I tried uplifting a primitive race and it wouldn't let me no matter what I did.

My main issue right now is I think I messed something up with influence. I'm capped with minerals and energy but I only have 46 influence and generate like .80 a month or something like that. I think I misused my frontier outposts

Game is freaking awesome, highly recommend

          Edit:

I encountered a glitch many hours into my playthrough that I think is tied to wormhole travel. I'll tell my fleet to go somewhere and it gets stuck in an idle/move stutter and won't move at all. I have to restart the game a few times before it fixes itself

played 3 hours........didn't have a clue what the hell I was doing. Explored a coupe systems. Had 1 species constantly flying through my territory, had another species attack me on sight. My map was a 1,000 stars. Fun game.

Had the same issue, once you grab space with your outpost you need to send a colony ship if you can. Once you make a colony you then remove the outpost to gain your influence back.
Outpost are nice to stop someone from blocking you in, but too many of them hurt you at the start.

plus look for research that adds influence, right now I generate +7

                Ah, very smart

Yeah I def messed up. I got -5 a month strictly from my outposts and another -2 from my alliance. Its killing me to the point where I almost want to use the console to cheat and add influence but I'm forcing myself not to snd just ride it out until I fix it.

Right now I have no scientists and only 2 governors out of 6 planets. When I hop on again I'll look into destroying all my outposts

Is there a way to expand my border without using outposts?

                  Edit

Obviously other than war/taking over other empires. Like will it expand on its own over time if the space around me is free

There is a technology that expands your borders.

The one I'm researching now is called Galactic Ambitions and it raises my border range by 20%, I also try to space my settlements out enough to increase the range, rather have an empty gap in the middle that I can grab later on, and land grab early on, especially if there's some good planets.

Nice, yeah that's smart. I'm trusting this first playthrough kinda as a "tutorial" I guess. I've messed up a lot already but at least I'm learning the hard way now.

I can definitely see how I messed up early on now

That's how Paradox games are, that's why I quit my first one pretty quickly!

My second game now, I was doing really good, getting everything off the ground, colonized a second planet on a far reach, and continued exploring, found a Fallen Empire, who really didn't like how close my colony was, they declared war and annihilated me. Destroyed my home world's space port which sets me back, destroyed my entire fleet. I accepted their demands of abandoning the planet that was close to their space, they than murdered my president to send a message.

                        Brutal.

The early game really does a huge job of crafting stories, this randomly generated Fallen Empire, suddenly has become public enemy #1!

((They came to war with a 21K stack, my stack was 121.. ))

21k!! Wow, lol. I started a militaristic custom race at lunch, was more successful than I was expecting poking all the random alien life. I have a hard time playing anything but the 'everyone had to like me, win by pacification' style of empire, only to inevitably get stomped by someone not as nice as me.

Yep, I ended up having to quit that save, they kept declaring a war of humiliation on me every few years, basically destroying anything I built.

I'm having a rough go right now! haha

My new save for the time being is going good, built up my naval fleet, found a hostile neighbor and called war preemptively, destroyed their fleet, and just holding them for attrition for the time being, until I can swipe a planet.

Ok so dumb question but here it goes

I've participated in and won many wars so far but I've never used an "army."

Like I just use ships (I guess that's considered navy in this game?)

I've never built army forces in a planet, assigned a general to them, etc

A.) am I doing it wrong? Can you attack other planets wth your army or is it just for defense if that planet gets assaulted
B.) when do those come into play/ when are they supposed to come into play
C.) any input/thoughts at all, in general, about this topic?

                              Thanks

The army is what you put on the planet to control it in conflict. You can tear down their defenses with your naval forces, but you cannot actually occupy the planet unless you put boots to the ground. Honestly it isn't as big of a deal from what I've seen early game, you could keep a small group just to occupy planets for you. I haven't occupied one yet though so I don't know if they deal with attrition drain or anything yet.
