    Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Hated every assassins creed game I've played, lol. I never played origins though.

I'm really liking this game, I've already played it way more than every other assassin creed game I've played combined.

It's good fun. A review I watched said the girl had better voice acting, so I picked her. I'm happy I did.

      Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

First let me get my specs out of the way I7 5820K @4.5ghz, GTX 1080SC, 48GB of RAM

Now with that out of the way, this game taxes my super clocked GTX 1080 hard on Ultra High. This is the first game in years to do this. Even in 2K I can only get low 50s on Ultra high. 4K looking at upper 20s on ultra high. It is weird considering looking at the map, the map is smaller then Origns. The world is no where near as populated as Origins either.

Graphically the game don't look as good as Origins to me. Not saying it looks bad, it just don't have that same pop like Origins had. Origns was breath taking. This game looks more like, okay. Make no mistake about it, this game is a RPG. A whole lot of grinding is required. Stuff is so expensive. No where near as easy to come by money like it was in Origins. Like Origins the side quests are pretty stupid. Thankfully so far you don't have to go super far to do them. All the ones I have done been rescue my brother, find this object for me.

I am a level 7. Just made it to the second region. For those who loved Black Flag, sailing appears to play a huge role in this game. Had a big ship battle already and second ship battle total so far. You can upgrade your ship, recruit people to your crew, romance people in the game. Upgrading your ship is CRAZY EXPENSIVE. So yeah be prepared to spend majority of your time trying to earn money for weapons, armor and your ship. Recruiting cost money too.

Still can't believe how freaking expensive everything is in this game. Even on the island you start on, everything cost a ton. Game feels more like Dragon Age Inquisition to me then an Assassin's Creed game. Combat is straight forward. Sparta kick, stab and shield grab everybody. The ability tree is a grind too. So far you only seem to get 1 ability point at a time and takes a bit just to get that. The ability trees are a tad bit smaller then they were in Origins too.

This game will last a while simply from having to grind extremely hard to earn money. That grind kills the flow of the game. You do missions, side quests, want to move on, but can't because all your gear is weak and you STILL DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY to upgrade your weapons, armor or ship. So you grind and grind and grind. Looking for pirates and bandits to kill and rob. Sure you can steal from civilians too but that puts a bounty on your head for that region.

Bounty hunters are no joke either. If your weapon and armor not on the same level as them, don't bother. You will die. Far as the story ? So far playing out like the 300 movie series. That is the entire vibe I am getting.

Odyssey pretty much emulates Origins. Odyssey makes some good changes tho, more exploration, more RPG like, etc....but both are very similar, and both are gorgeous to look at. Ubisoft has been killing it with their game worlds these last two installments.
I should've been more clear. I never gave Origins a chance, really. Right about the time I played it, I was busy with other stuff and never really took the time to invest in it properly. So it wasn't the game's fault, but mine. I'll probably pick it up again eventually.

Come October 26th, even Odyssey will be shelved for the foreseeable future. I may get Origins on sales after Christmas. I've been told by multiple friends to give it a serious play, that it's one of the best.

          Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Up to a level 11 now. Couple plot twists happened I didn't see coming. On my 3rd region now. Discovered this game has nation building in a way. Each region is controlled by a person. It is your job to go around that region and weaken their hold on that region. When it is weak enough, you can take on the overlord. Grant it you take on the person when ever you find them, however they are HEAVILY fortified and guarded.

You have to spend time destroying their supplies, stealing their money, etc to make their hold weaker. Once you do that and kill the overlord for that region, it kicks off a big battle for control of the region. That is pretty cool. Basically your side vs their side in a brawl. Who ever kills the most men and depletes the rival army strength bar wins. Back to grinding to earn money.

            Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Don't let all the click bait articles online fool you. The grinding in ACO isn't bad at all unless of course, you have no interest in side quests and activities which in this case, I wouldn't recommend playing ANY RPG simply because that's what they are. Been playing RPG's since SNES and people constantly complain about stuff that's simply non-existent. If anything, it's more about those people sucking to be perfectly honest than the game itself. It would be like me complaining about the respawning enemies in Nioh/SoulsBorne games when that's what those games are and I just need to get better at them. When the person from Polygon says that he only went up 2 levels in 6 hours, I know that he simply doesn't know how to play the game or any RPG for that matter.

35 hours in, im level 21 so im averaging a level every 90 minutes or so which would give me an average of 4 levels in 6 hours. Could easily be an higher average if I didn't explore the world mostly on foot.

Could also look up JorRaptor videos on youtube as he gives a lot of good info including doing side quests that have XP as a reward but it's color coded so purple is epic and gold is legendary so doing these side quests will give you a lot more XP than common (gray) and rare (blue).

One side quest gave me 8000XP. I couldn't believe that it was that high. As usual, the complaining about Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed is an every game thing to where it's just enough now. So many people on other forums complain yet they aren't even playing the game nor are they going to. It's ridiculous especially when I know that it's bullcrap since you know, im actually playing the game.

              Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I can see both sides of why a person would like this game and why a person would be turn off by this game. Historically Assassin's Creed series was never a RPG. It was an adventure stealth espionage game. You weren't forced to do side quests. The whole point of the series was to remain hidden, do stealth kills, hide the bodies, etc.

So if you were a person been playing the series since the 1st game and every game after, you play Odyssey you will be thrown off by how drastically different the game is from the rest of the series. This game is all action RPG. If you are an RPG lover and don't mind being forced to do side quests, you would love this game.

This, EXACTLY! I have felt this way since Origins. I tried to explain it to a friend. I have played every Assassins Creed game since the beginning and most I have played several times.

I really like the new games, but they don't feel like Assassins Creed games. I like them, I think they are a lot of fun. They are just very different if you are a fan of the series.

I am looking forward to playing Odyssey but I look at these as more of a period RPG game than an Assassins Creed title.

                  Assassin's Creed Odyssey

7.5 hours in and I’ve just completed Episode/Chapter 1 and what a twist that has come up. Cleared the first island 100% and I’m enjoying this one even more than Origins.

It will take me months to complete due to the way I play games coupled with my backlog of games but I can tell this is going to be a gem.

Anyone who needs a eguide code just let me know. Got it with the CE Strategy Guide and its free to a good OS home.

                      Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I spent 6 hours going from a rank 11 to a rank 14. The grind is real. Killed 3 bounty hunters during that time span. Spent my time hunting bounty hunters, wild animals, attacking forts, doing a lot of side quests, couple main story missions. There is no other way to put it, the main story line is bad. The side quests story lines are way better.

Discovered you can sleep with both men and women in this game. The weather changes too often in the is game for my liking. At times in a span of 20 seconds it will go from sunny to raining to sunny again. Some times the day and night cycle happens pretty quick too. Level design is kind of all over the place. At times you will play different missions in the same cave layout.

Combat is pretty basic and straight forward. Dodge, attack, dodge, shield grab, attack, dodge, sparta kick. Rinse and repeat. You can parry too if you like. There are stealth kills in the game. However they are so violent and long winded it is best to make sure nobody is nearby. It is always the same animation too. The long winded stealth kill at times have gotten me seen by other guards. You do have the choice to knock them out too though, which is quicker.

Once you get to level 12, you have more flexibility to what you can do and where you can go. When I hit that level I started doing contracts and hunting bounty hunters. Also was able to hunt better wild life which gave more pelts. I wish there was a faster way to get wood. Wood is a choir being you don't come across it a lot and when you do you get so few. That is one thing I miss about Origins, the ability to rob carts full of gold, wood and other materials where you could score 200 or more at a time.

                      Now for some pictures:

You lost me once you said the story is bad. It's the best since Rogue and will end up being a top 3 story in the franchise, easily. Way better than I was expecting especially after the final few missions of Origins was rushed and half-assed.

It simply sounds like you're not enjoying or liking the game at all and simply prefer the old AC games which if that's the case, why continue playing the game when you're not having any fun?

He wrote six paragraphs and all six are completely negative. There's not a single positive in the entire post. ACO is different than past games. AC needed to evolve and become something different.

I'm not belittling his opinion or anything like that. Based on those six paragraphs, it comes across like ACO is nothing but negatives for him and that he's simply not enjoying the game at all.
