Re: any World of Warcraft nerds out there?
Well, I went to a Turkey day dinner and Mgo was level 7.
I come back and he's level 12.
I don't think he moved all day lol. He did tell me that CoH was fun to group in, but no game has sucked him in like WoW has. First it's "have to get out of the starter area", then it's "have to get a good bow", then it's "have to get a pet", then it's "have to upgrade my pet"...suddenly it's 3am.
The game is a major, major addiction. They threw away a lot of the rules for MMO's to make them pure fun. For instance: Death. In every game out there, death has some serious consequences. In WoW, if you go back and find your corpse, nothing. You can revive (when you die you're a ghost...unable to attack or interact, etc) at the cemetary with this Angel character, and THEN you accumulate xp debt. It's your choice. Track down your corpse (with a handy waypoint arrow on your minimap pointing the way), or xp debt.Comment

I'm liking it so far, and we'll see over time if it gets to be a grind at all...that's kind of my problem with CoH right now, it's tougher for me to find the motivation to just grind through the late 20'sNintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Overall I think the game is great coming from DAOC. It throws a lot of things that bugged MMOs in the past out of the water.
THe map and waypoiint guides were both needed. Every DAOC player cried for years to get a map in. The combat seems nice, Pallys have some nice heals plus a bunch of buffs. The combat to me seems more realstic almost of what you would see in movies. The way you parry, to the way to dodge, and duck. Seems like I'm watching LOTR all over again :P
Crafting in WoW is good, but TCrouch got it right. The best crafting system though I've seen was in DAOC. I don't like it that I have to go hunt for my items (Linen Cloth is a big deal in the game...I find so much of it and I sell it for super high prices), which in DAOC all the items where avilable to merchants next to the crafting masters. WoW has that a little bit, but not completly.
So to speak about the graphics. Me personally I think the graphics are goreous. Some people say they look too cartoony, to me who cares. The animations are awesome. Casting spells look really nice. The graphics don't just have to do with the player characters, but the monsters look really good too as does the enviromental background. Before the sun sets, look at the sun and you will see it going down. Also nice bright lens flares from spells (Kind of reminds me of SoA for DC).
Overall I'm very happy with WoW. The community is huge, the development crew are much better then SoE (trust me SoE is known for its lack of customer service), where I used to play EQ and Planetside both with crummy customer service.
We don't know how well WoW will do in the long run, but I have a feeling its going to own every MMO out on the market in due time. 250,000 sold in one day tells me a lot on how big WoW really is.Michael Riga - OS's unoffical MacAddict
