Played about 45 mins of some MP, but already I feel way more encouraged than I did when I played the beta a month ago or so. I thought the beta graphics were pretty, meh, but the trial version is much better looking IMO, and I'm not even using the X yet. Map I played looked amazing too.

Some comments on whether or not Battlefront II is still Pay to Win.

The tl;dr version according to this guy is the game is still pay to win (or at least pay to get a massive advantage)

The person in the video bought $90 of loot crates (85 crates):
Here is a rundown of what he unlocked with his purchase
            -40 green cards
            -7 Blues
            -"Countless level ones"
            -3,915 Scrap
-18,700 credits (to be used for more crates)

-In one scene he was flying around in an interceptor and it was taking people 50% more time to lock onto him because of his cards.
-The level restrictions that were supposed to circumvent some of the P2W nature of the game are very soft. The guy in the video was already level 12 and able to enjoy the advantage Green cards that he had a full set of after about 3 1/2 hours of gameplay. He estimated he was another hour or so of gameplay away from being able to equip Blue cards (which he also has several of as well as plenty of crafting materials to immediately upgrade others)
-Beyond just the Green & Blue cards you may get from buying the crates, he also talks about the stockpile of crafting materials he obtained which will allow him to make up for any cards he doesn't already have.
-The power jumps from these star cards are still game changing. I mentioned earlier 50% longer lock on time card. He mentioned some cards that gave 20% damage boosts as well (and these are still only mid-level cards).

edit - Also I just saw this
            https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBat...t_loot_crates/

            tldr
-EA said you would get crafting parts for duplicates, you don't. You get 200 credits (it takes 4000 credits to buy a crate)
-People are getting tons of duplicates already
-Crates have tripled in price since beta (at least that's what I gathered from one of the posts).
-You get 200-300 credits per game; loot crates cost 4,000 and "heroes like Luke and Vader cost 60,000 credits).

            So disappointing.

Was tempted to get this with my PS4 Slim around Black Friday. With the loot box system and being unsure about what the playerbase will be like a few months from now I'll hold off.

It reminds me of ME3's multiplayer unlock system with the cards. Although ME3 multiplayer was more of a co op experience instead of head to head.

There are some questions and issues with the loot systems but I’m loving this game. Haven’t touched COD since the trial on Friday.

EA responds to community criticism of Battlefront 2 unlock system

                      ...

When your progression and reward systems need constant "tuning" because of feedback and are so obtuse that it requires you to try and explain and satiate people on multiple occasions, you know it's poorly conceived.

At the end of the day it won't matter though. Those of us complaining and saying we won't support this are the minority. The Star Wars brand will easily make this a massive seller.

                      ...

EA's response is the most downvoted comment in Reddit history at nearly 80K. Previous was only 24K.

I think JackFrags brought up an excellent point with the loot boxes and how they have boost in them instead of just straight up cosmetic stuff. Lucas and Disney wont allow all kinds of different cosmetic things for characters and one of the only reasons that Dice and EA are "forced" to have boosts in there. Don't completely buy that EA is forced to have them at all, but I do understand the market with microtransactions and them not being able to cram a bunch of cosmetic stuff in there to entice people to buy does make sense.

It's a similar story to what happened after beta. My thoughts on their initial response to the criticism there was they had a lot to say without actually saying anything, or more importantly admitting to any wrongdoing. Then as it is now with their new response. They keep going with this almost head in the sand mentality of "we hear your concerns, but just buy the game anyway".

It's really a shame because outside of the exploitative nature of their loot crate system the game looks really solid.

Things become even worse when the EA Community manager sends out a tweet of "The armchair developers on the internet". Perhaps I should say former EA Community Manager as I believe he no longer has that title on his twitter page. The mods have banned him on Reddit too

The bad news is I'm sure this game will still sell really well because there are a lot of people who aren't tuned into controversies like this, and still others who are willing to put up with the ridiculous system. I wonder how much money EA has made off of reviewers who each went in and bought $100 in loot crates to test out the system.
