I swear the worst thing to happen to me is the Kindle app and nearly unlimited samples to read.

Re: Days Gone
Nothing is really comparable to a great or even a good book. Games are great at touring virtual worlds, but it puts the burden on the player to largely make the connection with the game world themselves. Very rarely do any of them achieve in making the player understand the importance the character places on the world. Very few games craft compelling narratives filled with rich characters.

I've never played less video games in my entire life. I find that 99% of them are rehashed games I've played for the past 3 decades. There's very little originality anymore and with the current technology I'm still waiting for a truly engaging, open world game where every decision I make triggers a butterfly affect that will alter than entire universe in such a way that repeating the same game is next to impossible.
I'm really hoping that RDR2 is that game.
Sports games are my jam, but unlike when I was a kid and there were multiple choices in every sport, I find the 1 (and if you're lucky 2) option you have is no better than they were from yesteryear. In some cases, they're worse.
Let's face it, they're all basically a roster update.
The only time we see a noticeable upgrade is when new consoles are released. And even then, they usually give a stripped-down version of the last-gen version and it's years before they get back to where they were in the previous gen.
NHL 93 had out of town highlights. Where has that gone?
Where is my Fight Night?
Where is my option for a baseball game on the Xbox? Or a 2nd option on the PS4?
Saying that, I'm really looking forward to Days Gone, Spiderman, RDR2 and State of Decay 2.
It seems like forever since I've had a great game to dig into.Comment

Re: Days Gone
I had high hopes for the future of game worlds and lasting affects when I first played Fable. Looking back it feels like an outlier in a market of gaming worlds that only feature one-way interactions.

Re: Days Gone
Came to read about Days Gone. Instead found posts about reading.
Books are magic.
So are video games.
But I'm finding that playing a truly good video game is becoming more difficult than finding a great book.
I hope Days Gone takes games to the next level.

Re: Days Gone
I need to go back through and watch the E3 vids again. Does anybody know what kind of gameplay this will have? Will there be any type of survival mechanics (foraging, building/repairing, etc?).

That was just in the first 1:45 of a 10 minute video, so it appears there's tons that sort of thing. At least in some parts.Boston Red Sox

Re: Days Gone
I think that's why I'm geeked about State of Decay 2.
And it'd be awesome if DayZ was finally released.

Fable was awesome. But you're right - it's like nobody wanted to follow suit when this came out.
I'm guessing it's a time consuming endeavor and most developers want a game out the door as soon as possible.Comment
