    Re: Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

I'm loving this game! I completed my first fortress assault in the story last night. Had a blast.

The nemesis system upgrades in this game are great. I love how your branded captains can betray you.

Also the amount of enemies in some areas is nuts. One area on Nurnen, I attacked a captain, right after I started fighting him, a captain I had previously killed returned for revenge against me. Then my Olog-hai bodyguard I called in to help save my *** betrayed me because of blood brother stuff. And because there was apparently another random captain nearby that I wandered too close to while dashing and fighting for my life, he started attacking me as well.

So I went from fighting one captain, to fighting four (all with different approaches required to defeat them), all of their followers that they individually bring into battle with them, plus miscellaneous orcs from the surroundings that joined in. And to make matters worse I accidentally shot a drake bait at one point when an orc moved at the last second from where I was aiming an arrow, so add in a drake indiscriminately fire bombing everyone.

4 captains, I swear to god it had to have been at least 50 or more grunt orcs, and one fire bombing happy drake. Yeah, I got ****ed up in a hurry, lmao.

When I was in Nurnen, I had 2 captain come back, one who kept coming back, 4-5 times and then I killed him. I’m now attacking the last region, and I’ve yet to see any other captains come back.

Has anyone seen captains come back in other regions?

Was doing a little fight pit action and went to shame the winner who was a level 49. He became a maniac and is now level 65.

Holy ****, I just got my *** saved. I was ambushed by a captain 12 levels above me. I tried fighting him one on one but he got me down and went to execute me, when out of nowhere, my Olog-hai bodyguard suddenly appeared and stopped the deathblow in midair, before grabbing the captain and ripping his head clean off while 'Savior' appeared on the screen. That's the first time that's happened for me.

              Re: Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

Was really annoyed about one aspect of my playthrough. When I first encountered the orc voiced by Kumail Nanjiani i made it a point to kill him or get rid of him in some way because I found that his vocal performance really took me out of the game. Yet the game seemed to make a point of never decapitating him and making him the most persistent orc in my game, seemingly just so they can get out all of the lines he recorded. He's been poisoned to death, burned, executed, brutalized, recruited, shunned, shamed multiple times and he just comes back higher and higher level. Really annoying when there are captains that die and disappear that you want to recruit but the one you want to kill from the first encounter refuses to die.

One cool aspect though was that one betrayal in my playthrough happened because i set up alot of captains in pit fights ambushes and duels except for one who was nothing special, and he said i never paid attention to him but i will now as he betrayed me lol.

I love the ambushes. I've been ambushed for all sorts of things, just going around stealth attacking orcs, bam, ambushed by someone who hates stealth attacks. Go around kill caragors, bam, ambushed by a captain who is beast friendly and rides around on a caragor.

Go around brutalizing orcs, bam, ambushed by an Olog-hai who has the title of "Pain Seeker" and apparently has a SERIOUS sadomasochism fetish based on his dialogue. I really wish I had thought to capture the video of him talking about desiring, wanting and needing pain from me the two times I fought him, I was laughing my *** off.

Time for some pit fighting! After capturing the Minas Ungol and Sereghost fortresses last night, time to start upgrading my War Chiefs before I make my move on Gorgoroth. Time to send some followers to the pits. Either they win and improve a couple levels, or they die and I can recruit me some new stronger followers.

The whole fortress assault/defense, fight pits and upgrading your followers via pit fights and nemesis missions that you create are essentially their own separate game inside the game. Screw the main missions, let's just do some pit fighting and **** up some fortresses or armies in defense of my fortresses.

It's a shame there's not a gambling mechanic in this game. I'd love to wager some Mirian on pit fights, lol.

Is that Act 4? I've heard so many mixed feelings about that stuff. Look forward to getting to it and trying it myself, gaming ADD permitted. Some claim it's built just for the loot boxes, others claim it's just a boring grind. Sounds fun.

The game must be good, the only thing what I read is the endgame sucks. What isn't good. It look so good until the loot boxes revealed. Maybe next year when it drops to 20 bucks until then no.

I'm not sure, I'm technically still in Act II. I just had been ignoring main missions while I went and capture Cirith Ungol and then and took over Sereghost the first chance I got. I still have at least one or two more Gondor missions in Sereghost before I'll probably hear from Bruz again and trigger a fortress defense.

Unfortunately I've been on a hiatus from this game since the weekend, been sidetracked by the two South Park games since Monday.

Thankfully, it sounds like they have acknowledged that the endgame is getting hammered by fans and they're releasing free DLC at some point to make Shadow Wars essentially endless, where you'll have infinite fortress assaults/defenses, and be able to continue doing stuff around the various regions.

Your choice, but I couldn't wait and not regretting it a bit. Started it last night, put 2 hours into the game that felt like 10 minutes.

After 100% the game, I’ve been playing around and letting grunts kill me to see what kind of captain the become. A random Olog killed me and then broke my level 60 sword, I knew they did this, but not that you could reforge it into a better weapon.

I now have a level 65 sword, 124 dmg, 42% coin drop, 52% to curse.
I wish it had other stats, but pretty cool anyways

I never played the 1st one. Is it worth it to play thru 1st one before playing this? Is this game an improvement over the original or just more of the same?
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.
