The Witness (PS4/PC)
Jon Blow's (Braid) new game drops tomorrow. Been getting some great reviews.
IGN - 10/10
The Witness has a power and pull that carried me throughout the more than 40 hours it took to complete it for the first time, and that, even now, beckons me back to confront the mysteries I left unsolved. Its graceful combination of tangible goals, obscurity, and freedom creates ample opportunity for small victories and grand revelations alike. For the most part, its themes weave themselves beautifully throughout the gorgeous world and wide variety of puzzles, but even when it breaks subtlety in favor of a more heavy-handed approach to exposition, it never detracts from the truly fulfilling moments The Witness offers in terms of solving its physical puzzles and unlocking its deepest mysteries.
The Witness’s early puzzles are barely tougher than connect-the-dots. They soon evolve into hour-long stumpers marked with esoteric symbols, governed by hidden rules that must be discovered by solving other puzzles. Sometimes you’ll solve a puzzle and have a eureka moment about a totally different puzzle, halfway across the island. The island is packed with purpose and filled with teases: desert ruins that appear to have broken puzzle panels on them, seemingly unreachable rooftops that have puzzles that surely you’re supposed to be able to access, puzzles on beaches and in jungles, stuff in the town that seems to have to do with stuff in the forest or the temple. What’s the point of that windmill? Of that wrecked ship? Why was there a way-too-easy puzzle all by itself on that log? (I’m dying to tell you the answer to that last one, but I won’t!)Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationTags: None -

Re: The Witness (PS4/PC)
Not sure I want to drop $40 on this. Was expecting it to be more in the $20-$30 range. Sounds like a solid game, though.Comment

Re: The Witness (PS4/PC)
It is for now.
There might be a retail release down the line, but nothings announced.
Also I don't really have an issue with the $40 price. It's at least a 20-30 hour game, and a full completion will take close to 100 hours. Talos Principle was also $40 and I think it was worth that price.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

If you guys loved The Talos Principle or even Antichamber you will like this one too. If not, simply stay away and save your money.Comment

Re: The Witness (PS4/PC)
I haven't played either of those games but I really like the sound of this game based on everything I've read. Probably gonna download it tonight"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

I'm gonna walk my dog and then sit down with his game tonight. Hope to put some good time in and give an impression.
I would stream but I feel with a puzzle game there's stuff you want to see for the first time yourself"Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."
