Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)
Somehow I managed to avoid all the spoilers and just finished this today on the PS5.
What an absolute epic adventure.
Loved how they showed the events of the first game from a different perspective.
So many emotional and memorable scenes. The part in the rocket ship was amazing.
Nevermind the astonishing graphics on the PS5, the sound -- and the importance of sound in the gameplay -- was unlike anything I've ever experienced in a game.
Definitely a Heart of Darkness feel to the main story with the descent into maddening violence.Comment

Agree 100% the different perspective was dynamite.
I loved every set piece and environment and felt it out did the first game in many ways. A sequel that exceeded the original on many levels.

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)
I'm currently playing this as well. I'll save my final thoughts for the end.
I knew some of the major story beats but went in with an open mind. I'd say I'm about 60% or 2/3 of the way through based on my best estimates.
First half of the game was phenomenal. Since the halfway point it's been....okay?....from a story perspective. I'll wait until I'm done to give final judgment on the story.
The gameplay and set pieces though are top notch

Have also been grinding this the last 10 days, and sheesh what a terrific game. I haven't been moved by a story like this in some time. The rare game where you looking forward to the cutscenes as they are so gripping.
I think I'm pretty close to the end now but this has me already reconsidering my "game of the year".
Also makes me realize I'd be the first guy dead in an apocalypse LOL.Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)
Wrapped this up over the weekend, a 10/10 game for me. I didn't feel left wanting in any regard. I had a tear in my eye as the story concluded, really did love this game and these characters.
I'd bet they'll be tempted to release a 3rd installment, or a sort of spin-off. For me, just leave it with these two installments.
Highly recommend for anyone who has not yet played.Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

Been dying for news on the latest iteration of Factions forever now. I wonder if they’re waiting until closer to the launch of the HBO show to officially unveil things like the new Factions and also the rumored TLoU remake.Comment

Re: The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)
So I finished the game last night.
SpoilerI really enjoyed the game. I think game critics labeling it the greatest gaming masterpiece of all time need to stop sniffing their own farts, but there is no doubt it is an excellent game.
The gameplay is phenomenal. I think a second playthrough would be a ton of fun. Most of the environments offer a lot of ways to really take advantage of all the tools in your tool belt. But on an initial playthrough I found it difficult to really take advantage of the large encounter environments because I was concerned about having someone sneak up behind me or something. I didn't know the environments well enough to strategize. On a second playthrough that would be a ton of fun.
Story wise....I am not sure where I stand on it. I LOVED the first part of the game through Ellie's Day 3. I knew the perspective switch was coming so was prepared for it. I liked Abby alot actually. And I want to give Naughty Dog credit because the way we are introduced to her, for them to even get the player to say they like her is quite the achievement. But at the same time I didn't care if she died. In fact, I still wanted Ellie to kill her. Ellie's breakdown on the beach after an image of Joel flashing in her mind just felt lame to me. I almost feel like this game would have been better if it didn't have Joel and Ellie and it told Abby's story over 25 hours and it ended with Joel's death. This would also have allowed us to see Abby, her friends, and the conflict between the WLF and Seraphites in more detail. Then a "Part III" could have been about Ellie and Abby with perspective switching with the focus on Ellie getting revenge and much of what happened to Abby occurring in a third game.
I will also never get over my eye rolling about Naughty Dog taking the doctor, who was an after thought, at the end of the first game and retconning that nothing character into a Firefly leader and the driving force for the sequel. It would be like if in Uncharted, one of the children of the pirates that attacked Nathan and Elena at the beginning of the first game started a quest for revenge against Nathan for killing his dad.
All in all though, TLOU2 is an excellent game despite the issues I have with the narrative. Gameplay, set pieces (the ride through Haven and the horde chase through the sewer stand out), characters and graphics are top notch.

a bit of a thread bump, but it looks like Part 2 Multiplayer/Factions 2 standalone game is dead in the water
"The team working on the game was scaled back after a recent evaluation, said the people, who asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly. A small group remains on the project while the company reevaluates the direction. While the game has not been canceled, many of its developers have been moved to other projects.
As part of that push it asked another of its video-game studios, Seattle-based Bungie, to evaluate the games across its portfolio. Bungie raised questions about the The Last of Us multiplayer project’s ability to keep players engaged for a long period of time, which led to the reassessment."
I totally understand why they went for ambition with its own spin-off title (Battle Royale, DMZ/Tarkov style mode, Co-op campaign, etc.), but to strip Part 2 of its multiplayer just to do NOTHING with it, is really disheartening as a consumer of an otherwise perfect franchise for meLast edited by JazzMan; 05-26-2023, 07:33 PM.Twitter: @TyroneisMaximus

this sucks man. I just wanted a legit 5v5 MP component for Part 2, which had hands-down my favorite gameplay and gunplay for a 3rd person shooter since the prime days of Gears 1-3 and Max Payne 3. At this point I'm not holding my breath for anything, especially with that single-player title snuck into that statement

I'm very surprised that it's being turfed as I thought the original had a strong following that maybe wasn't as big as I thought??
I'd still rather play factions than dozens of other mp games. I'd even pay for a factions only re-release/remaster.Liquor in the front, poker in the rear.Comment
