I think im "that sucker"......i dont play more than 3-4 hours a week...maybe 1-3......as a 46 yr old Star Wars gamer this will at least give me a chance to stay on par or keep it somewhat competitive with the Professionals i suppose. Sorry

I'll never ever put a dime into lootcrates with real money. I never do it for the ultimate team packs for sports games either. I just play to have fun & enjoyment. Leaderboards, trophies, acheivements etc. I have no interest in. It's just a game nothing important.Last edited by Stormyhog; 10-12-2017, 11:10 AM."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
You don't unlock anything, you have to get everything through the loot crates. You can buy loot crates with points earned during gameplay but it will take forever to get the top cards. Watch the Angry Joe video above, he talks about the time it will take to get upgrades.Comment

I would never and have never bought a mut(madden) or hut(NHL) pack as I only do offline franchise in sports games. I would also never buy loot crates. Hopefully there's enough social media people talking about this that EA somehow changes it, but they probably won't.Last edited by CubFan23; 10-12-2017, 11:35 AM.Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
I will say this. If enough people are buying it that there are always a bunch of people that are dominating games and regular people who don't buy the packs can't even compete or earn points fast enough to get heroes, etc., they will have the same issue they had with the last one.
People will stop playing.
Me personally, I won't buy the packs with cash. If I start joining games and am constantly getting picked off from snipers or just being constantly dominated it won't be much fun. I sucked a the first game but still had some nights I felt like I was on point and could compete but my biggest issues is I could never get heroes. Playing the BETA while I like the the changes in general I still couldn't earn enough points to get heroes and since each game reset your battle points i didn't get to play a hero once the entire Beta.
At the very least I already pre-ordered and am keeping mine because I am looking forward to the Single Player and like the multiplayer. If there was a way they could match up people based on there level it might not be so bad but it seems that it's just a first come -first served throw everyone into the first match they can be put in.
Anyway, hopefully it is not pointless to play and I won't be getting killed in seconds every match.Comment

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
The entire progression system is tied to these star cards. For instance, say you really want to play as an officer class and you spend your first 20 hours all on that class. According to players from the beta it was entirely possible to be level 3 on the class you want to play and level 8 on some other class you had not touched.
Various weapons and their upgrades are tied to these star cards as well. I'm not sure if this is the case with all of the non starter weapons, but in order to get some new blaster that you really want you are tied to the luck of the draw as you will need to land that card.
Skill upgrades are also in the same boat as the above. Not only are you unable to map out the type of character you want (since weapons, skills and upgrades are all RNG reliant) but some of the powerups were potentially game breaking at max level.
To your second question, there are a few reasons why I would say that it would ruin the enjoyment. First and foremost, I would argue that any game/competition we insert ourselves in mean nothing. The only tangible thing to receive in any kind of a game (including sports) is if it is your profession. For the average person playing call of duty or a game of pick up basketball the only thing you're playing for is the thrill of competition and enjoying the features of that game.
If my goal is competition then I'm stuck with a progression system that will artificially boost or hinder me making it an uneven playing field. Then there is even the chance that I won't be able to enjoy it by playing the way I want because all of my star cards are for a class or weapons I don't want to use.
Apparently the issue with the system is much worse with the recent beta than it was previously. Many early beta users had reported that the upgrades were very minor and that you advanced levels very quickly.
Imo the only for of acceptable loot box is how games like overwatch or Dota do it. No actual game content just cosmetic.

To your first question. This in the recent beta confirmed the fears that many had when the star card system was first announced.

I think over all for me personally I'd rather all future DLC (maps, modes, etc) were free for entire community and they try and make money in ways like you described. I guess I'll have to wait and see how it really effects everything as the game progresses after release.
How much do these things cost anyway?

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
It's very concerning. Hopefully the make some changes before the game is released (unlikely imo given the proximity to the release date).
1,100 credits was the cost of a loot crate in beta from what I saw. I haven't seen any official announcement as to the real dollar cost of a crate or credits, but I'm guessing it will be competitive to other games with loot box systems (as a point of reference, a single loot box in Overwatch costs $1.99). But that's just a guess.Comment

For some the system isn't an issue, but for me this game is a hard pass until players have control over their own progression.

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
I did like the gameplay fundamentally, but like most of you, I have a real issue with the depth and pay-to-win aspects of the game. I'm not going to buy it unless the method turns out less frustrating, though I don't much expect in the way of significant changes. People will still buy it and feed the system.
I also realize, as gamers, we're somewhat stuck between a rock and a hard place. We prefer the extra content be free, but companies aren't willing to provide these maps without us paying for them (either directly or indirectly). Maybe no extra maps? Maybe paid upgrades consist of aesthetics only?
It's been a long while since AAA games were fully inclusive at $60. That's just no the model anymore, but for MP-based PVP games, I feel like that's the only real alternative.Comment

Re: Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS4, Xbox One & PC)
I'm still getting the game through trade-ins but I fully understand why people would pass on it. Even though Dice tried to ease people's fears I can't see them changing the direction they've gone fully. The last thing the game needed was negativity since the last game disappointed alot with it's lack of depth."If you don't have anything good to say, say it often"- Ed the sockComment
