I think word of mouth helps a lot more than advertising on TV, internet, etc. I was the first one in my group of friends to try NBA2k and then ESPN Football, and most of my friends have at least played or own both games.

There is no logical reason to expect EA to change their M.O. or to be supplanted in sales any time in the near future. I haven't seen the numbers, but I would imagine the last incarnations of their baseball, basketball and football titles have all had record sales this year. Hockey will probably the only title that undergoes a radical change. I don't see an incentive for them to change. Espns first next gen titles must garner Halo, GTA, MGS type praise, coverage, and ratings to have chance of overtaking EA. That's a tall order, but realistically that's what needs to happen. People predicting their demise are doing so based on a small, non-representative sample.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

EA has brand recognition, and that's all they need to continue to dominate the market.

The average (non-forum) consumer, buys Madden, period. It may not be the better game (which is debateable), but it's the one that is purchased more.

I don't see why this trend would cease in the upcoming years. People have bought Madden their entire lives, why stop now?

I`ve absolutely hated the NBA LIVE series since LIVE `01 came out for the ps2! this series is total garbage! I wouldn`t play the LIVE series even if it was free!

But I enjoy Madden and MVP! in MVP they need to fix that lefty glitch and the lack of CPU steals is also VERY annoying! for Madden they need to fix that stupid speed bonus teams get when you increase the difficulty setting. the difficulty setting doesn`t actually improve the AI, its just a speed bonus.

now compare Madden to ESPN NFL... its very close. but I still give the edge to madden. it just has a better FEEL than ESPN. But ESPN does alot of things better than madden.

compare MVP to ESPN... no contest! MVP is better, atleast the 2-player game is better. one player its close. I think MVP just does baseball strategy better than ESPN.

compare LIVE to ESPN NBA... i`ll take NBA INSIDE DRIVE `04! its just a better simulation of basketball! LIVE and ESPN are too arcadish!

As far as hockey goes...I don`t play hockey games.

at any rate... EA is not going to make any major changes to their sports games. they dominate the sales charts. so they have no reason to change. in fact... sega is the only one that needs to make radical changes.

EA's been improving(Tiger Woods and NHL are exceptions), but they can't have another stretch where the basketball, baseball, soccer and hockey turn into late bloomers Like Midway and MK, they have a ton of prestige from the 16-bit days, it's going to take years to break through that.

What i was saying is,that ea has to come up with some better efforts imo on their games ,like nhl, madden, and live(allstar part is the only good thing)and fifa isnt as good as winning soccer eleven series, and IMPROVE them, yes they will keep selling,if they suck dont buy them, and they might get the picture, thats all we can do as consumers.
