    Big win for gamers.

BF2 tried to do the same thing that mobile games do everyday but that $60 price tag wouldn't allow it.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

      Big win for gamers, potentially.

EA is in charge so there is still a very real possibility that they just flip a switch in a month or so to turn everything back on as it was or with few changes after people have bought the game and the outrage dies down.

On the other hand, it does say they won't be turning it back on until "after we have made changes to the game". That's a pretty strong statement that could just be window dressing, but I also think they have to know the backlash for them to just flip and switch without making some wholesale changes could be even bigger than the recent one.

I'm probably too jaded to fully trust EA at this point, but this is at least promising.

Has anyone bought the standard edition on Amazon? I just decided to do that since I had a game to trade and would get the 20% off Prime discount, it says the normal 2-day free shipping but my delivery date is 11/21. Maybe it's a stock issue. But never had that happen before.

My guess is you probably bought it too late for it to still make it by Monday under two day free shipping. I don't know what the order deadline is to get it to arrive by Monday, but I'm gonna guess it was probably sometime earlier Thursday afternoon if it's showing Tuesday for you right now.

Edit - It looks like Tuesday is correct. Because, depending on where you live in regards to if it's still Thursday or Friday right now, you either ordered after the Thursday cut off time, or before the Friday cut off time, it would arrive on Tuesday in either case.

EA will make this a thing again a month or two after the heat is off a bit. You guys are suckers if you believe anything otherwise.

Polygon gave an in-depth look at what $90 of micro-transactions will get you. A bunch of credits, a bunch of weak, level one base star cards that don't help much and not much else. In the end, whether you grind or pay, everyone splatters their X-Wing into the side of the same Star Destroyer.

So even when micro-transactions come back in the future, whether you grind or pay, get ready to grind nonetheless as loot chests don't really give you any outstanding gear, their only real use is getting credits and crafting parts. Then it's on you to level up not only your overall account, but each individual class in the hopes of being able to eventually upgrade the star cards you desire to upgrade.

Thank you. I kinda figured it would be here Sunday since it would count as a Friday order because we get Sunday delivery here.

But yeah, it must be something weird with the cut offs. After my trade in and the 20% discount I got the game for $18, so I can't really complain.

Some of it might have to do with the European investigations into the loot and how it is essentially gambling for children. Of course Disney wants nothing to do with that kind of press, but it is also bad for EA if all these regulations started popping up that hurt their business model.

I imagine, once the movie is out and Christmas is over - a lot of games going out as gift purchases - they will have magically found a way to "re-balance" the progression (minor changes, if any) and you can go back to buying your power. It is also possible they remove some of the slot-machine mechanics, in that you only buy specific items, but I'd say that's less likely.

Yeah, my money is in micro-transactions being turned back on by Christmas day. If they haven't turned it back in by Christmas, my next guess will be sometime shortly after the new year. I don't see them leaving them turned off for more than a month or two tops, regardless of what changes they do or don't make.

I've seen 4 or 5 different reviews like the polygon one, and the bolded part is actually what seemed to be the most game breaking from all accounts. Someone who spends $90 may only get 15-20 total rare cards, but there will be plenty of crafting parts to upgrade just about everything they could possibly need.

I'd love to play this game so I really want to believe that they will correct the system, but there is so much ambiguity in their response that it's hard to think they won't just turn the old system (or something very similar to it) back on after all the holiday sales.

Also, the gambling case that some countries have is interesting. My guess is that companies may just go away from loot boxes and instead just have a normal shop where you can buy the individual pieces you want. Of course those pieces would likely be quite expensive to offset the money sink of RNG.

editing due to potential credibility issues.

The current predictions on reddit (possibly credible sources) are:
1-they go with a purely cosmetic micro transaction system
2-They go with a bundle package of star cards + cosmetics that you buy directly (ie: no gambling)
3-Some kind of purchaseable boost package like double xp is almost certain going to be in.

I'd buy the game if it's the first option of cosmetic only microtransactions. I think this is what the community always wanted. Hopefully we can get an official announcement soon.

                              Very true.

We won the battle but the war isn't over yet. Dice is trying to figure out a way to fund the DLC content and I don't think they'll introduce a season pass nor do I think Disney will approve outlandish cosmetic items, however cool it is.

It will definitely be watered down either by the grind with in game progression not being as exhaustive or more restrictions on what can be bought via loot crates but....

Yeah, it'll be back. Dice's message was crafty worded.

During the AMA cosmetics were actually brought up, and it was implied that DICE was allowed a good bit of leeway for cosmetic customization.

However, I do agree that the response was worded craftily.
