Can't really comment because I've never played those games. I can't do FPS's due to headaches.

I always believe that the more people that can enjoy a game, the better. I get what Money said though, that a lot of devs sacrifice single player quality in favor of multi-player components, which is crappy. In life, and especially in gaming, it's impossible for everyone to be happy, I get that

    Oh well.

The details from that Neogaf post all sound great. Wildlife system could add some immersion to the environment for sure.

    Edit

I think it only bothers me because when I think of zombie games I think of co-op/multiplayer. SP only doesn't bother me one bit for games like God of War and Ratchet and Clank, Tomb Raider, etc
Honestly, I agree with you. I don't think this game needs to have 40 people on at the same time. I think that's what games like Day Z will be for where 'sometimes people are more deadly than zombies'.

But IMO, I think a game like this would do well with allowing up to 4 people online at the same time.
Each person's actions could shape the world around you.
I think it'd be cool to login one night and see that a car, or home was burned down, or there was some kind of attack in a campsite, only to find out it was one of my friends scavenging overnight while I was offline.
Or working together to clear some infected from an area with supplies.
But I think all of this would then cut into the directed, scripted nature of the story?

No, but not every game has to have multi-player nor do they have to have single player.

          Day One Buy.

I'll be back when more news is posted so I can read about it.

I guess we won't see this game till maybe 2018.

Yea it looks to be about two years out but what I saw looked cool.

We'll see what happens, I'm sure this thread will be revived every so many months.

It's already mid 2016 and they said they are in the early stages of development. Usually by now you'd hear something like spring 2017 release.

I'm guessing we will hear a mid to late 2017 release that will be pushed back to early 2018. Also this feels like a perfect spring release so I wouldn't be surprised if it's more like May 2018.

My guess. They could be holding back and announcing when fully ready to surprise us all. But since when has Sony ever been tight lipped about a release versus building hype through marketing?

                          Re: Days Gone

The reason the game is most likely two years away is because according to reports, Sony Bend worked on two other games for approximately a year each but they were both cancelled. Days Gone has only been in development since last year some time. Plus, Bend is a small studio. A big massive open ended type game like this is going to take a while.

I'm definitely hyped for Days Gone and was happy to finally see what Bend has been working on and to get a gameplay video was awesome. Especially the extended one on youtube that shows more stuff that wasn't shown at the conference.

With that said, in a way, I do wish they didn't show the game until next year for the simple reason that I hate it when games are shown too early. But oh well.

2017 is stacked overall so getting this in 2018 is a disappointment but at least, it's not like "oh, this sucks".

A few other tidbits taken from neogaf user ironcreed -

Exemplifying truly free-form gameplay, Days Gone offers freedom to explore, strategize and play “your way” in the vast high-desert of the Pacific Northwest. The hazardous environments, filled with carved out ridges, mountains, caves, cliffs mines and river basins, deliver a breathtaking backdrop to an equally diverse style of gameplay.

                              Emergent Gameplay

Featuring fully explorable environments and dynamic AI enemies, players will rely on their own abilities to strategize, craft weapons and tools, explore the world, and engage in combat. With almost every car, building and environment searchable, Days Gone delivers emergent gameplay possibilities, making a player’s approach to combat and discovery a vital part of the experience.

                              Stunning, Dynamic Graphics

Using the power of PlayStation 4 and Unreal Engine 4, Bend Studio has developed a high volume of rendering and gameplay technology to deliver an incredibly realistic open world experience. Realistic weather effects, such as rain, wind, snow and day-night cycles impact the gameplay. The game’s lighting is all real-time and reacts dynamically, the way the human iris does, as players move from one location to the next.
                              And Kinda Funny -

-The Freakers eat, sleep and drink, the virus keeps them alive
-Their is a counter in the game that keeps tracks of the number of enemies in the horde
-The Freakers hibernate during the day, so you can set traps for them in that time
-The game was designed with the bikes in mind
                              -No urban areas
                              -There is an upgrade system

The game looks real good and will definitely be a Day 1 buy for me. Just wish they would have held back and showed it at next years E3 since this game probably won't be releasing until sometime in 2018.
